I have no air cond, and my 360 runs for days at a time to download and play.. yet I haven't (knock on wood) over heated before yet. hmmm...

Same here except I have Air Con and a ceiling fan. On average my box is on for about 7 hours a day (maybe even more I think). For the past few days I've been playing Prey and Oblivion non-stop for about 10 - 12 hours and the only thing that has happened is the box froze twice (once because I duped too many items at once in Oblivion laugh.gif)

I suspended my power brick on a shoe box just in case, but even after about 7 hours of play it doesn't feel very hot. Warm but not hot. Same with the back of the 360. Warm but not hot. But now that I read about all these overheating stories I think a 20 minute break every few hours would be good

When did I buy my 360? I ordered it from boss Djinn in Bulk v2 which was sometime around April 23rd the deadline. Then he kept it and left it to rot at his house until May 25th laugh.gif

I've got my Red Lights story now: I'm in Jakarta right now and today the power went out. So we had to use a diesel generator thing to generate power. With the generator, voltages aren't stable, so it would be bad for my 360. So I looked around the house and found a voltage stabiliser. So I grabbed it, and plugged my TV and 360 into it. Grabbed the controller and powered up the 360 and continued to play Kameo.

After 15 minutes of getting my arse kicked in the Snow Temple level, I heard a snapping sound coming from the stabiliser. I looked, nothing seemed wrong. Then the screen went black. Looked at my 360 and I saw the 3 Red Quadrants of Doom! I quickly dashed and hit the power button and unplugged everything. The 360 wasn't really hot, nor was the power brick. Weird. Overheating in 15 minutes?

After 5 minutes, I plugged everything back in turned on my 360 again to see if everything is OK. Fortunately it booted with no problems. Then I quickly unplugged everything again.

It seems highly unlikely that my 360 would just overheat in 15 minutes. I'm sure it has something to do with the voltages and voltage stabiliser. After Google-ing, it seems just like a minor hardware error. Most likely something to do with the voltages. Hopefully it's not fried

Well the power went back on and everything is fine now. The voltage instability was definitely the cause of the problem. So watch your voltages everyone

my message was meant for "yhsiau" i dont think you are involve here?
Please read carefully it was my advice to "yhsiau"..
busybodies arent we all..  laugh.gif

Hmm... yeah I am quite a busybody. I guess it's a problem I have since birth.

So you're advising yhsiau, good for you, but maybe you should stop and think first before you post something that could potentially offend someone:
QUOTE(babyakuma)
Throw it back at djinns.. ask him to fix it properly..

Clearly I'm not the only person who thinks this is a bit harsh. When confronted, you retaliate:
QUOTE(babyakuma)
nope not being harsh at all.. just thinking the poor fella sent it for repair and it came back with the same problem.. i dont like ppl who didnt test things properly.. and this takes customers for a ride.. a very long ride...

Use some common sense dude. Haven't you ever had something repaired, given back to you, then the problem popped up again? As michael9413 said, problematic electronics are part of our everyday lives. You can't simply send something for repairs and expect it to be fully repaired 100% no more problems guaranteed.

And you can't blame Djinn. Even if it was his fault, we are all human. And humans make mistakes. So before indirectly insulting someone for being 'lazy' and 'not testing things properly', think.

time out, time out.

3RoD is a very stressful experience for everybody, even those with working sets are worried abt it. no point fighting among ourselves.

babyakuma, i see from ur sig ur a game machine "modder" urself, if u have any technical advise or knowledge can extend to this community, pls do so.

i'm still wondering if buying a cheap UPS or power/voltage regulator will help. of all the 3RoD cases here, the ones involving syuji, jaylike7 and chuah_ph is the most worrying cos they were so new - impossible that they were overheated and spoilt their solders within few weeks  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Voltage regulator? Reminds me of my 3RoD experience:

I was on holiday at my grandparent's house. Bought my 360 along. Plugged it into a voltage regulator, and proceeded to play Kameo. After about 5 minutes, the screen blacked out. The voltage regulator made a 'pop' sound. I looked at my 360, and there it was. 3 out of 4 quadrants flashing red. I jumped out of my seat, hit the power button and quickly unplugged everything...

Half an hour later, I tried again, this time without the voltage regulator - nothing happened. All went flawlessly.

That was my first 3RoD experience. I had a second, but I can't remember how it happened tongue.gif

Just curious. Can i manually remove the dvd-drive and replace it with another 360 dvd-drive? FYI both drive are orginal from a 360. I am thinking of getting spare parts from 3ROD victims and maybe i can solve my "Your Disc is Unreadable" problem.

Btw, i am using a 1st batch Japanese console so my dvd-drive is a Hitachi drive. Can i change it with a Samsung one?

I would suggest try another Dead Rising disc before jumping straight to hacking apart your DVD Drive laugh.gif
