Greeting to all Nikon users here, this is my 1st post in this section. biggrin.gif

Am going to revive my gears that has been sleep long ago in the dry box and I got a question here. Believe is a repeated question but due to the limited and throat cutting camera shop around my area, there's no where I could try before buy. sweat.gif So I wish I can get advise from Nikon fella here.

After 3 years of shooting, I found my shooting range is around 50mm and mostly street shot (I like to travel and love capture those natural action around the street corner) and sometimes, random church event that usually happens in indoor.

My question is, is that really worth to fork out the extra 500 for VC or I just go along with non VC and pair with my flash gun? (Just wish to keep the flash usage on the minimal. biggrin.gif)

My current gears are: D90, 50mm F1.8, 18-200mm VR2 & SB800.

Hope there's useful advises from user that having the same gear as me. icon_rolleyes.gif

Ops. My bad for didn't state the lens that I'm going after. And yes, I mean Tamron 17-50. Just that I'm not sure that do I really need the VC function or not as the price diff is about 400-500 MYR for a brand new lens.

Up to you. I am using non-vc. Personally, I felt non-vc a bit sharper than vc.
Try to get 2nd one as new one a bit expensive. Saw few forumers are selling non-vc and vc as well. Condition looks new too.

So basically both doesnt make any different in term of using it on a DX frame beside the IQ are sharper right? Probably will go with non VC as since the price are cheaper. blush.gif

And btw, agreed with you on the weight matter on DSLR. Sometime the weight really kills the fun when travel around. Bulky!

Can say so. But I just tried VC for one time in short period. Can't really give u all the accurate info. I saw 2nd VC is selling rm800 and non-vc rm500-600. price so low now. I bought it new at rm999.  cry.gif

Yeah. That is why I might get a mirrorless in future. If I have the budget.  laugh.gif

laugh.gif Sadly no budget now, so still going with my buddy D90.

Checked in shashinki, like Msia set @ RM998 and import set @ RM851 for bot non-vc. Time to hunt in garage sales!

Haha. Same bro. I am D90 user also.  brows.gif

Slowly find if you are not urgent to get it.  laugh.gif

D90 + 17-50. Just a normal photo compared to all the sifus at here.  yawn.gif

That's a very good shot! Love the lighting! biggrin.gif

I think D90 still suffice for my needs even tho the price for a used D7k is very tempting. Better save up for something more important! laugh.gif

Maybe u can play around with the mirrorless first only decide which one suits u. Phone camera is nice. But some factors phone camera can't do. RAW, manual settings etc. and the feel of holding camera and phone are different too.  laugh.gif

One thing I like about the weight on DSLR is, it tend to help stabilize our hand especially when on handheld. Although not really much, but still it does help. Hehe.

I am using d90 with the tamron 17-50 with vc. I would prefer a vc than no vc because it can let u shoot at lower shutter speed without raising the iso. D90 iso control is not very good that is y i seldom go more than iso800. With flash also lower speed also help to increase the ambient light of ur pic. That few stops is very crucial if lighting is not enough.

VC or Non-VC? Haha! After several deep consideration, I think I wanna change my vote now. biggrin.gif Sharpness still can be fine tune via pp, but like you say, that few stops under low light is crucial! flex.gif

Anyways, any idea how much a secondhand 18-200mmVR2 worth? Not much ppl letting go at garage sales tho. But I bet should be around 1.3k? or Maybe more?

Sharing one my fine shot with D90 and 18-200mm. biggrin.gif Photo taken at Melbourne Zoo @ 2012, no flash just natural lighting from the cage itself. Just convert from RAW to jpeg via DxO + turn to B&W via lightroom.

Hello Nikon's sifu! I have a question ya, regards on flash and 3rd party lens and I hope I can get some answer from user here.

I used to have 18-200mm and this lens works well with my SB800 where I just focus and press shutter then viola flash fired and shutter clicks.

But it seems to have a 1-2s delay on flash firing + shutter click when I switch the lens to Tamron 17-50m. means that after focus done, and shutter button pressed, it will took 1-2s before a photo is taken. It's something normal for pairing 3rd party lens + original nikon flash gun? hmm.gif hmm.gif
