hey guys.. wan to ask...
what decent lcd panel's colors are very close to mac lcd?
*
Dell IPS monitor are pretty good, quite close to MBP retina or 27'' iMac screens.
They got pretty similar results too (sRGB, Adobe RGB range) when I calibrate them with spyder.

Regardless, it's best to calibrate all screens even if they're Mac LCD.

I'm a D3200 user and I get to play around D3300.

Let me share my price of my D3200, i got mine at a huge discounted price @Rm1799 around Aug 2013 along with 3 8gb c10 SD, 1 standard bag and 3 years warranty(Nikon 1, fotokem 2) & a free phone! Lucky Draw  rclxms.gif
Anyway, some may say aiya, fotokem warranty no use one la... but for me, nikon store Rm2198 for D3300 w/ 3 years warranty is totally worth it. just for 1 reason, peace of mind. At least I got covered for any issue within the 3 years. All electronics most important is warranty because there is a failure rate~(touch wood).. but peace of mind matters to me la.

NEVER GET CHEATED BY THE FREE TRIPOD! Those are crap! exchange for a SD card or whatever filter or strap or stuffs.. save some budget to get a REAL tripod(Rm300 ish for entry).. Trust me, experience first hand my DSLR almost crash to the solid ground. rclxub.gif

I used to think to buy a cool ass bag for my camera to carry around and snap photo like a pro.. as advertised in Youtube. But after 8 months owning a DSLR.. meh, unless I'm super got feel today, I won't be carry that heavy dslr. For beginner without much gear, just buy a camera insert and throw into any bagpack of yours. I'm using Crumpler Haven L for my 3 lens, body, 4 memory cards, cleaning kit & charger and cable. So for any shooting now or travel, I just grab the whole thing and throw inside my bag and off to go. http://www.crumpler.com/us/haven-l

Like any sifu here will said, camera brand doesn't matter.. Well it does matter for lens choice and photo quality and price. but you won't go wrong with any brand.. just you want to be either the hipster Nikon or Pop-culture Canon or tech Sony kind of guy.. haha

D3300 is good enough for family photo, pets and such..

Oh ya, one thing good about Nikon is the interface is good  nod.gif .. for beginner, it is super friendly to get to know about exposure, shutter speed, aperture and stuffs ~

I got the crumpler haven(m) too. Makes it really convenient for me to just bring along any bag. Camera bags should be functional and inconspicuous.

Recently got a mindshift panorama 180 backpack. Really convenient, especially for travel photography. Quick access to your camera while having both straps on.

Thank you for sharing your experience. notworthy.gif

After much consideration, I might go for the J-One offer instead of Nikon KLCC and I can use the extra money to buy other stuff. (Btw, what other stuff should I buy besides the D3300 kit? Is lens hood necessary for such a small lens? Maybe cleaning kit? But I never had any experience in cleaning a dslr using cleaning kit. Please advise.)

I'll see how this goes, if this entry level dslr breaks down within 3 years, then I'll take this as a lesson and buy the extra warranty when I upgrade to a higher level dslr. Btw, is RM1920 offered by J-One for D3300 with 1 year warranty, screen protector, sd card and Nikon bag a good deal? From what I can see, many formers recommend J-One because of their good service and reasonable price.

Isn't D3200 one of the lightest dslr in the market now? I haven't tried out the D3300 but I heard it's even lighter than D3200. The crumpler insert you mentioned looks sexy but quite costly...  sweat.gif

Don't need to get a lens hood for the kit lens.
I would avoid UV filter too.

Get a blower for cleaning. Use those micro fiber cloth provided by spectacle shops to clean your lens, they're abundant and not expensive.
I don't trust the cleaning solution provided by the cleaning kit. Lenspen will lose it's effectiveness after using it a number of times.

For the blower, are you referring to Giottos Air Blaster? They come in 3 sizes, small, medium and large. Which size is more preferable? Please advise.

I might get the LensPen NLP-1. Any user here has experience with it? What other accessories should I be looking for?
*
For air blower, it doesn't matter which brand you get.
For size, I'll just pick some regular middle sized one.
Better ones has some air filter near the intake.

I've the LensPen. It's a good emergency solution to quickly clean the smudge, but it's not something I would use to clean all the time (due to the limited use).
There's no need to fret so much on "cleaning accessories" with your first camera/lens.

To be honest, just a microfiber cloth would do the trick.

Anyone here with experience with the Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AIS ?
It's a manual lens that's even more expensive than it's autofocus counterpart hmmm.

Planning to de-click the aperture stop and use it for video.

How's the
1. Sharpness (middle, corner, near, far)?
2. Distortion ?
3. Chromatic aberration ?

I've seen several reviews but they're either it's super awesome or not as good as current UWA lens.

Need advise.

If I were to use Nikon D750 and would like to retain my Canon flash - what's the best way to trigger them?

If not, does anyone of you know which brand of 3rd party flash (eg Phottix, Nissin, Metz) can response to Nikon CLS?
*
I'm using phottix strato 2 to trigger Nikon/canon flash from Nikon/canon dslr.

Just need to mix and match the trigger/transmitter type. No TTL though.

Good thing about phottix is that most of their triggers are compatible with one another regardless of model.

EG: their strato lineup is conpatible with their Odin line up.

CONFESSIONS OF 3 PHOTOGRAPHY TEACHERS
Sun 26 Oct, 11am
Grd Flr, The School, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

Why are photography courses in Malaysia mostly taught as part of design courses? Can photography be regarded as an artform in its own right, with the ability to shape the way we look, think and live, if it is always a servant to other artforms? Can photography teachers inspire students to think of photography beyond the limits of the courses by which they are bound? Come join this frank discussion by three of Malaysia's most internationally well known photographers who also happen to teach.

Che' Ahmad Azhar is a visual communication and photography lecturer at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, for 16 years. His work has been featured on the Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA) and LENS Blog The New York Times. Currently, he is working on a personal project entitled ‘Walk of Life’ – a visual documentation on the street life of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. http://www.cheahmadazhar.com/

Eiffel Chong is a lecturer at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. He graduated with an MA in International Contemporary Art and Design Practice from the University of East London and a BA (Hons) in Photography from London College of Printing. Chong is also mentor for the Goethe Institut Malaysia/Nikon Shooting Stars programme and Exposure+ Workshop. Eiffel Chong’s work considers abstract concepts of life and death through the banal details, silent landscapes and curious obsessions he observes from daily life. http://www.eiffelchong.com/

Minstrel Kuik is currently teaching Photo Essay at New Era College in Kajang. She has a bachelor degree in painting from Taiwan and a master degree in photography from France. As a social actor, Kuik continues to experience tension coming from different social bounds, identities and interests. Photography serves as the medium for her to explore social distances and attachments for its documentary and narrative quality. In 2013, she was the winner of the International Photographer Award at Higashikawa Photo Festival, Japan. http://minstrelkuik.blogspot.com/
