So I did another research on the net and found out that the extra 2 years warranty is worth around RM300 in US...
http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/...-(2-Years).html

I will probably be buying my first dslr, D3300 at Nikon Store KLCC. Anything to watch out for when buying? Btw, Think Tank bag really looks very nice and pro and look more like a business bag than a camera bag compared to other camera brands.  rclxm9.gif
*
If you have already set your eyes on the deal from KLCC, then just go for it nod.gif

Skills and your photos will decide whether you are pro or not, not your bag and gears laugh.gif
Most people started off very enthusiastically, buying expensive and the most recent stuffs, then after a few months they lose interest and shelf everything, which is sad sad.gif
Unless if you are very sure you are interested, don't spend too much on your 1st DSLR and accessories icon_rolleyes.gif

Are you sure you're sacrificing just ergonomics/ruggedness? What about quality?

*
Quality is definitely lower laugh.gif But surely a worthy tradeoff haha~ Sacrifice quality of IQ but increase quality of trips/ outings haha laugh.gif

oh! sorry. forgot to mention budget. i think would be around 2K i guess
i need something for a beginner. not something high end
it doesn't even need to be the latest model
u know it's like get something easy to use and all
this is to keep the interest going. then later on only trade in the old unit and go for something higher end
*
Can consider a Nikon D3200 or Nikon D5200 icon_rolleyes.gif
Both are beginner friendly~
Can just stick to the normal kitlens (18-55mm) OR 18-105mm/18-140mm if you have extra to spare~

Yes, I would agree to trade off quality for some mobility if it was cheap but since a new system will cost you another price of a D800, I don't see the logic.  sweat.gif
*
Got so expensive meh? haha laugh.gif
Anyways, I guess different people have different priorities icon_rolleyes.gif

I guess it depends on what you're buying but generally how much would a reasonable Fuji system cost?
*
The XM-1 is around RM2k something I think? XE-2 around RM3.8k, XT1 around RM4.8k, all with kitlens and using the same X-Trans sensor hmm.gif
RM3.9k for a F1.2 lens too, pretty uncommon haha drool.gif

*Sorry for off topic tongue.gif

QUOTE(sway @ Apr 10 2014, 04:51 PM)
good day again. been doing some reading since this morning in between job interval
so something caught my interest. mirrorless and dslr.
i've read about both of it and the comparison
mirrorless is light in weight compared to dslr
then the preview part, mirrorless cannot preview unless u take a pic of it.
the rest of the competition is more or less the same. for example, image quality, stabilization, video quality.
so i was hoping someone can help guide me on this about whether to get a dslr or mirrorless and pros and cons of it
*
Nikon's mirrorless systems are not that good when compared to competitors hmm.gif
So if you want to stick to Nikon, DSLRs are still the better pick laugh.gif

Mirrorless cameras, as the name suggest, lacks the mirror that allows you to see what you will be photographing through the lens- they lack the optical viewfinder, and thanks to that, they can be designed to be much smaller and more portable nod.gif
Of course, smaller = more portable but less ergonomic

So it depends on what you really want hmm.gif most mirrorless systems nowadays are quite affordable, and uses similar sensors (go for the ones with APS-C and not m43) as those in DSLRs.

If portability is important to you - mirrorless
If ergnomics (dials and button layouts) - DSLR

just my 2 cents~

not really true tongue.gif some higher end mirrorless have quite many custom buttons that allow users to pick a specific function for them. thus it will offer more direct access compared to dslr.

the main advantages of dslr I can see compared to mirrorless is the phase detection, weather sealing/ ruggedness and also the choices of lenses (not really matter if you just shoot specific thing, not everyone buy every single lenses of a system anyways).

Digitalmall?
There are a couple of large shops down there where you at least get to try the bags out and see whether they suit you or not icon_rolleyes.gif
After that, if you want, can buy online haha tongue.gif tongue.gif

If not the photo should also still be fine right even though it has been cropped?
*
I suppose as long as the ratio of the photo remains the same, it won't feel that awkward? hmm.gif
I used to crop without fixing the aspect ratio and in the end the photos turn out too squarish haha, very obviously cropped and looked very weird laugh.gif

There are some vertical shorts, I cropped off the sides way too much, the photos look so skinny. Some I cropped neither squarish or rectangular XD.

I guess I have learn how to properly frame the photo rather than depend too much on crop @@''
*
As suggested previously, you just need to fix the aspect ratio when you are crop and you'll be fine thumbup.gif
For vertical shots, even if you crop, it will still turn out "as shot" nod.gif

You need to teach him how to crop la  tongue.gif
*
My bad, my bad haha, press the red circle to lock/unlock aspect ratio. Please see the photo below laugh.gif
You will be "constraint" abit in your cropping, but in the end you will still be able to produce a same photo size (ratio) as shot

I think its nicer if taken in landscape, but with you on the side, still showing the same things but much less of the jeans..
But of course its impossible to take a shot like that via selfie, unless if you shoot from great distance and crop alot laugh.gif

Thanks. Somehow I still rather use unconstrained then XD. Just askin, not everything needs to be kept in according to the aspect ratio right?
*
Yeah, in the end its totally up to you- different people have different taste one thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
Based on my little experience in book publishing, sometimes its easier to fit photos into contexts when they are unfixed in terms of aspect ratio laugh.gif
But for normal stuffs like Facebook, Flickr etc., having proper aspect ratio means you won't get that much "black bars" at the sides or tops- nothing much if you are okay with it icon_rolleyes.gif
