hi ivan and alkin,
i believe most of the customer want cheap and show grade bettas. So wonder it is better i just stop the betta focus on other fish so that i won't heard them tell me want cheap cheap fish but must show grade betta.
fyi, in HK they can get show grade fish in 80-120HKD only from thailand somemore. Time will show in Malaysia for the same situation also..and i just sold off my red hm there for 90HKD after the shows. I believe that will be my last show from my own breed line. will direct import the fish if got big competition next time and sell off after the show end.
This is just my 0.002cents own opinion.
Yewlin, you can't compare the price in different country. Hong Kong bettas can sell so cheap is because they getting in bulk from those breeder. And in this case, normally betta breeder will not choosing one by one when that time, and they will ship out their bulk fish so that sometime outsider will get best fish in low price as well. i believe most of the customer want cheap and show grade bettas. So wonder it is better i just stop the betta focus on other fish so that i won't heard them tell me want cheap cheap fish but must show grade betta.

Beside that, using ownbreed fish for competition or buying oversea breeder fish taking part competition was different feelings. As you know if you win the prize using ownbreed fishes, you are more respect by others where it your ownbreed fishes. If you bought and win, some people knew that from which breeder and end up they go buy the breeder fish. Of course buying fishes from oversea breeder is good too where u can use for comp, after comp you can do it as your breeder fish and improve your line. You taking not much competition yet, so i believe one day you will knew what the different on it...And your mindset will totally thinking different.
Added on August 29, 2007, 7:38 amMalaysia fighting fish market is quite low, also that the price of the fighting was not stable enough. Not like goldfish, arowana...
As we knew, although fighting fish in Malaysia already how many years, but people still dun understand about fighting fish. They are lack in education about fighting fish. Few question always in their mind...
1. What is Betta?
2. Fighting fish is for fight until die. Fight for money.
3. Fighting fish selling RM1 each, how come yours selling RM100+? Crazy ar?
When we meet this kind of customer, we should not get angry or chasing him away. We should educate them and provide them the real information, let them know what is betta, what are the species and so on. Best is we can show them in real fish or picture to show them, not using past few years picture la.
Not only this, i think malaysia market price to state at average cost first, not so high unless the quality is perfect. Because some of them would like to try but can't affort it. I believe we sold them in average cost so they can buy the pair and spawn themself and experience it.
Market is everywhere, but you need to get it yourself, not waiting they coming. Even on internet you also can sold some fishes, for sure you need to take the picture of the item you want to sell. That is the best way to sold your fishes quickly. Malaysia is bigger than Singapore, so your customer will be at other state like johor, penang and so on. I think if you want sell your fish, put it on every forum for sales, not just 1 - 2 forum. That not enough, also not everyone will be at same forum here.
