Don't worry, the water in the fishes tank isn't hot, it's actually a lot cooler than the outside. Also, bettas' natural habitat is from a hot climate ie : malaysia. So they are accustomed to this weather anyways. smile.gif One of the reasons why I only keep bettas. They are hardy fish --> Easy maintainance tongue.gif

Yeap! My previous male fish had many "temporary wifes" tongue.gif He breed successfully with all of them, about 5 or 6 of them "wifes" tongue.gif He even cares for the frys til they are 3 weeks old, probably longer if the frys hadn't died due to malnutrition sad.gif Cuz I didn't have enough BBS to feed them so them baby fishes died off after 3 weeks for every successful spawn. Le sigh.

Anyways, I'm going to KL Sentral again next week (on the way to go for some freelance job training  yawn.gif )
So I'll definitely stop by my fav shop there and get at least two males fishes this time. Back-up "husband"  wink.gif
(p.s. I hope they restocked the fishes the day Im going there  flex.gif )

Beautiful yellow colour.. I'm guessing someone dumped their pet betta in the field lol
*
after 3 weeks i think they should be big enough to eat small mosquitoes? just smack a few then throw in for them.

QUOTE(limie @ Jun 16 2008, 07:01 PM)
hm... okok...
i gota check again whether they are aggressive or not...

how to train bette to be stronger?
starve them for a few days?
*
what do you mean by stronger? there are a few methods, i know one of them is to swirl the water so that the fish will swim against the current. try google sure can find wan.

LOL. No way kenji. 3 weeks is still too small to eat anything. Go here for a chart with photos of a betta's growth. Then you'll know what I mean. LOL  nod.gif

NO starving, NONO. Feed the bettas the best food available.. I feed mine frozen bloodworms.. You shd be able to buy a tray of them for rm2.50 at the local fish shop... One cube of bloodworms can easily feed up to 4-5 adult bettas.. My fished love this food lol and won't eat anything else unless its live food like mosquitoes, ants, etc.

Then allow the bettas to flare through a clear separator for a few hours LOL. Oh yeah, also, by feeding bloodworms, you can position the food above the water, so that the betta will jump out to eat the food tongue.gif Bit by bit you can increase the height of the food above the water and yeah, thats a way to "train" the bettas to be stronger physically, if that's what you meant smile.gif
*
good chart there, lol kk i guess mine were about 4-5 weeks when they started eating small mosquitoes.

hey i've just found something interesting:

QUOTE
The first food of the fry varies from person to person, but most of them shared a common thread - the vast majority use hard-boiled egg yolk as a staple, from as early as the first day of feeding. A tiny amount is either mashed into water and fed a few drops at a time, or crumbled directly into the tank twice a day. Fry grow very quickly on this protein-rich diet, and even the smallest fry can swallow the tiny particles of egg yolk that are dissolving in the water.

for that quality...i expect RM1.50...personally think u got ripped off  sweat.gif

BTW, do u know how many % aquarium shops make for each sale of bettas? Approx. 200-300%(min). In the past, i have personally supplied an aquarium shop with low grade crowntails for rm1.50 each....only to find out that he was selling each for RM25. Also found out that aquarium shops purchase veil tails for only 30 sen each.
*
gosh thanks for the info. hmm any idea how to get bettas to breed? my pair doesn't seem to want to breed and i had to separate the female since the male keeps harrassing her.

QUOTE(ynneb25 @ Jun 24 2008, 12:45 PM)
there are a few variations to the way to get bettas to breed. Well, this is (or was) my way. Use 2 see-thru (transparent) containers of different sizes(1 small and 1 big- make sure the smaller container can fit into the big container) Place the female into the small container and the male into the big container(same water level for both containers). Place a half-cut styrofoam cup floating in the big container for male to build the nest. Leave them there for a few days until both of them are ready. Siphon the uneaten/faeces everyday and top-up a lil water. The female will show vertical stripes when she is ready. I normally let her 'fatt hao' abit until she stops running from the male and the male calms down abit. Then i transfer her into the big container. Then, fingers crossed  tongue.gif
*
that's what i'm currently doing, she did have the vertical stripes but still nothing else happen, male still chasing her around. and sometimes i come back to find that she managed to somehow get into the bigger bowl, probably jump over the coke bottle i put in =/ i got lots of water cabbage and the male did build his nest a few times. you think they will still want to mate ah? haha..

The looks of the fishes are ok....I think nothing wrong with them. If it's really sick, it'll CLAMP fins. What you see in those pics are not CLAMP fins symptoms. THey are just not FLARING.

I dont recommend a 100% change of water because it'll mean a 100% in all water parameters(temperature, pH, water hardness etc). Unless you can actually have water supply of about the same parameters as in your fish jar.

I keep my bettas in Nescafe Gold jars. When i do water change, only remove 70%, then replace with new water. Well, of cos there are other guys outthere who would revoke this. It's all up to you. Each of us hass different method smile.gif gd luck
*
hmm i do 100% change, i take the fresh water from my small 'pond'. so i think that should be quite a natural environment for them.

ok...i still dont know where is PGRM...hahaha biggrin.gif
then...i already have 3 female at home now...so,i want to know how to make they together2??di u know what i mean right...can anyone teach me...i'm still learning.. tongue.gif
*
erm we discussed this a few pages back, put the female in a smaller container inside the male's container so that the male can see the female but cannot harm her. then when you see the female got vertical stripes, means she's ready then you can move her into the male's container.

Sometimes, they just DONT click. lol. Try get another male or female. Or try like what i do. put them in the same container (the small ones with plastic blue hard net in the middle)... then fed them good food, then wait n let the female jump over to the male's side herself lol..........
*
my female jump over few times adi.. dunno whether there's gonna be any spark between them or not lol.
