Of course Tobi is not dead. Not that easy one la. U think the author wan to intro him and without showing what jutsu he can made then die liau meh. So i can guranted that Tobi is still alive.

maybe Kishimoto's purpose is to show that even not properly introduced characters can die as well.. to add real-ness to Naruto story
