proper service will involve fully draining the compressor oil, cleaning the cooling coil, fan blower fins, front condenser/radiator (for the air cond), replacing the drier, and finally after all done and installed back, vacuuming (removal air pockets etc) of the air cond system while refilling compressor oil and proper refrigerant (gas) as well

not cheap (minimal also in the 300-500 ish) and time consuming (typically half/full day car at shop, worse on modern cars as some need to remove entire dashboard/front bumper etc), so not everyone does it.
