www.w3schools.com for abit more "advanced" tutorials on web-based stuff like HTML, ASP, PHP etc.

There is also a try-it editor where you can just edit code in your browser and make it run on the same page. However it doesn't teach on all the functions (although it does list them), it also lacks a parametere list for the functions. Overall its a good 2nd reference IMHO.

-update-
http://sqlcourse.com for quick sql courses for newbies.

errr any active forum that gathers every programmers (nearly experts) and can really answer questions very fast ?? like within 1 hour

malaysians dont have many programmers so i didnt get the stuff i wanted in lowyat.
no offence to lowyat forum here

That is depends on what kind of language you are using.
Some forums are dedicated or strong for certain language or for some topic. If you ask unrelated questions. People will ignore you.
It is sometimes depend on your question difficulty level as well. Some forum has low level and some are high. Posting question base on level is very important.

Usually, I will go to newsgroup to search for answers. Last time, I need to use the news reader software to get the messages but with the advent of Google(Cause google has bought over some of the mainstream newsgroup server). By googling alone can get the same results (and better).

http://groups.google.com/

You can get to the topic by selecting the related groups.

like C programming languages. Select COMP.LANG.C which will direct you to the C language newsgroup (web version). Some odd languages like FORTRAN, ADA, Postscript and etc can be found here too.

You can post question to the newsgroup but do not expect to get the reply very fast. Probably a day or so but expect the quality of the answer to be great. Cause there are some Microsoft MVPs around the forum which could give you professional answer. However, it is not guaranteed that your answer will be answered by them.

These are my advice.

After sometimes going too technical and low level, perhaps it's time to move up and see a bigger picture. Though still technical, but from a higher perspective, and definitely would will change your view on programming.

Joel on Software: http://www.joelonsoftware.com (about software business, programming, etc)
Gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com (good postmoterm for game development projects)
Flipcode: http://www.flipcode.com (good tips on C/C++ programming)

Not to mentioned visit Slashdot and Digg for your daily technical meal.

BTW, my company is looking for .NET/Java Developer (good talent are such a hard find nowadays). As long are you feel interested and wanted to take up the challenge, visit: http://siva-my.jobstreet.com/_ads/my/jobs/...t/10/352285.htm

This came out top from the list from google.

C++:

http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

I read the introduction, it says it is suitable for complete noobs who knows nothing of programming (doesn't mean if you know nothing on how to use a computer you can do this).

Warning! For C/C++ coders.

Highly Not recommended book if you've seen it before. C/C++ Complete Reference by Herb Schildt and his websites about C/C++.
You've on the path of destructive c/c++.

Just google bad c/c++ books for a good start.

is there any links for helping/learning to develop a system that related to motion detection?
Like, instead of using mouse, we use our hand/finger as mouse to interact with computer, of course must have a camera for capturing and monitoring..

Aiyoo, that's a tough question bro... Unfortunately nowadays it's not so easy to pick 'the easiest to learn' tutorials.

Perhaps you can read the many forum posts that dealt with the topic of "I'm noob, which language should I pick", then after you actually pick a language, you can (should) browse through the many links given here and see which of the teaching/writing/instructing styles fit you best.

(on-topic)
Here's a(nother) tutorial on Win32 API: http://learnwinapi.wordpress.com/2011/12/

It's a new blog, last checked only 2 posts. Lots of hand-holding involved and fairly detailed explanations on the basics of working with the Microsoft Visual Studio and Win32 API.

'The Art of Assembly Language Programming: http://www.cs.smith.edu/~thiebaut/ArtOfAss...y/artofasm.html ' is down.

Edit: A working one would be http://maven.smith.edu/~thiebaut/ArtOfAssembly/artofasm.html

@Dan Peng

For starters, you can learn Visual Basic.
Visual Basic and Visual Studio is different. Visual Basic is pretty much BASIC languages but Visual Studio offers a wider range of languages. Good luck mate!

Cheers! wink.gif

I would like to add Code Year from Codecademy as an initiative to get people to learn how to code. Currently, they are teaching JavaScript via problem solving. There will be a new problem/exercise for each week.

Pros:
Nicely structured.
Fun projects (Blackjack/FizzBuzz/Cash Register)

Cons:
Every answer must be as what they expect (e.g if they expect you print out "Make Up!", they will not receive "Make up" or "Make up!" as the answer, even though your code is correct)
Learning curve might be steep for first-time coders. (we are in Week 11 now)

Otherwise, if you want to learn how to code, but has 0 experience about it and don't know what to learn, I'd suggest Code Year as a starting point.

When you say "IT field", it's more than just making websites or multimedia stuff or the likes. IT field can also include server and network administrator, and for that, the creativity you need is for solving problems and making things works better.

As a matter of fact, programming is not just limited to IT!

You want to automate something (making a machine run as it should), you got to program it.
You want to make a database of something (for records, automated budget calculation, etc etc), you got to program it.
You want to simulate a theory (especially if you are learning telco), you got to program it.

Hello guys, I'm currently learning VBA and have mastered the basic skills to write some functional programs using VBA. I wish to test and strengthen my VBA programming skill, so I would like to ask if there is any website or ebooks that provide exercises and tutorial questions that actually give us to practise and test my skills?

Check out http://www.codecademy.com/.

Very good website for beginners to learn:
→ JavaScript
→ HTML/CSS
→ PHP
→ Python
→ Ruby
→ APIs

I've tested it before, and found out it was so easy to learn.

Google a little while for Matlab, seems like Matlab have all the basic knowledges u could get from C, so i think Java is good 4 u 2 start.

Keen on exploring mobile development on Android and learn from google people?

Am in midst of doing the Android Developer course at www.udacity.com as there are so many changes to the Android development since Android 3.

I like the course as it expects you to go dig up answers to progress. If cant understand then pay for support.

I don't know how to give advice. Personally, C# is my 4th language, after Pascal, ASM and VB.

FYI, you can try C# Online Compiler: https://dotnetfiddle.net/

Everyone have different interests, learn different things,
For beginner, the tutorial of the product should be enough.
Advanced user may have different requirements.

You may create a new post for what you're looking for.
