seriously, i am hating this appointment of rafa benitez. i dont know how this can be termed moving forward. is he a master tactician? is his game revolutionary? good eye on good players? nope, nope and nope. but the onus is on him to prove me wrong.

on the other hand, i can only hope that his appointment will mean that our young players are regarded highly by him (isco, illara, carvajal, varane) and therefore prevented from leaving.

he is the guy who signed albert riera, mind you.

i dont quite like him as a coach but i certainly prefer him more to mourinho, personality wise.
lets just hope his time here can trump mourinho's and make mou look like an idiot.

Navas has been given chances. But he messed up every single time.

ancelotti - always looked neat and tidy and with him, you can ask the questions but he is always in charge. charm

rafa - u get the feeling he looks like he is a bit clumsy and gives you the hunch that he just came out from the restaurant. i think people will be very neutral about him and the impression is that he could easily be riled up in a press conference

if i were given a chance to criticize any club because of a signing, this one has to be the top of the list this season.

midfield options - real madrid has plenty
an upgrade on existing midfielders - no
at least a world class proven midfield playmaker ala kevin de bryune or a marco reus - no

along with the sacking of ancelotti and vdb, this has to rank as the top 3 of the worst decisions by real madrid ever....

I saw illara games in Real Sociedad. He is a fantastic player but ancelotti midfield system requires players who are capable passer with excellent technical skills, vision being able to participate in attack. Unfortunately he aint the guy, hence he is not used much by Ancelotti which lead to him being low on morale and subsequently drop in performance. He should move to clubs which  intending to use him as a pivot, and I believe he would excel fantastically. It is really sad he could not fulfill his potential in Real, but with a subsequent transfer I wish him all the best. smile.gif

i know i always sing illara's praises, so too isco. i think they are both great players, complements each other very well. just take a look at the u-21 national team.
going by case study, modric vs illara, and why modric starts ahead of illara even though its a midfield berth, more towards defensive mid which is naturally illara's place:

- modric is more versatile and can manoeuvre out from a tight spot easily. while both are great passers, illara is like a xabi alonso with shorter range, modric's agility wins
- real madrid tend to want players with good physique and both illara and modric are not the biggest in the squad. modric wins by virtue of his ability to roam forwards and come back to tackle, as evidenced in many games last season. illara is a protector and rarely ventures forward. evidence of size preference in midfield, look at lucas silva, casemiro, asenssio (how is it spelled?), kroos and probably (kovacic)
- illara, although a good passer, i think is still in the makelele mould. we all know due to the evolution of the game, makelele type of players are slowing phasing out, or has already phased out. illara always snaps and snaps at those players coming into his territory, and unless he is flanked by players like pogba and vidal in midfield, he will be exposed

i always feel wasted should any of these players, who are my favorites in current real squad, are deemed surplus:
isco, illara, carvajal, ramos, marcelo, benzema

How ydo ou judge navas was poor? Imo, he was not given a proper chances to prove himself.. to me.. failure to get ddg not a bad scenario as we have navas. He is good enough to be our shot stopper.. and we save money for not really necessary buy..

i agree. i didnt think navas was poor when he was given the chance to play. i am just stumped at why people say he is poor.
his recent game, if anything, has further suggested that he is a good goalkeeper.

Somehow I feel Benz is the key cog to the offensive fluidity. Correct me if you all have different ideas.

i agree with that assessment but based on past seasons characteristic of benz. he has got good movement.
this season, i cannot comment on anything as i havent watched a single game that real madrid plays.
