the asus wl-300n3g portable router, is it possible to connect an external battery says like mili or energizer battery pack to power it in true portable style?

Just curious,do i need to go all the way for homeplug if i want to extend wireless internet signal or is there any cheaper alternative because you need to buy 2 unit of homeplug right(rm 155 x 2)?
