haha saw this post lost of people still not frim enough on the bootleg quality, got my 1st daban mg astray red frame kai and been loving it ever since.

Got it painted and hardly can tell its a bootleg, so fullforce purchase and below are the stuff:

Attached Image

gaogao pg gundam mkii rmb228
gaogao mg full armor unicorn rmb158.4
gaogao mg full burst mode strike freedom rmb129
gaogao mg sinanju ver ka rmb171.49
daban mg nu gundam ver ka rmb128
gaogao mg kampher rmb138
gaogao mg zaku ii white rmb64.35

to tell you all how to really calculate price purchase from taobao as follow:

(listed price) + (seller to warehouse delivery) + (warehouse to yourhouse delivery) = total price in rmb

then there will be finance charges and conversion rates such as

your total price in rmb X 3% X rmb to rm conversion (guess is 1/1.65)

so my total purchase in rm is 1017.24 X 1.03 / 1.65 = rm635 excluding shipping fees and gst now if your total purchase is over rm400

heally82,  can recomend which brand HG quality is good?  icon_question.gif

actually all bootlegs detailing a bit shallow so its a bit hard to panel lining unless you do your own scribing.

so far haven't try dragon momoko yet, heard its quality similar to bandai, you can give it a try.

as for daban and gaogao that i have tried, its not recommended for 1/144 scale, actually bandai hg not expensive can give it a go.

heard zero honoo and hi-v vrabe have good review and value to money, can consider give it a go.

For casuals like me who did not paint their model kits. (only panel lining)
Is it still recommend to play with bootlegs? How's the colour separation?
I bought one "zhapalang" brand ages ago, it was bad..  hmm.gif

to be frank, you need to at least do some matt spray because bootlegs all have rough surfaces some even slight crack and slight surface deform.

else should be all right, saw lots of dragon momoko pics all looks fine can try...

I am curious, what rough surface you mention? I build Daban models (ARF and 00R MG) and they dont have rough surface, I would use Matt Spray on them not because of rough surfaces but that is because the plastic has more gloss on it compare to B.
*
Just refer to the pic below, usually surface deform with crack like defects and rough surface like uneven surfaces will occur with improper cooling or raw materials used of abs/ps. Bootlegs tends to have more of these defects which require further sanding and polishing or painting.

Glossier it is because they use some oil based solution for easier remove of their from the mold, so have to wash 1st before airbrush unlike bandai can paint straightaway.

those are called plastic flashes lol, saying rough is misleading

and Bandai kits also do need to wash, especially older kits with old molds
*
LOL I don't have enough pics to show but when I build my other bootlegs will you show you guys later on, most of the occasions after air brushing is ok for these bootlegs rough surfaces but when comes to mirror like glossy finish will be extremely troublesome to polish.

I use to plan to glossy chrome finish on my red frame but end up differently even I sand every parts of it due to extreme uneven and rough surfaces.

I have yet to see anyone shown glossy surface bootlegs without hellish sand process...

so if you are planning just straight build and matt spray should be ok, but if you're planning to do glossy finish will be pain in the back just to 100% sanding all parts after base coat.

thats why i still yet to start my daban sinanju, horrified when thinking to sand all curvy parts...

I did not mean that bootleg isn't as bad as you said, what I mean is your naming of the problem mentioned sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
LOL okay got it, actually theres 2 problem I mentioned, cracking pattern and rough surface.

bootlegs require more sanding to remove or reduce these problem to be less obvious unless its color can reduce the impact.

you can see from seller usually take photo for their bootlegs either bad resolution or prepaint a layer of matt surface

i have tried gaogao and daban both have this problem (heard ther're the same manufacturer) may be dragoon momoko better.

may be would be impropriety naming of these problem, maybe you can educate me?

guys, chill, he's not saying painting bootleg won't get as good result as Bandai

he's saying bootlegs need a bit more work to make it perfect, which is the truth
*
Dude thanks a lot for the explaination! cant imagine people can get so sensitive on this topic. (may be affect their business?)

the truth is you pay wat you get, praising bootlegs quality will give wrong impression to newbies

and also recent bandai kits can skip washing without issue as their kit using less oil residue or non from my experience

do try spray it straight (just nib and no sanding of course) paint holding strength is comparable with after wash no bullshit on this

glossy finish can be achieve but the surface is uneven from my experience on daban kits... (sorry i'm kinda picky on glossy requirement it is car model kit glossy grade)

my target is to achieve what show in the pic, i have tried bandai to achieve basic glossy just using nail polish sponge but never on bootlegs

currently i have bootlegs on sinanju, shud take hell and back numerous time to achieve wat i want...

also another pic is shown my other bootlegs freedom strike burst mode, ka nu gundam, full armor unicorn, PG mk2 and kampher. just so u know i am not against bootlegs, just dont over expect their quality

anyway why people dont mention bout their fitting issues (almost have blister on my fingers) ? their poor plastic has advantage tough, easy sanding normally took me 5minutes on bandai just took me few seconds to finish...

Thought I was upset him there, I'm not quite active in lowyat but frequently posting at china web acg 78dm.

Thought can be the same exp and info sharing here. So whatever I post here are all my own experiences, hopefully can get to know more builders here on gunpla customisation discussion.

So by all means I'm not against bootlegs just to share experiences on bootlegs.
