MRT Line 2 Gets Government Nod, Says MRT Corp

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) says the MRT second line has been approved by the Federal government.

Chief Excutive Officer Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid said the company is waiting for the official announcement to enable it to begin work on the MRT Line 2, which will probably link Sungai Buloh with Putrajaya.

"The second line has been discussed by the government. So now the government is considering when the project can start," he told reporters after a visit by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan to the Kajang MRT construction site near here Saturday.

"This is a good sign, because now we have continuity in the provision of transportation services to the public and its contribution to the economy," he said.

Azhar said construction of the underground section of the MRT Line 1, scheduled for completion in July 2017, is now 50 per cent completed.

"Basic construction work for the overall project is expected to be ready in the middle of 2015, and will be followed by upgrading works on the operations system," he said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the project's progress, saying putting safety measures in place will continue to be a priority, especially when they affect the public and workers.

Long time. Alignment not yet fixed, some more railway plan need to be approved, then public display, then feedback, then land acquisition etc.....

I don't think construction work soon. Maybe in my opinion, end 2015 or so or even 2016, but that is my guess hahaha

Based on SPAD outline of MRT North-South....

One can say...

Sungai Buloh- BSD - Kepong Sentral - Kepong - Jinjang - maybe Sentul - Kg Baru - KLCC - Pandan area....Cheras outskirt, then Serdang, Putrajaya...

My only concern is the route itself

No space to develop since most of the route have no land to spare

It will be interesting to see how they build MRT in the middle of Kepong. Tight space, busy road.......all the way to Jinjang then Jalan Ipoh.

The factory village just next to Sg Buloh depot is a swampy village, potholes road with tarmacs beyond recognition....

An average 1 acre land used to cost less than a million... now 1 acre of that village as shot up to RM8million.
