Hello guys need some advice here - my ibook can connect to the office win nt network without any problems for surfing to the internet, using remote desktop connection and also getting emails through microsoft entourage -
the strange thing is however, i cant connect to yahoo messenger or msn at all, using either ADIUM or yahoo/msn for mac. if i use a pc on the same network, no problems whatsoever
am wondering if there is any special setting i need to enable ?
same problem goes to my mac also

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jul 20 2006, 03:30 AM) if you could connect to the net then you should be able to use those IMs. any error messages? The error mesg is just the normal " connection error" when u dont have a net connection. otherwise, everything else is ok

I usually have no probs running a Mac in a mixed environment (my network has a lone Mac which I use for video/graphics and a bunch of Linux and Windows PCs). U should check to see if ur office have a proxy server, and if the program can autodetect it. Some cannot. It's usually program specific.
Oso, if ur office got active directory, see if ur mac can connect to it (I not sure about post-OS-X, but for pre-OS-X need to buy a program to allow it to join).
Good Luck!

have you try using other network? eg: your house or coffee shops?
this might a dumb suggestion but can try, did you check firewall settings in system preferences?

1) the ibook works fine for browsing net, email and chat (yahoo and msn) at home and wifi spots 2) all firewall settings are default- didnt change anything

Hate to say this but maybe you can try reinstall your OS since other Mac and Windows computers works fine. Is it still the OS that came pre-installed when you 1st time get it? Try to reinstall - that's my suggestion
