Too bad our beaches have no lifeguards. Normal people should not attempt to rescue others if the water is very rough. Good swimmers also can get drowned. Only trained lifeguards with the right equipment can do the work.

But he should have assessed the risk n plan escape way before trying to rescue people. Undercurrent is very dangerous and often underestimated. Even profesional would have studied the current pattern before trying to rescue. Sometimes, being helpful doesn't always means its a good n correct things to do. Thats the weakness that we malaysian have. We need to learn to be more assertive. From the article, he also bring risk to others when people trying to rescue him. Is not really a good wisr decision. |

RIP. I'm not sure if it's disrespectful to be saying this but let's not make his death go to waste.
Swimming in swimming pool and swimming in the sea is 2 different thing altogether. I've heard before that in a high wave seas, even professional swimmer might find it a struggle to swim much less to rescue another person Even if you manage to swim to the drowning victim, you need to have plan of action on what you need to do. You cant just swim straight to the panic victim as their natural instinct is to pull whatever they can reach to let them stay above water, remember Titanic and the scene of Rose with life jacket swimming near drowning victim? If they can't calm down, you don't go near them. I've seen lifeguard knock out a drowning man to save his ass (on tv) Malaysia songlap country, no money to hire life guard, seldom go to beach and see life guard Do not underestimate the sea wave, when looking from the beach, all you see is a calm sea, but it is different after 50-100 meter into the sea, even a 1meter high wave might look like a small ripple from the beach You cannot use the normal frog, butterfly, breast stroke, freestyle on the open sea, notice in Baywatch how the lifeguard 'dive' into the wave every time there is an oncoming high wave crash? I'm not expert but I'm sure that's how you're suppose to swim |

He is also my friend and i had just talked to him last week.
It's a respect and something we could have learnt here like some of the folks mentioned, the risk and the condition whether we can handle it. Now, left the wife and the son to continue their daily life is a burden. |

Very easy get along. Never feel he is LCLY at all. He is a good husband. Everything think about the wife 1st. He is a good son. He move back to seremban to take care the mother since the father past away last year. He have to travel from seremban to KL to Seremban to work everyday by train. He even selling off his fav bike due to his mother dislike. He is a very committed person. Never left work pending or tak apa attitude on work. He is a good father. He love his son and family very much. He is a music talent. He play very well on guitar and sing very good. MOST IMPORTANT HE IS A HERO.... |

Kejadian berlaku ketika Kong Wai Yoong, 35, dari Bukit Templer, Jalan Tun Dr Ismail, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan mandi di pantai bersama tujuh rakannya. Ketua Polis Daerah Besut Superintendan Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria berkata, mangsa dan rakannya tiba di pulau berkenaan petang kelmarin dan menginap di resort. Katanya, Kong yang juga ketua bahagian syarikat perundingan telekomunikasi di ibu negara lemas ketika cuba menyelamatkan pelancong asing terbabit. Beliau berkata, Kong turun ke pantai itu untuk mandi pada jam 4 petang bersama-sama rakan lain dan ternampak pelancong berkenaan nyaris lemas dipukul ombak besar. “Mangsa cuba menyelamatkan pelancong berkenaan tetapi dia terus dihanyutkan ombak ke tengah manakala dua rakannya, Snesh Verman, 29, dan Ivan George, 38, yang cuba untuk menyelamatkan mangsa turut dihanyutkan ombak besar. “Pelancong asing itu bagaimanapun diselamatkan,” katanya. Ketiga-tiga rakannya dibawa ke pantai oleh orang ramai tetapi Kong meninggal dunia dalam perjalanan untuk mendapatkan rawatan manakala Snesh dan Ivan menerima rawatan di Klinik Pulau Perhentian sebelum dirujuk ke Hospital Besut. Mereka ke Pulau Perhentian untuk berehat dan dijangka pulang ke Kuaala Lumpur, esok. |
