Here's the mod I'm actually working on right now. That's y I dont haf much time for my Project King Kong. Anyway, it's a brand new NZXT Guardian case. It arrived fresh from the postman n away we go to the modding. The internals r coming in through the mail as well. Planned rig is a 7300GT SLi rig with water cooling.

Let's start with how the case looks like now.

user posted image

Sum of the stuff I've bought for the project so far from Uglyvamp's BBS5. Sum Laser LEDs, RAM heatspreaders, 120mm UV fan grill.

user posted image

1st thing I did was to remove everything in preparation for modding the case.

user posted image

Removing the top panel. Phew, that was hard work. I've never seen a top panel secured with so many rivets b4. It was almost like Fort Knox. Overkill in my opinion. Usually cases haf about 6 screws or rivets holding down the top panel. This case had more than 10!

user posted image

I'm actually past this stage of modding Hypoglossal right now. Just haven't had the time to write up on it. Extra time I had was used to get King Kong up n running for my daily use. Also, I'm waiting for more of the parts to be delivered. Anyway, will write up on it once I haf a bit of spare time. Watch out for updates soonz.

erm, if he changes the front and side panels, what would then be the point of buying the case in the first place? It's probable that the customer bought this specifically for its, uh, looks... tongue.gif

Ya dude, the chassis is exactly the same as the cavvy/C5 except it has 2x80mm fans at the back. I'll be making the same 120mm intake mod as ure's on Hypoglossal so that the top mount radiator can haf more fresh air for better cooling.

Phew, it's been a really bz week. Finall got sum time to write up the updates. Here's what I did since the last update.

After taking off the top panel, masked it up n marked it out for cutting.

user posted image

Finished cutting.

user posted image

After that I dismantled everything in preparation for the paint job. Dismantling the side panel window, fan grill n screws.

user posted image

Now the difficult part. The face. OMG! This faceplate has got to b the most complicated thing I've worked with so far. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

user posted image

Look at all those parts from the face plate! Including the screws, LEDs, separate pieces n everything, the total number of pieces is sumthin like 50+ pcs. Can u imagine that? I've never seen or worked with a more complicated front panel.

Now it's time for the painting. Awaaaaaaaaaay we go to the paint booth.

user posted image

Finished painting with 5 coats of Metallic Black n 3 coats of Clear Coat on the side, top n front panels.

user posted image

It's very hard for the camera to focus on the panel now coz the autofocus cant seem to focus on the deep black finish. After trying a few different angles, this is the best shot I cud come up with to show the sparkling metallic flakes in the paint.

user posted image

The rest of the painted parts. U can c the ROM slot covers, the top piece of the front panel. C those really bright green pieces? It's really bright isn't it? That's coz it's painted in fluorescent green paint.

user posted image

Well, that's all folks. Now just waiting for the paint to dry. The hardware oso haven't arrived yet. Once the paint is dry, it's down to sanding n polishing. Then once all the hardware comes in, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha it's time to boogie!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, that is a white ATP3 indeed. I bought a Special Limited Edition from the Apple Store in New York to match with my all Apple desktop theme. Even my table n chairs match the Apple theme. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Here's how it looks like as a matching set.

user posted image

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif No lar. Just joking, it's a modded ATP3. I painted it gloss white.

but i got temps of up to 45 degrees. [er and that isnt accurate, must tambah 5 more degrees] when i was benhcing @ 2.75.
the thing with that chip is, can hit 2.5 easy, but to get to 2.75, needs a voltage boost

Kakakakak. They wanna make their own Limited Edition ATP3s mar. Anyway, the external mods is just top window n the radiator is gonna be mounted there too. Then gonna make a 12cm intake at the front just like the 1 I did on ures. The front is exactly same as ure CM Cavalier.

Wokeh. Here's sum updates on Project Hypoglossal.

After leaving the paint to dry n harden for 2 weeks. I rubbed it down to get rid of dust imbedded in the paint. This is how it looks like after a good rubbing down.

user posted image

Then it's down to more rub-a-dub-dub. N this is how it looks like after all that work.
It's so so difficult to get a good pic of the panel coz it's just so glossy n black. The autofocus on my old camera wudn even focus on the panel. With my new cam it finally focusses on the panel. Here we go with the pics. Howzabout that for a real mirror shine.

user posted image

Shot with the flash to show the metallic particles in the paint.

user posted image

In this pic u can c the effects of the metallic particles in the paint. The reflection is really bright but the metal flakes diffuses the reflection a lil bit. If this was pure gloss black, it wud look like a mirror without the diffusion.

user posted image

That's it for now. I will be receiving all the parts 2moro except the PSU. More updates cominggggggggggggggg soonz.

Updatessssssssssss.

I wasn't really satisfied with the shine on the panels eventhough they were already a brilliant mirror shine. So....................... what to do but polish n polish n polish sumore. sweat.gif sweat.gif I swear this polishing is better than aerobic exercise or jogging. Damn tiring maaaaaaaan.

N the result? Here we gooooooooooooo. A true mirror shine. Same level of shine n finish as 2K car paint. The pictures don't even do it justice. U hafta c it in real life to believe just how shiny n smooth the paint is. THIS is what u call mirror shine. 5 coats of black n 3 coats of lacquer + lots n lots n lots n lotsa polishing, not sum 2 hour 2 coats painting n then just call it a so called mirror shine. This whole paintjob took me a total of 3 days just to paint the 8 coats, 2 weeks of waiting for paint to dry n harden, 3 days of polishing. That's about a 3 week process just for the paint. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif I'm finally satisfied with the paint now.

OK. Now that the paint is done. I'll b moving on to finally finishing up on the case mods like top window n front intake then install everything inside. More updates comin right up. Need to go sleep 1st. Sunrise oredi, Dracula needs to go sleep now. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I can also paint the inside but there's no point in that coz a lot more work n no1 looks behind the panel. laugh.gif The paint wont increase the temps.

Sumore updates at last.

Mounting the Black Ice Pro 120mm radiator n Panaflo fan under the top window. Top window is now complete.

user posted image

After that I moved on to the front 120mm intake mod. This mod is exactly the same as the mod I do for the Coolermaster Cavaliers n C5s.

Cutting up the front panel to fit the 120mm fan.

user posted image

This is how it looks like with the 120mm front intake mod completed.

user posted image

After completing the front intake mod, I realised that the red fan is wrong color. Doesn't fit the Project's color theme. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif So I removed everything, reinstalled the green fan n put everything back together again. Silly mistake cost me 30 minutes just to reinstall the green fan. vmad.gif

size effects the noise n airflow.
follow cfm better.

small fan can have high airflow but will be noisier compared to a larger fan with the same cfm.

it too depends on what's the cooling purpose of the fan. you wouldn't use a 120mm fan to cool a chipset right?

I can mod it to slide out from the side. So u can slide the fan out without removing the HDD cage. BUT I'll hafta shave off sum metal from the side bar. Won't affect the structural integrity much but then again, it's not my case n I try to stay with the factory looks as much as possible. Nowadays fans haf a MTBF of 50000 hours anyway so most ppl wont need to remove it for a long long long time. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Ya the bigger the better of coz. Coz the bigger fan will always flow more air than small fan.

Isn't this case like, really quite flimsy and clumsy?
My friend bought, and ask me to install the parts, it was really difficult. Especially on an SLI setup like his.

Time to install the completed top window with radiator mounted on it. Look at this pix. U'll notice there is a reinforcement bar for the chassis at the top to hold the ROM cage shape. It's gonna block the radiator.

Time to install the rear exhaust fans. C that purple box thingy at the back? That's the thing that contains the 2x80mm fans.

user posted image

Here's how it looks like after taking it off the chassis. Funny thing is NZXT only gaf 1 fan with it. It's a plain ugly black fan anyway so no probs. Let's get rid of it.

user posted image

In goes the bling bling fans. After putting the UV LED fans in, it's just a simple refit back onto the back of the chassis.

user posted image

Time to put on the top panel. The case is slowly taking shape now. It's just a matter of putting the components back on after all that cutting, painting n polishing.

user posted image

Time to fix back the side panel with a new green UV LED fan n put the plastic window back on.

user posted image

Side panel done.

user posted image

Now it's time to put together the Transformers face I had to disassemble for the painting work. All the pieces ready for reassembly.

The case is now complete. Here r the pix of all sides. Just look at that looooooooooooooovely gloss metallic black paint on it now. It doesn't even look like the same case that I started with anymore. The original case came in an ugly matt purple paint.

Remember this? Look at that ugly matt purple paint.

IMHO, if ur gonna put bling bling fans at the exhaust, might as well cut out the grill at the plastic housing as well... otherwise u cant even see the fans man... kinda beats the point of changing it to those fans...

the rest of the case is nice... love the color scheme thumbup.gif

I didn't want the light from the fans to corrupt the UV look inside mar. Anyway, those rear fans light up the back nicely in the dark. It's for blinging up the rear area in the dark. U'll c what I mean when I update sumore later.

Hahhahaha. Yup, like Ambilight.

Anyway, here's sum updates.

It's now time to install the hardware.
1st thing I did was to install the Opteron 170 CPU n then the Corsair Cool waterblock.

user posted image

Next thing I did was to change the Chipset fan on the mobo as it's a well known issue on DFI mobos. So........... on went an Evercool fan. Also sleeved the fan wire in UV green. The fan has LEDs in it. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

user posted image

Then I installed the green aluminium RAM heatspreaders for more bling bling on the mobo.

After settling the mobo, it's time to sleeve the PSU. It's a Fortron Epsilon 700W. Came with black sleeves n black molex. I changed the sleeves to UV green with UV green molex plugs, 24 pin mobo plug, floppy plugs. I forgot to take a pic of the finished PSU. rclxub.gif But u can c in the next few pix of it in the rig with the green wires n plugs.

Hardware all installed n ready for leak testing of water cooling system. Did any eagle eyed fellas here spot sum goodies in there made by electronics sifu allngap? Hehehe. Let me point it out. C that nice yellow RAM cooler? There's more, if u look carefully behind the radiator at the top, I also installed allngap's really nice multi color LED set. It's all controlled by a swtchbox which is installed in the ROM slot. There r 6 switches u can play with n it switches the LEDs from Red-blue-green. Then u can also mix colors ureself by flicking on blue n red to make purple for example, there's more combo colors like aqua n white too depending on which switches u use to mix the lights. Very very cool lighting system. U'll be able to c the light switches in later pix.

user posted image

Watercooling system is leakproof after testing it for a few hours. Time to lock down the pump nicely to the chassis. Notice it's an Eheim pump. We're not using the Laing pump that comes with the kit coz Eheim pumps r more reliable than Laing IMHO. I myself haf experienced 2 failures with that particular Laing pump. With Hypoglossal we need the pump to be rock solid reliable as it's gonna be taken a long long way from home after completion. This rig's gonna be taken to Russia n it's gonna go tru sum extreme weather n all. So we sacrificed a lil bit of flow rate, for more reliability.

Here's a shot of the front slots. The allngap LED set switches r there right at the top. Then there's the Sunbeam Multi function panel. I set the Sunbeam to read the 2 HDD temps n monitor the front intake fan speed.

I almost forgot about the pix I promised to show the special LED lights that can change colors with the 6 switches.

Here's the rig in just UV CCFL.

With red LEDs.

Blue LEDS.

Green LEDS.

Purple mixture.

It's also capable of Aqua color n white too. Sumhow, I forgot to take pix of those colors. All the above colors r obtained by using just 1 set of LEDS. There r 6 switches mounted on the front ROM slot like in this pix. U can select different colors by flicking on different combos of the switches. Sweeeeeeeet lighting system.

That's it for Project Hypoglossal's pictures from me. Let's hope Mr. Hypoglossal comes back online soon. He can then update us with pix on the whole workstation in Russia.
