HI to all FUTURE BUYER of ILLEGEAR PERFORMANCE laptop).
I just wanna give a quick review regarding this Superb company. I bought my 2nd gaming laptop with them 1 year ago. Recently, i got a problem with the laptop which it always shutdown suddenly. Then i contacted Illegear support team. My Problem solved within less then an hour meeting them. What a superb service from the ILLEGEAR support team. What happened was, i received a totally awesomely awesome (not to much exaggerate rite? LOL) service from them. We met at the Plaza AUG if im not mistaken. I forgot already the place name because im not from PJ. Waited just for 15minutes, then he arrived in a full ILLEGEAR uniform. Nice Uniform Man!!!! Just Like Their SERVICE and LAPTOP. I told him all the problem i faced, then he tried everything he could do. We ran several system and it seems like no problem. Then when he opened up the laptop to check the thermal paste, then we found up the problem already. The thermal paste was hardened and that was the main problem actually. So, i help him to clean up the thermal paste and he did reapply the thermal paste for me. He did it in front of me and i can say that, he is a very skillful technician, i mean a very professional technician regarding ILLEGEAR laptop. So, guys, i just wanna say that, the ILLEGEAR service is totally SUPERB and AWESOME. No other brand can beat them. Maybe DELL? i Think, this one is much more better and FRIENDLY. All in all, i would say that, please do buy laptop from them IF!!! You are looking for a HI-END performance laptop and A VERY SUPERB AFTER SALE SERVICE... Yeah.. now i can play game that i loved very much.. Congrats ILLEGEAR.. Hat off for you guys. |

QUOTE(SoZa @ Mar 16 2014, 02:29 PM) i'm not talking about screwdriver I didn't use any dampers. Just slot it in. Works fine till today. If the drive is screwed up, I can always claim for warranty. i mean when installing the drive, should i use any of the provided dampers or screw to secure the drive, or just sliding it into the slots is enough |

Thank you Illegear for the great response. Email-ed them about fan and got a reply to it real quick. Got it diagnosed and they told me it was normal. Marc even took out and checked and replaced the thermal paste for me. Kudos to Illegear!
A brand I would definitely recommend to everyone else. |

May I ask, is there anything like the ILLEGEAR RE-17, that you're offering for RM3899, but with say, upgradeable GPU?
Or I have to go with a different model altogether? I'm just curious, since I'm planning to buy a laptop with support for upgradeable GPU (I'm planning to upgrade the GPU every 2 years, for the next 4 years, assuming Illegear models DO support this) |

However, you may check out ILLEGEAR RS-17 http://store.illegear.com/rs-series/13-illegear-rs-17.html with MXM connector, you have higher chance of doing so successfully in future. |

Due to overwhelming demand, the lead time of ILLEGEAR laptops order has temporarily increased to 3-5 business days. Moreover, some of our ILLEGEAR models are zero in the inventory: RK-17, RE-13 Pro, RE-15 EVO, RS-15 and RX-17 EVO.
We are trying our best to restock from the factory and hopefully they will arrive our warehouse sometime next week. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. This post has been edited by Prince J: Jul 1 2014, 11:05 AM |

QUOTE(bugb34r @ Jul 9 2014, 08:43 PM) Hi bugb34r,Simply put, the more sticky the thermal paste the longer it lasts. IC Diamond is one of the most sticky thermal compounds we have ever used so far. It can last 1 to 2 years depending on your usage. |

The ILLEGEAR RS-17 EVO is built with a more "flashy" approach, as you can tell by the various lights around the speaker bar, keyboard and mouse pad, etc.

QUOTE(Eyern @ Aug 4 2014, 02:10 PM) Hi Prince J, I'm interested with this model. But I'm just wondering on the proc, whether to choose the free i7-4702MQ upgrade or stay with i7-4710MQ. I've checked the differences and the 4710MQ has more features. Hi Eyern,I7-4710MQ is a newer processor but i7-4702MQ has better battery life (37w vs 47W). The i7-4702MQ is more expensive from Intel factory. |

Nvidia GTX 870M 6GB GDDR5 is currently out of stock on ILLEGEAR RS-15, RS-17 EVO and RX-17 EVO.
ILLEGEAR RU-14 PRO inventory level is extremely low, hence the price gets back to normal. |

On 25 October 2013, the Government of Malaysia had announced the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as part of the country’s aim to form an effective, transparent and fair tax structure.
National tax legislation requires businesses with an annual turnover of more than RM500,000 to register for the GST. In line with that, we wish to inform you that ILLEGEAR will be registering for the GST, which will take effect in Malaysia from 1 April 2015 at a rate of 6%. Visit gst.customs.gov.my or call the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD), manager and administrator of GST implementation in Malaysia, at 1300-888-500 for GST-related information. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at 03-76100987 or email us at billing@illegear.com if you have enquiries. Team ILLEGEAR |

To what extent can ILLEGEAR upgrade your laptop? GPU is soldered on board = GPU cannot be upgraded? Wrong! Our customer has just upgraded his Nvidia GTX 765M to GTX 860M on his ILLEGEAR RE-15.

How can Illegear RX-17 EVO accommodate 2x Nvidia GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5 in SLI mode without overheating? Here are the tricks. The beast only uses 100% copper heatsink and heatpipe; each GTX 980M is served with triple heatpipe, individual heatsink, individual BIG fan and individual air vent.

Nvidia (Maxwell) GTX 860M 4GB GDDR5 vs 2GB GDDR5, does it matter?
"Monolith recommends a 6GB GPU for the highest possible quality level - and we found that at both 1080p and 2560x1440 resolutions, the game's art ate up between 5.4 to 5.6GB of onboard GDDR5. Meanwhile, the high setting utilises 2.8GB to 3GB, while medium is designed for the majority of gaming GPUs out there, occupying around 1.8GB of video RAM." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalf...rs-6gb-textures |

ILLEGEAR Z5 is currently out of stock. We are trying our best to restock from factory and ETA is around 17th this month. You can still see the Z5 demo and preorder in our Empire Damansara office.

ILLEGEAR Z5 has a very BIG subwoofer and it's so far the best subwoofer which can produce deepest bass among all ILLEGEAR laptops.

Hi, I was looking for a future proof laptop for some time now, as some of you might have reply to me back in the recommendation thread. I was tempted with this but the one thing that gripes me is the justification of the price/specification/performance ratio.
I know that "you pay for what you get" principle, but I just can't seem to find a reason to justify it. For example the Z3 starting price is RM 3799 with 8GB RAM, 500 GB RAM, without RAID, OS and comes with 2 year warranty. But top it up with OS, RAID-1 with 2*128 GB mSATA SSD, 1 TB SSHD, AC WiFi adapter and the price is a whopping RM 5500. Considering my Toshiba laptop was bought at a price of nearly RM 3000, which the specs may not be as high as the Z3, is there, I mean, seriously, there a justification to the pricing/specification/performance ratio to the point that such a trade off is worth it?? |

The Z5 starting price is RM3799 and the default configuration is good enough for common gamers. If you wanted to addon 2x 128gb msata ssd, AC premium WLAN card and 1TB SSHD the price will definitely go up a lot. Considering the Z5 has Maxwell GTX 860M 4GB GDDR5, big subwoofer and 8 cell battery, it's not expensive at all. This post has been edited by Prince J: Nov 11 2014, 02:59 PM |

Quoted ILLEGEAR FB "Do you know that ILLEGEAR Z5 uses a 150W adapter for its Nvidia GTX 860M 4GB GDDR5 rather than common 120W adapter for laptops with Nvidia GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5?"

Hi, want to ask, at spec stated for the height dimension like 16.7~43.1(H)mm, what does it mean? Is the thickness varies from 16.7-43.1mm depending on spec?

Hi kazairol,16.7mm is the thickness of the screen + bezel. 43.1mm is the thickness of the laptop plus rubber feet height. |

Copper is three times more expensive than aluminium, then why must gamers go for copper heatsink? Copper has excellent heat sink properties in terms of its thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, biofouling resistance, and antimicrobial resistance. Copper has around twice the thermal conductivity of aluminium and faster, more efficient heat absorption. (Pic credit to ILLEGEAR Z5 heatsink)

Any thoughts on S5?
Planning to get it but am a lil bit concern with GTX 970M 3GB only GDDR5. Future-proof wise in gaming (~3 years)? Also, is 8GB RAM sufficient? |

Also, is 8GB RAM sufficient? GTX 970M is a beast regardless of 3GB/6GB version. And yeah for better future proofing, I suggest you to get GTX 970M 6GB GDDR5 in RS-15. http://store.illegear.com/store/12-illegear-rs-15.html |

ILLEGEAR Z5 and S5 face severe shortage of IPS/AHVA wide color gamut and viewing angle displays. We are trying our best to restock from factory, ETA is next week. If you are in urgent need, please go for the default 15.6" Full HD Anti-glare display, you can come back to us for upgrading the screen in future.

I just noticed that the GTX 980m on S5 is just 4gb, how well does it fair against the 8gb version from RS-15 or RS-17?
Since I just placed an order for the S5 that I configured for RM7k+ Was thinking might as well just order the RX-17 EVO lol Then again I'm not running at 4k so I think the 4gb should not make much different. And the slimmer form factor of S5 is indeed enticing lol. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Jan 1 2015, 03:42 PM |

QUOTE(silrave @ Jan 16 2015, 01:02 PM) Don't go for MXM GPU lar.. It's not easy for you to get MXM gc nowadays.. either you need to pre-order or the sales guy will offer you some OP price.. and sometime when you changed to a new GC.. your laptop architecture doesn't support will have a lot of problem..So you going for which laptop wo actually ? I play game on ultimate / ultra setting like Tomb raider and Skyrim.. It will tired the eye when it's smooth and using very high texture. Your card is the highest end in laptop ad.. until now..But can our eyes see 4k resolution ? I play game on ultimate / ultra setting like Tomb raider and Skyrim.. Most ppl won't recognize any different between 4k and 1080p.. but under some circumstances where there is a lot of detailed texture then maybe you can see the different.. And most game don't support 4k yet.. you can try your Skyrim on ultra 4k.. I think you're playing it on 1080p currently right ? And yes.. it will decrease your performance if you play on ultra 4k.. Cause laptop gpu is not as good as desktop gpu.. |

Forgot to mention there's zero throttling.
Wheres with other laptops most probably you will see the CPU throttle to < 1Ghz under Prime95 + Furmark full load. |

I have a genuine question (since this is a thread for all Illegear users anyway)
Do you folks use any cloth / fabric in between the screen and the keyboard? I know Illegear laptops don't come with anything with default (I clean the screen because of the lines that appears often after closing the lid) Any users want to kindly share? |

Hi guys, need some advice here:
I need a laptop that can play GW2 and Planetside 2 and has a good screen that will allow me to process my images (I sold my MBA precisely because I couldn't get much detail out of the screen) as well as be portable enough to be lugged around to uni and into libraries. I'm interested in the RE-13 Pro, anyone have any reviews on it?(especially battery life while not gaming) Should I get it with the CNY promo? Or possibly wait longer until the 960m version is out? Also, is the 72% color gamut going to be enough for image processing? I am by no means a professional though. |

And yeah the GTX 860M can play GW2 and Planetside 2 smoothly. 72% NTSC is enough, please note macbook pro retina display is also NTSC 72% gamut. According to some reviews, the battery life on normal use was about 5 hours. I would go for a 15 inch model at this point if the battery life of the 13 isn't that great. |

Only ILLEGEAR RU-14 PRO (Clevo W740SU) has 5 to 6 hour battery life. Other clevo models in our store cannot. Our Z5 (15.6") has about 4 hour battery life with 8-cell battery, you can consider this model |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Feb 14 2014, 12:06 PM) Hi hurrnet, Just wondering what was the outcome for the case above? I 've faced a similar issue on my RX-17 and already sent in for check yesterday, got an email today that it will be sent to Clevo for further checks. Any eta on this? If possible please film a short vid of beeping sound to support@illegear.com it can help us to check the problem. Did enquire support but no replies on the eta. I do some photography work on the side so need an estimate when can I get it fix or alternatively I 'll source a backup comp for myself. On a side note, I do have to commend your team for being fast and responsive! *cough* although there was the thing about you guys not wanting me to come up to your empire office yesterday due to a media event *cough*! And met me in the lobby to collect instead. Nevertheless, the rx 17 has been a smooth running beast since I bought it a year ago.... Untill the beeping and death of it couple days ago! Hope it gets fix soon! |

Been using my S5 with GTX 980m for a while and notice there is one issue with running games with it.
So far I only played Starcraft 2. Diablo 3, Resident evil 4 HD, Resident Evil 5 and Dota 2 with it and I notice the same issue in every single games of these. For the most part, it runs them perfectly, but once in a while, the FPS will drop to 40-ish from constant 60FPS for no apparent reason. I notice this the most on SC2. Diablo 3 and Dota 2. Just all of a sudden, for no reason, ie there isn't much thing going on, just regular character moving in Dota 2 in an empty lane and I notice the FPS drop/slow down. Same goes to Diablo 3, just walking in the town, then the FPS can suddenly slowdown to 40-45ish for several seconds then it goes back to 60fps. I've kept the GPU driver updated and make sure it's in maximum performance mode but doesn't seems to solve the issue. Any idea? This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Feb 18 2015, 04:15 PM |

The latest driver did that. I play Dying Light and the same thing happens. Rolled back to the Dying Light game ready driver and no more frame drops.

I think for stability issues, or something they don't want laptop gamers to do, not sure what. If want to OC need to flash BIOS ? any way of doing it ? I now dono how to do it leh.. need some guideline.. They want us to get a new unit every year.. Without OC the card will be even faster to be outdated I afraid |

I want to lower the clockspeed and memory bandwidth sometime as the game doesn't requires all very high spec to play on highest settings.I did it in previous driver and it works like a charm. Well maybe they underclock it too much.. Some ppl tend to straight away OC or UC by big margin without even testing it on low value first.. lol |

Rolled back to 344.75, can overclock but didn't really solve the random slowdowns :/
Seriously this isn't some hardware problem or what is it? I refuse to accept the fact that I spent 6k+ on this machine with GTX 980m only to find that it can't even run Dota 2 smoothly at 60fps lol This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Feb 22 2015, 01:26 AM |

Solution: Go to power management, turn off all the power savings mode. |

Cause I also facing some problem on my Z5 with 860m. I won't get 60fps with smooth screen transition on Lobby Match. But when it is Pub or MMR it performs smoothly. Smooth screen transition + fixed 60fps Does playing other game still have the same problem ? Like COD, BF etc etc Test without OC-ing your CPU and GPU, mostly throttle is caused by OC-ing. Lower your resolution to 1080p if you're running the game at 4k initially. 980m CAN'T run game on 4k reso smoothly. |

All games are running at 1920x1080 only. No 4k. I did not overclock both GPU and CPU. By the way, I noticed that the GPU usage does not go beyond 50% when I play Dota 2, and the temperature does not go beyond 62 centigrade. What the F? It's like the GPU isn't really working like it should lol If your Z5 with 860m can run Dota 2 smoothly out of the box, then something is very very very wrong with my S5 with 980m :/ Perhaps I should send it back to Illegear and have them to look at it. But how come you can furmark and benchmark without having the issue ? It seems weird, cause if it is an hardware issue, you won't perform well and most probably will also face the similar problem when you perform benchmark or furmark. |

Make sure to back up your stuff. |

Hi awyongcarl,
According to the conversation I guess this issue is related to the Nvidia Optimus where the game switch your GPU to integrated graphics hence the FPS suddenly dropped. You can try updating your Intel HD graphics driver, Nvidia graphics driver, adjust your power plan, adjust your Nvidia control panel performance setting: 1. Open NVIDIA control panel. 2. Manage 3D settings 3. Global settings tab 4. Power Management Mode settings, select "Prefer Maximum Performance" 5. Preferred Graphic Processor settings, change from "Auto select" to "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" By the way, what OS version are you using? |

With Optimus, you're stuck with it, and no way to disable it in the laptop.
Which is why I got my Aorus X7 Pro, which ran off dedicated 970M SLI, and the onboard Intel GPU deactivated permanently. Optimus creates more problems than solution when you're treating your laptop as a purely gaming laptop connected to power plug all the time. Optimus only is useful when your gaming laptop is intended to double as a work laptop to extend battery life via switching to Intel GPU. Extra benefit? Only non-Optimus laptops are expected to be able to take advantage of the upcoming mobile G-Sync feature, enabled once the drivers for mobile G-Sync is ready. |

Maybe you can but having to do that or switching in and out of BIOS to do that, isnt what I call convenient. To each his own, I prefer no Optimus than having one at all. Optimus creates more problems for gaming on a gaming laptop than the sole convenience of prolonged battery life. For productivity laptops, you will need Optimus to enable you to work on your laptop longer. |

For productivity laptops, you will need Optimus to enable you to work on your laptop longer. QUOTE(Prince J @ Feb 23 2015, 02:13 PM) I guess Nvidia optimus really suck. My old hp laptop using AMD allow me to do it without any problem. Still can function well on game and normal usage, just that battery drains fast.Well laptop is not like desktop which got unlimited power supply, so I think it is essential to have this, but still it brings lots of problem You can't expect a gamer to 100% gaming when they switch on their laptop right ? |

Well laptop is not like desktop which got unlimited power supply, so I think it is essential to have this, but still it brings lots of problem You can't expect a gamer to 100% gaming when they switch on their laptop right ? The thing is, if you're lugging around laptops with high end discrete graphics, you're not be using it other than playing games or doing graphics-intensive activities that REQUIRES plugging in your power plug. And yes, I do expect a gamer to 100% game on his GAMING grade laptop, because that's the reason they bought a GAMING grade laptop. I do. If I bought an expensive GAMING grade laptop and use that to do spreadsheets or web surfing, I'd consider that a gross misuse and money poorly spent, I could've gotten a cheaper, longer lasting Ultrabooks than a GAMING grade laptop. |

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Feb 24 2015, 12:01 PM) Who are you reassuring, yourself or other people? Well, relax. Don't get me wrong. I'm not denying your point of view. I just stated my opinion, that's all. No need to be so offended The thing is, if you're lugging around laptops with high end discrete graphics, you're not be using it other than playing games or doing graphics-intensive activities that REQUIRES plugging in your power plug. Even though you're purchasing a gaming laptop, it is still logical to think not all gamer play game once they turn on the laptop right ? It is like saying a gaming PC/Rig just can game, it can't do normal task like web surfing. Maybe the gaming portion is 99%, but there is still 1% portion which is for normal usage. And if you're a professional gamer, since you are required to plugged in to power supply, why not just get a PC ? Well it is just my opinion. If I offended you, I apologize. Sorry |

Will do, but I'm just happy to find out the problem lol, thank you so much bro Later your warranty void brother .. Though I have to say the new bios unlocks many useful setting in the BIOS, I much prefer this than the stock bios that has literally nothing to tweak If this voids the warranty, man that sucks. I remember the old Asus G1S and Alienware M15x stock bios has more setting to play with than this Illegear stock Bios -.- This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Feb 25 2015, 12:38 AM |

I think my S5 may have a bad ram. I'm getting BSOD that says "Memory Management Error" very frequently since this morning. Ran the windows memory diagnostic and it says problem were detected. Guess I'll have to pay Illegear a visit very soon after all ><
Tried using memtest86, I've got 91k errors lol EDIT: I swapped out the Samsung 4gb ram, left 8gb (Team elite ram 4gbx2) in the system with dual channel, now testing and see if the laptop is stable. If it is then I guess this Samsung ram is faulty. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Mar 1 2015, 08:40 AM |

In most cases, people want to add in ram, they will get them in bundle, because it ensure the rams is in most compatible state with each other. If you go to any shop, you can see they are selling bundle ram which mostly comes in 2. Note: is your Samsung 4GB ram same as your 4GB Team Elite ram ? as in clock speed etc etc. ? What OS you're using ? This post has been edited by miong93: Mar 1 2015, 11:02 AM |

An update from the RAM testing.
Yeap, I have confirmed that one of the 4gb Team Elite ram is faulty. I've tested all 3 RAMS (2 Team elites, 1 Samsung)one by one and once I swap that faultyTeam elite ram out, everything runs perfectly. Can I just send the ram to Illegear for RMA lol, it's kinda inconvenient for me to part with my laptop. |

Hi, sorry to ask,
I'm trying to install TeamSpeak, but I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong here. I'm using TeamSpeak3, 64bit version. After install, i assigned a hotkey (numerical keypad enter) as the "trigger". When I tested it, nothing is recorded. If I recall correctly, the microphone for the RS-15 is located right next to the front facing camera module. Any advices? |

Aha. Found the solution.
Apparently, the REALTEK HD audio manager combines both the built-in-mic together with the "mic in" jack. It would not be a problem, but in cases like TeamSpeak, it wouldn't recognize. Solution: Go to REALTEK HD audio manager Go to device advance settings select "separate all input devices". Voila, built-in-microphone usable. Note: very sensitive microphone. It was able to pick up my wife chatting on her phone next room, even though I can't listen to what she was saying, but the mic DID pick up the chatter. LOL. |

Hey PrinceJ,
I bought a laptop during the CNY promotion but your free bags were out of stock. Has it been restocked yet? Also, as the battery is non-removable (S15), any tips on maintaining battery life so it doesnt lose charge over time? thanks This post has been edited by Crissaegrim: Mar 21 2015, 03:28 PM |

QUOTE(Crissaegrim @ Mar 21 2015, 03:18 PM) Hey PrinceJ, You need to pm Prince J your order number and they will ship it to you. ILLEGEAR announced the bag has been restocked not long ago. I bought a laptop during the CNY promotion but your free bags were out of stock. Has it been restocked yet? Also, as the battery is non-removable (S15), any tips on maintaining battery life so it doesnt lose charge over time? thanks I think it is S5 instead of S15. S15 is from Aftershock though. |
