Hi to all, currently i am interested in buying a used manual Savvy. Maybe i will just search the car in mudah.com.my then bring her home. Because i have zero idea how to check the condition of the car, is it possible to send the car to RS Auto and hire them to check for me?

please do that. savvy are cars that if you think that there is 1 problem, there is most definitely 3 problems elsewhere. however, all problems are well-documented and rectifiable. as long you're getting a good deal for the car, problems can fix later  icon_rolleyes.gif

Try to avoid 2007 and before pre-facelift edition. Rear wheel spindle is weak. You do not wish to experience driving 120kph and suddenly the wheel detached and fly off. Despite Plotong got recall, but not many owner send the car back to replace the flawed spindle. Unless previous owner still got the service manual, clearly stated the car has went in for the rear spindle replacement.

1) Take note on all oil leaks, make sure the undercarriage is totally dry. Oil leak can be very expansive to fix and god knows where it leaks, could be multiple places.
2) Start engine, ask someone to jap the gas pedal repeatedly(without wrecking the engine). Put your hands on the intake box and feel the engine vibration. If the engine jerk backward vigorously, meaning engine mounting(s) are gone. There goes RM500
3) With engine started, slam on the brake pedal hard, hold the position for 5 seconds, see whether the pedal continue to sink. If it did, there's a leak on the master brake cylinder.
4) With engine started, turn the steering wheel very quickly, to the left, pay attention if there's any grinding noise emit from the engine bay. If yes, could be steering rack/power steering pump damage/low in powersteering fluid(if there's no leak, where does the power steering fluid gone?!). Do it with full right turn as well.
5) Test front power windows functionality and rear windows. This part of the accessories is extremely expansive because it's incompatible with any other model. Uniquely designed for Shawie.
6) Invite salesman and your friends/family to sit inside the car. Blast the aircond and do the negotiation inside the car for 5 minutes, see whether the air condition is working correctly. You wouldn't know if it has a leaking coil that will cost you a bomb for replacement. Usually dealers will fill up refrigerant and let customer test the air condition, sell off the car and call it a day.
7) Off engine, pull out dipstick. Use a clean and white disposable napkin to swipe the engine oil. Gold color is good. Brownish is moderately good. Dark/black watery, not too bad. Black thick and sludgy, stay away from that car. Previous owner doesn't take care of engine maintenance.

Those are pretty much the most important thing to check when buying ANY CAR, particularly expansive for owning a used Shawie. For the expanses may incurred during the first few weeks of ownership, please standby these amount of money to repair/service the car before decease cure your wallet:

1) RM500 for timing belt kit replacement, include labor. You may use Plotong original, not necessarily Renault original. Unless previous owner present official receipt of recent replacement.
2) RM500 for clutch kit include labor. Insist on Renault original! Other brand may save you some 100~150, but the performance, reliability and quality is no match of Renault original.
3) RM300 in total for brake fluid flush, engine oil and filter change, air filter replacement, transmission fluid change, radiator flush, power steering fluid replacement. Unless previous owner present official receipt of recent replacement.

Good luck in hunting.

Thanks for the tips, it will come in handy this afternoon, very appreciate it. One of the forumer from this Shawie club is selling his Shawie, will go and take a look this afternoon. Thanks. notworthy.gif

Hi guys, my savvy 2009 mt speed meter occasionally dropped to 0 even though i am in high speed driving. From the previous post it seems to be gear box speed sensor issue, and this item can be purchased cheaply from here
https://www.mudah.my/Proton+Savvy+Gear+Spee...or-28203726.htm
Btw, may i know is it hard to change it by ourself? If very hard, can introduce me a good mechanic shop to change it?

HI, I managed to pull the speed sensor out from the slot, but couldn't pull out the wire that attached to it,

Usually how to pull it out?
Do we have to cut out the wire?

The sensor is located right behind the engine, so gonna twit the arm and so to slip it in, can't even have a good look on the sensor, haha

Thank you so much for your guidance!
I re-soldered, everything working fine again!

Initially i sent this car to my mechanic friend to fix it, when i passed the car to him i even gave him the web detail that explain the issue come form this speed sensor. After a day, he called and insist issue is from meter board and need to change the whole set! blink.gif At the end he said cannot fix because cant find the new board again in the market rclxub.gif

I took back the car, search this forum and follow the guidance, now the car fixed! Thanks for all the sifus here, especially bro Fireballs! thumbsup.gif
