Friends i am watching this post for past 2 years & i am a sawier as well. kudos to all.
For every trouble we face in savvy, LYN club can help to figure out the root cause & clear idea on what to be fixed. Even the magician(mechanic) also will not be explaining that detail.

Here are few conversations which i had with David (sifu) notworthy.gif

He is such a helpful person & briefs in detail explanation. thumbup.gif

As all this were PM conversations, sharing it for betterment of everyone. as adviced by SIFU icon_rolleyes.gif

Savvy Starting trouble :

ap_venu:
As i discussed with your earlier about my starting trouble. i checked about the fuel pump functioning. My observation : after i key in & ON, i feel a mild TOK sound at the back seat. I am not sure, whether u r reffering the same.

The starting trouble occurs not every time, its occasional. Some times when i face this, i will trigger the Start until the engine starts. It starts, few times fails. I OFF the key & try again.

Guide me further i am in Shah alam area.
Savvy Manual 2005 Model

davidke20 Re:
It most probably is the TDC crank sensor already. I had mine brush clean, solder it directly instead of using detachable bracket, until today no problem.

In Sawi, the fuel pump sound is mild. Something sounded like an electronic sound for 1 second then no more. Perhaps, the next time if you face the cant start issue, record it as you try to crank that time. Atleast I can have a listen to what sound was that.

Sawi having hard to start issue, usually lies between ignition coil distributor, TDC sensor, and lastly air filter too dirty. But highly possibly is your TDC sensor if you're referring to only happen once in a while.

ap_venu:
Sure i will record during the start & post it to you.
So do u suggest me to take it to workshop to clean this TDC sensor. As am in shah alam area, do u suggest me any near by workshops ?

davidke20 Re:
Renautech in USJ 1 is good. Otherwise, you may proceed to Klang look for OSMAN BABA. They're all 1st class Savvy experts.

ap_venu:
Hi David,

Yesterday i faced starting trouble. During that time i tried many times key start, still it couldn`t. also i was able to hear the fuel pump sound. After some time i found a guy to push start. Then it was fine till now. Later in the evening after office i checked with a near by work shop in the diagnosis computer - he didn`t get any error code. He also checked battery - its fine. So now i am worried what could be the issue. He also suggested me to check/change the spark plug, fuel filter. Whats ur suggestion ?
Whats ur opinion with RS Auto, Taman sri mudah ?

davidke20 Re:
Believe TDC sensor disconnect? Have solder mine, until today no issue at all.

ap_venu:
Ok i will do TDC solder in first place. I guess RS Auto can help to get this done.

davidke20 Re:
iirc it's RM20 oni.

Problem with power steering fluid pressure sensor:

ap_venu:
Hi David,
Hope u r doing well.. Yesterday it was a sudden surprise in SAVVY, when i try rotate my steering - it reflects some trrrr trrr Sound in front inside the bonnet. But i couldn`t locate where is the issue. Could you share your experience in this ? Kindly help thanks..

davidke20 Re:
Check power steering fluid level first. If not that, it's the pump. If not pump, it's the steering rack. Fluid if not enough, top up. ATF is around RM20/litre only. Steering pump is RM450 for recon unit. Steering rack, RM700 onwards. Original is 1200 if not mistaken.
Good luck. Better send to reliable/trustworthy magician. If not renotek

ap_venu:
I just notice that power steering fluid level went lower than min level. Also behind the front right tyre i notice oil leaks.

davidke20 Re:
Could be the steering rack or the power steering fluid pressure sensor.

ap_venu:
ok sifu... i will take it to RS Auto, taman sri muda (now its TNH Auto there)..
Hope there shouldn`t be a big probs there..

ap_venu:
Hi David,
Yesterday i visited TNH Auto, be looking down inside the right tyre & leakage the foreman concludes its Sensor problem. He charges me 380 RM for changing new one. Refilled me the ELF ATF fluid. Is this happens because of my roughness in driving ?

davidke20 Re:
It happens all the time, almost every Sawi the steering fluid pressure sensor will kong over time. Depending on luck. Some old school fella would have just jam a screw on the sensor and seal it off permanently. However, the warning lite will always be lite up on the meter cluster, and you wouldn't know if power steering fluid leaked dry. For me, seriously do I care? If I have a leak sensor, and knowing that sensor is going to leak again very soon, I rather just seal it off. Those old days when people driving proton wira for 20 years without that warning light also no problem, why would I care so much if it's a Sawi.

ap_venu:
Ya logical answer. But i didn`t got any warning lite in my meter cluster. Anyways if it happens again. all i am going to do is to seal it off permanent as u said.
Today went for general service -
Engine oil - 118
Spark Plug - 80 (4 pcs)
Labor charge - 80
air filter - 27
petrol filter - 30

davidke20 Re:
where do u go for servis? kinda expansib in my opinion

ap_venu:
TNH Auto (RS Auto previously) now in taman sri muda, seksyen 25 - Shah Alam.

ap_venu
Hi Chief, Hope u r doing good.
In Savvy when ever i break it produce sound - kccchh kcch.
Any suspect of what to be done ?

davidke20
Front or back? Any other symptoms other than the noise? For example shakey steering/vibrate brake pedal? Only apply brake the sound came? Or driving on uneven road also will have sound?

ap_venu
Only apply brake the sound comes. I feel its from front tyre. No other symptoms.

davidke20

Tyre suggestion :

ap_venu
Hi Master, yesterday i faced with 1 tyre problem. As checked with mechanic, the tyre cannot be used. its a threat to run with that tear in the tyre. So need to change.. Kindly advice on the place, price. in addition to that its recommended to do alignment as well . anything more than that ?

davidke20
Jalan Ipoh Bt4, Kean Lee Hian. I'm on Achilles K-Economist for my wife's car, as an ECO tyre for fuel savings. I myself using Achilles K-Sport, supreme dry grip but can't stand the wet. Technically I'm using it for speed, handling, the rest I don't care. Both of these brands I'm getting 140 & 160/pc. If you're not aggressive driver, might as well go for K-Economist. You may directly PM nestum. I have full trust on this person work on my car.
ap_venu
oh ic. noted. Jalan ipoh Bt4 --> is it near Taman rainbow (as i see in google maps)
Whats ur view on good year brand ? i noticed my present tyres are with that !!

davidke20
A good year is a good year, people preferences. The reason I choose Achilles is below:

1) K-Economist = very good mileage, low road noise, considerably comfortable. I choose this because my wife usually using this car
2) K-Sport = Extremely grippy, suitable for aggressive driving style, added I'm weekend track day fans.

If you ask me about the GoodYear NCT5 came stock with the car, yes it's a decent tyre. Average mileage, average quality, average on everything. Price, about the same as my choice. So yes, anything below 160 is good to take if you're not particular. Please do PM nestum personally so shall he introduce you what's best fit to your car. You'll just have to make an appointment with him, ask him give you discount to the max, and he'll do the favor for LYN forum members. Please particularly mention you're from LYN Savvy club. I have already recommended all my friends and family to him, and to be guaranteed satisfaction so far. People who have gotten tyre from him as below:

1) ericmaxman - Saga owner /Achilles Sport
2) NOX - Savvy owner /Achilles Economist
3) NOX - Swift owner /Yokohama
4) v12kompressor - Saga owner /Yokohama
5) My brother in law - MyVi / Silverstone Blitz
6) Myself - Saga / Achilles Economist
7) Myself - Savvy /Achilles Sport

There are more, but I can't remember all of them anymore.

ap_venu
Hi David bro... i checked my Tyre size 175/50R15.
i contacted Kent @nestum, no response. But manage to get his handphone number - i called him for Achilles, he said Achilles comes with 165 width. not the same spec. As this my first time i also don't have much idea about it.

also his location is very far for me. bcos i am from Shah alam seksyen 13. sunday he seems to Off sad.gif

1 wheel is cornered with tier, so i was using my spare tyre. & front 2 also in very bad condition. remaining 1 was changed recently. so i dont want to change that. In this situation i thought of changing the same brand tyre for other 3 near by. i survived & found. Below was the charges incurred by me. This shop is @ Batu 8, Bukit kemuning.

bcos of so many bents in the RIM . mechanic did suggested to change the RIM as well.

Good year NCT 5- 3pcs : 450 , Sport RIM (trade in) 250, centre cone +alloynut+steel air hole = 170, camber nut (adjustable) 2 pcs 80. FOC -- balancing+alignment

Next time sure i will go for achilles. in this same shop i asked for it. But he had only 2 pieces in the same size.

Few gave me bad feedback may be they dont get better margin for that indonesian brand.

Achilles is good as over all in the brand or suitable for saavy to drive ?

davidke20
Achilles is Indo tyre indeed, but the rides and handling superceed far beyond expectation. Good year NCT5 is standard tyre for Sawi, so it's ok to go with it. You are right about the tyre width 165/55R15 for Achilles, meaning 10mm less. Many tend to argue on the smaller tyre width has less grip, but my Achilles has so much grip that the car is very agile and easy to drive. Bad feedback, other than the bad margin as you mentioned, I can't think of any others. Even @nestum himself not promoting it, only I'm the 1 shouting out loud about it.

The price you're getting is reasonable for the NCT5. For replacement rims, please ask the shop to find you these:

1) Perodua Alza
2) 2nd generation Honda City
3) Vios TRD

Other than these spec, no need to think. These 3 are the king of hardness. Can take harsh driving. As for the accessories, if you take 1 of these rims, you do not need a centre cone(centre cone are a piece of ring add to the centre of the brake hub to avoid the after market rim shake, technically all stock rims doesn't need 1 because the rim were already built FIT the car), can use back original nut! Delete the camber nut as well, unless your car went through a huge pot hole the entire lower arm is bent. Otherwise, I can't think of why. Balancing/alignment is SUPPOSED to be free with new tyre purchase anyways.

I will not try to poison you Achilles anymore if you're not coming to KL to do it. Pls proceed with NCT5 as per your suggestion. But do remember to delete off the few rubbish.

ap_venu
Hi Sifu. Greetings from me. Hope everything fine. I have come back to get your views on one problem which I am facing. Savvy air con sometimes there is no cooling pumped but sometimes normal.

davidke20
Probably thermostat jammed, send to aircond guy.

ap_venu
sure will go for it. Would like to know, roughly how much this can cost.

davidke20
cost for that valve is about 50. Cost of removing dashboard, dismantle aircon blower, replace full refrigerant ... ... laugh.gif Obviously I can't give you an estimate. Probably 300~500? Might as well give your akon a full service laugh.gif

ap_venu
Seems like a big budget smile.gif Will wait for the time to go for it.

davidke20
In future if any thing pls ask in forum for the benefit of all. Other Savvy users unable to see our PM exchange nod.gif And, occupying my time replying your personal queries are very selfish unless you're asking me out for yumcha or any other personal matter(which is why it called PRIVATE MESSAGE), then it's fine to PM me. Don't get angry ya, merely stating the fact, and I did replied you.

David Sifu : where to find the SPEEDMASTER premixed coolant ? I was able to find RECO-COOL coolguard in Shell station. which costs 1L 35RM.

1st radiator water : to be replaced with absolutely distilled water and permitted coolant. I use SPEEDMASTER premixed coolant, RM95 for 4 litres. If you want cheap, then go tesco buy a gallon of distill water, buy another bottle of concentrated coolant, add it in. Should cost you less then 40 bucks in total. Normal coolant changed will cost you RM25.

Can't think of any other reason, other than

1) starter is dying
2) starter relay is dying
3) ignition key switch is dying
4) loosen battery pole
5) battery is dying

Please further elaborate, how crank sound sometimes not audible? Sarcastically, when my key not being turned at the ignition switch, my crank sound not audible all the time until I turn the switch, never fail icon_idea.gif

To me, it sounded like weaken solenoid, unable to push the tikus out reach flywheel.

1) Could be battery weak
2) If not battery, it's weakness of solenoid. Plonk a relay draw direct current from battery could extend the starter life abit before the solenoid totally gone wonky
3) Looks like the last resort is change starter

So need to try as suggested below ?
