I originally bought the Panasonic TS20 some years ago. The picture quality was horrible and the camera died after maybe 3 times in the swimming pool.
Replaced it with a Panasonic TS5 which is much much better, haven't died yet even after water, sub freezing temperatures up at Everest Base Camp. The picture quality is not as good as my Fuji X10 but it's good enough for most uses plus as a daily camera the response time is excellent, definitely better than my Nexus 5 camera phone. GPS tagging is pretty useful too.
However I have a GoPro Hero 3 Black too, and when looking at video specifically, the GoPro is leaps and bounds better.

QUOTE(maryshaw @ Mar 5 2014, 09:51 PM) most of the time the underwater housing itself will cost at least rm1k.. usually more expensive or similar pricing to the camera itself. your budget is a bit too low for an underwater set up.

Light and portable underwater camera, best is still the Go Pro.
Also depending if you plan to go diving with it or just snorkeling. If diving then you need a proper underwater housing that can withstand up to certain depth. There are cheap OEM brand ones which probably cost RM500+ or so. Canon compact camera housings are above RM800+. And that's not inclusive of the camera.
