Hey guys, need some help on making guitar covers.

Here's my rig;
Spear t200q
Roland Cube 20GX
Behringer GUITAR LINK UCG102
2 Pedals
Guitar Rig 5
Audacity
Reaper

Last time I made 2 covers before, using the behringer guitar link and audacity, so I would have to play the song, record with audacity and add the guitar rig 5 effects after recording it.
Which means I couldn't hear my own guitar while recording and I find this really hard to do so.

Anyone can help out? What should I do?

Well you can skip audacity. Does reaper allows you to use guitar rig as vst? Im using ableton live to record, using gr5 as vst. You can monitor your guitar playing while recording, tweak effects, etc. You will just need to adjust the latency settings though at asio panel.

Apparently, Reaper does support it. VST

I dont know about Reaper's interface, but there should be a menu that you can open gr5 from within Reaper and apply the effects real-time.

Thanks, do I record it with Reaper then? and do I plug it straight from my guitar to the USB link?

Also can I record straight from my guitar>pedal>pedal>amp>interface?

Yes, usb link -> reaper -> gr5.

If you wanna use your pedals instead of gr5, yes it can be done. Theres no need to hook it into amp. You just need to connect directly to interface.

Hey there, I have already set up Reaper and Guitar Rig and added my guitar rig to Reaper.
What should I do next? I don't hear anything and when I record it doesn't detect too.
Not too sure what's going on rclxub.gif

Ok i still cant see. Go to the icons on the bottom right of your screen just beside the date and time. There should be a green 'play' button there(asio) or any asio icon. Right click and select the asio panel. It should look something like this.

user posted image

Note actual input/output may vary. Blue means that channel is active. Clicking it turns to gray (means inactive). You should select only 1 input and 1 output.

The latency settings, you can tweak later.

First, select 1 and then try again with the recording.

Second, if that fails, download asio4all. (Looks like to me your driver is using the 'behringer usb audio' instead of 'asio' driver). Try to download asio4all, install it and then relaunched Reaper. Once its activated, you should see it in the notification icons for you to tweak the settings.

ASIO download

Yeah, It works now. Thanks so much for your help and do you have any idea why it has a hissing sound when I record and play? For some presets yawn.gif

You should adjust the noise gate at your GR5 when you use it as VST. You need to adjust this especially if you are using the metal effects to avoid that hissing sound. And also, another way is to reduce the input gain.

No problem bro, glad to help. smile.gif

Also, I get a pretty loud hiss even with clean sounds

PS: I'm not sure if it's a hiss or not but it sounds like a crackling sound

On top there's IN, GATE, and OUT.

IN/OUT controls the gain. Lower your input to about 20-30% and lower to output to 60-80%

GATE controls the noise, adjust accordingly..

Also, if there is still hissing, check you cables, it might be the one causing the hiss

Additional info: at the right side of UCG102, there is a toggle switch, set the guitar signal to LOW if the led turns red..

Hey, lets say if I recorded a riff with clean and delay from GR5 then right after that part I want to use my pedal but without the delay effect, can I remove it after recording it?

Or recording it without the delay then adding it to the part where I want?

Easier way, record without the delay; and add the delay effect on the parts that you need to.

Cut the highlighted part and paste it onto a new audio track (like a new layer). Then apply your vst effects in that new track.

Hey bro, remember me?

I've come up with yet another problem :/
Recently, I've just decided to make a guitar cover again and I haven't done one in awhile. And I'm not sure what happened but I think something is different about my GR5 settings or something.
And I've gone blur and have forgotten a lot of things about this.

At first I opened Reaper straight and got ready to record, but there was no sound, then I realized my GR5 wasn't working in the first place, there's no sound when I play.
I've checked tutorials and videos on youtube on how to set it up and my Audio and MIDI settings have been set to my Behhringer UCG102 Interface and should be all correct.

One thing I noticed though, is the CPU bar on the top right keeps changing withing OFF and BYP.

Whats up? Please help out! I hope to see your reply ASAP smile.gif

Saw your problem there. Don't use MIDI for this since you are not sending MIDI signals anyway. Change MIDI track to an Audio Track and try again.

Also, have you configured ASIO panel? Ensure you have the correct INput and Output..

Yes, I have done that. I have done everything like what you told me for Reaper, months ago. Like how I used to do it. But it doesn't work for some reason and I realized even GR5 wasn't working in the first place so
I figured I should fix it first. But GR5 doesn't have any sound when I connect and play.

Hmm tough one. Try launching gr5 alone without reaper. If it works, then theres config problem at reaper. If it doesn't work, check your connections. Try to troubleshoot one at a time so you can isolate the problem.

For me, i dont use the GR5 or vst in reaper, because my pc got problem with driver and GR5 can feel the latency even though micro.

So recently I use Zoom H1 to record, then edit in reaper.
Example of recording with H1.

Camera using cheap logitech. Video edit using Powerdirector

Up to you, any cam will do since video and audio are separate

Saw your problem there. Don't use MIDI for this since you are not sending MIDI signals anyway. Change MIDI track to an Audio Track and try again.

Also, have you configured ASIO panel? Ensure you have the correct INput and Output..

Wah effect is in gr5 bro. But as far as i know you can only use the auto-wah. If you have a pedal or a traktor (not sure what Native Instruments pedal was that exactly ), then you can control the wah. Well you can always use your digital ME for that.

You use LFO and assign the parm to the cry wah wah. And then adjust the rate.. Exactly this:
