Anyone heard of this?
Why we study so hard to meet computer science requirement then?

This diploma thing is more like a slightly lighter version of the major, where in the first year, each semester you take same 3 IT units as degree students + 1 year-long general studies unit (ATS I think). Then once you passed all your units in first year, you then proceed to year 2 degree as usual.

It is not really that easier as those are still the same degree level units, plus for certain core units you would have to take later compared to other students (e.g you would miss out FIT1008 Intro to CS for 1st year), and if you fail certain core, to proceed to degree, you have to retake that core before you could proceed to year 2.

Any comp student?  February 2015 here.. Do you think the calculator we bought from mufy Texas instrument will be in use during our degree?
*
Computer Science? I don't think you need the TI graphing calc (I didn't even use my scientific calculator much lol), as our math units don't require calculators. But it may be helpful for certain things tho.

evofantasy Yeah been hearing horror stories about these y2 units, thanks for the scare and making me suddenly worrying about those units in summer break haha XD

D-Frog erm year 1 was ok (quite chill lol) for me sweat.gif cause some things I learned before, and some things are new. Year 1 basically are those basic stuff/intro like algorithms, sorts, database, computer hardware, programming, discrete math and continuous math etc. If you have background already, should be smooth, else no worries you'll just be like a lot of other people starting fresh only.

There's a mentor thing on Thursday.does it mean We will have a mentor?  hmm.gif

yehh basically thursday is a mingle/ice breaking session to let you get to know your coursemates, and they will assign you a senior to be your mentor, good for asking directions and get study tips tongue.gif

For MUSA day hor, yeah it's a school vs school games kind of thing, if you are free, join and make SoIT proud heh heh (IT school team won all 2 intakes' MUSA day games last year tongue.gif) and to make friends

hey guys, any comments on using mac laptop in uni? will it bring inconvenience or mac is quite widely used?
*
It depends on your course (because some courses like engineering may need specialised software like CAD those kind for windows only, but you can install windows on a mac so yeah..), but generally it is quite commonly used in the uni.

For IT, a mac has the strength of running all major OSes (OSX (Unix), Windows and Linux) for all kinds of coding and full Unix terminal.

Hi, I am taking Engineering for October intake in Sunway campus.
I have a friend who is staying at SS15 and he has a room to rent. I am wondering whether I should take the offer or not.
Do you guys think it actually makes sense to walk from SS15 to campus everyday? Walking will take about 0.5 an hour.
Or are there any other transportation alternatives?
Or this is stupid and I should stay in campus accommodation?
*
To get from SS15 to Monash I don't think only takes half an hour, plus it's not that safe to walk there, you would have to cross busy roads, roundabouts, and some secluded area. Imagine the weather + carrying your laptop/books.

I think SS15 rent prices are quite similar to Sunway area (... both also high lol) + personal opinion SS15 not that safe, so might as well stay closer, can wake up later for classes laugh.gif and can enjoy campus life & activities better. Unless you drive then you can stay further la.
