Well my math is a bit on the bad side, and I can code alright, but psychology itself also interests me the same way. Plus I don't mind either, I can always learn by my own at my own time later in life, it's just now I'm trying to make a decision.
*
computer science is all about maths especially maths without numbers.
do not get into comp sci if your math is weak; instead go for IT.
computer science is rarely about programming (programming is IT once again).
there is a reason why comp sci in monash have a generally high failing rate for first year units and it is due to the weaker math background from most students.

---

As for how lectures here are different than MUA, you have access to MULO where you can watch podcast for the lectures on MUA side.
Materials are the same for the same unit by the way and there are high amount of contact between the staff here and staff at MUA for each unit.

There is rumor saying that the IT department in monash Malaysia isn't that great anymore as most of the lecturers left?
Can you confirm this?
*
Lecturers come in and go in pretty much all institution. There is no longer IT in Monash Sunway anymore btw, so that contribute to the change in staff too. Comp sci wise, it is pretty much not affect and seems like Engineering side will handle the math units for it to be better as the previous math lecturers were part timers.

Yup, that's true. Many great lecturers left, due to the management and racist.
That's what one of the lecturer told me.
*
The only really great one that left for me during my years there were Dr Belkathir and he left to go back to France (during my 3rd year). The only lecturer I know who leave the tutorial like a boss if you don't prepare for it or make you stand up in lecture if you are late or do not pay attention.

For the racism thing, that is new considering current lecturers are all pretty multi-national compared to last time being majority Chinese lolx.

ps: who was the lecturer that told you about it O.o

Well what about Computer Science programs of other universities like Sunway or Inti? They too follow the same lineage? Thanks for the input there by the way.
*
not sure about those now but back then (around 2006-2007), the programs from inti/ kdu (i did not check Sunway since it is near Monash) focus too much on the programming aspect where their CompSci program feels like an IT/ IS degree than a CompSci degree.

Computer Science? I don't think you need the TI graphing calc (I didn't even use my scientific calculator much lol), as our math units don't require calculators. But it may be helpful for certain things tho.
*
i dun remember using calculators at all during my time. i wish math still have numbers =(

Guys I'm gonna finish up my SAM and I was going to apply to Monash University Malaysia to do my BA, until is saw these horrible, horrific employee reviews. shocking.gif

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Monash-Un...tatus=PART_TIME

All of the employees mention a "toxic culture", "bad pay masters", "worse academic institution is South East Asia/ Malaysia", "Australian University as a Malaysian Business, run for your life". "Dwindling enrollment rate", "% of the staff got fired, % going to quit, etc"

Can I hear from the students? I just can't imagine studying there would be a pleasant experience. If your lecturers feel they are treated bad or working for a terrible employer or are generally unhappy, how will they find the motivation to impart their knowledge to their students?
*
i will say these are the vocal minorities.
sure pressure and expectations are high, but this is what expected if you are aiming to be good (had lecturer who just randomly quit from stress lol). you can say that teaching here isn't a walk in the park especially with the student diversity (thus the high turnover).
i can't speak for the other schools, but mine is pretty good so far especially the consistent contact with the MUA (school ranked much higher than the general ranking).
enjoyed teaching here and shall continue to do so.

PS: enrollment rate is increasing, else we wouldn't be needing more and more carparks lolx

PS2: one of the "reviewer" can't even spell lousy right, spelled it as "louzy" doh.gif . Another couldn't spell "weak" right. Sorry but it is hard to take such reviews seriously if they claim to be academicians

I am pretty close to some of my tutors (younger ones of course), and yup it is somewhat like that hahhaa
management is very very strict and the toxic culture is somewhat true I guess.

as some monashians would know that there are PASS(peer assisted study session) class that is taught by previous high achieving seniors, guess how much they are paid per class? RMxx jusco vouchers.
*
the vouchers are due to the regulations that you can't pay out cash to students thus it could only be vouchers

is it.. i got rm80/hour last think i think... during 4th year tutoring newbies
*
he meant the PASS session.
PASS sessions are additional optional sessions where seniors act as mentor for the juniors for selected units.
it isn't consider a tutorial session.
things get more complicated when it involve international students (especially when they act as PASS tutors) due to the recent regulations for international students because they can't be paid (as students).

quality is important... to have is good on paper only

IBL = industry based learning
basically internship arranged by the campus with industry partners that counts towards the credits

CompSci fresh grads here last year were getting around 4k fresh grad salary.

considering fresh (before confirmation) without any working experience in malaysia.
if the university isn't good or recognised to be equivalent to a good uni (even to the Melbourne counterpart), then i don't think that would be possible.
