IBL = industry based learning
basically internship arranged by the campus with industry partners that counts towards the credits

Students from SoIT and Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) can apply for Industry-Based Learning (IBL) in which the completion of the programme may grant you job offers and opportunities. You'll be placed with an industry partner of Monash for about half a year as part of your course during the third year. I don't know about other schools regarding internships though.

If you want to compare the main campus and the Malaysian campus, of course it's not gonna be 100% equal. This applies to all institutions with branch campuses especially international branch campuses. No branch campus is going to be perfectly on par with the main campus.

Nevertheless, MUM is a well-known and a pretty top private university in Malaysia and has very good quality. I'm starting my Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) this week and I believe there is no issue with job placements, internships, etc.

which year are you in atm?

well even my friends who graduated from SOE had no issue with it (then again they were top students) and being in good MNCs with very good salary.
CompSci fresh grads here last year were getting around 4k fresh grad salary.

considering fresh (before confirmation) without any working experience in malaysia.
if the university isn't good or recognised to be equivalent to a good uni (even to the Melbourne counterpart), then i don't think that would be possible.

Hello. I am a prospective student for the October intake. Does anyone know if October intake has any advantages or disadvantages over semester 1 intake which is in February? Also, I am still hesitant in general, what do you think of the University as a whole and especially engineering?

Hi! I will be taking up Business and Commerce(Accounting & Finance) for this October intake.

I have a few questions to ask:

1. Is it guaranteed that I can maintain the Monash High Achiever Award(which I will get it once I enter) during sem 2 if I manage to get 75% WAM and above for my sem 1?

2. Since the 3-year degree is a non-honour program, can I still get 100% PTPTN repayment waiver once I graduate, provided I meet a certain WAM?

3. Is it true that the extra 1-year honour program is more valuable compared to the 3-year non-honour program in terms of employability and application for master in prestigious university overseas?

4. Is the High Achiever Award eligible for the extra 1-year honour program?

Thank you.

For Australian 3 year degrees, honors is not awarded automatically based on your results, but its a 4th year that's only offered via invitation only (based on your 2nd and 3rd year results). You will start off with learning about research methods, then finish off with the publication of a thesis.

In terms of employability, it really depends on the employer and what they're looking for.

In terms of application for post graduate courses (such as Masters or Phd), it depends on the nature of the course as well. If you're looking at a research based course, then you will have an advantage as you have done research work and published a thesis before, especially if you managed to find a supervisor who's interested in you expanding on your honors research topic. Also, one of the prerequisites of being able to skip masters and jump directly to PhD is to have gotten a 1st class research based Honors.

looks like they recovered from the slump 10 years back then. at that time getting even 10 students per intake can be considered lucky and the staff numbers were totally gutted. Was in serious danger of being absorbed into the School of Engineering then too. In fact, a temp head of school was appointed from the School of Engineering at that time as well.

mainly due to the general perception of the public that thinks comp sci = IT, not realizing it is different and one of the most sought after major in the world

actually no, its not to do with the Comp Sci vs IT thing, although this itself is a huge debate.

There's a world wide slump at that time in just about any IT courses during that time. Even the Clayton campus was laying off staff too back then. The infamous Llyod Alison who everybody thought will be in Monash forever also left at that time. But for Monash overall, Comp Sci in Malaysia was hit especially hard as the entry requirements were pretty high compared to other colleges in Malaysia.

i think Llyod is back as I saw his office in Clayton recently...

anyways back then the BITS side was still healthy compared to BCS in Malaysia. Half my class went from BCS to BITS after failing FIT1008 lolx

oh well, that's not changed at least. in fact, one of those who was originally involved in coming up with the BBUS course (the original name for BITS) actually mentioned to me that part of the reason for the course to exist is as a fall back for those who applied to BCS and cannot get in, and for those who got into BCS and flunked out of to go into.
