Maybe call up CS to see if you can get AF waiver first. Usually it comes with swipe conditions. Then only cancel. You need to pay RM50 GST too, unless there is an offset offer. Again, call up CS.

I just called in to ask about the insurance but both Jerneh and Citibank cannot confirm whether the policy is set upon buying the air tickets or upon traveling.
As I am traveling on 15th March, this case is really confusing. If I am not covered, I may need to look out for a travel insurance now...

just get it from a real insurance company, more comprehensive policy

experts; i have a situation here, i applied a Citibank Platinum VISA & Platinum Reward card with a very specific requirement of getting a high credit limit.

But after i got the card, the limit is just 54k. Ok thats fine and all, so i called customer service and they said i can't increase limit and have to wait 6 months first.

Now, the reason why i even applied this card is to swipe an 80k+ item. Can I make a 40k CC Payment from my Maybank to Citibank when I don't owe any money to citibank credit card?

The purpose of that is to push my total available balance to 94k. (means actual limit 54k, and I transfer 40k from Maybank to Citibank as CC payment)

Will it work? Anything to be wary of?

I'm asking because i know my own Maybank don't allow me to "pay" into my CC account when i don't owe anything. So I was hoping Citibank will have different regulations regarding this...

*ps - I swear to god i'll cancel this card after i got their promo item as well, i feel ashamed just to be associated with anything Citibank related, their service is just rubbish, and even that's an understatement.
*
The answer is no.

Quite ironic that you feel ashamed to be associated with citibank and yet you still applied two credit cards.

Today is day 3 of my holding this citibank card, and i've already had such impression on them. Ironic? Not a bit. This just shows how fast citibank establish their bad reputation towards new customer.

The only reason i applied for citibank is for the free promotional offer item (and to swipe a hobby item without being discovered from my nagging wife)
*
That's the thing. Was it because they deny you the high CL thus causing you to have such impression or you already have prior experience with them before this?

1. Yes, the requirement i placed to them is very simple, minimum 3 months of monthly epf'able income. If that cannot be met - just consider my application void. However i have received a few calls saying "oh yes yes yes that's very easy, why not apply our infinity card also, will push your limit even higher" Up until when i got the letter and look at the laughable credit limit.

2. Called their CS, and after a few questions regarding overlimit, card intrest, annual fees etc - the customer service HANG UP my call.

3. This is just day 4 of holding a citibank account, yet i already received 2-3 calls on so called "promotional" offers from citibank. Do you know it's annoying?
Point 1, they outfront LIED.

Point 2, incompetent CS. CS is your company's image, yet you hire someone who knows nothing, cannot even converse in a formal sentence. I even got answers like "You will know when you will know lah", "When system pass, then pass lah, how i know?"

Point 3, terrible product pusher, inconvenience to my daily life. I'm picking up a call, thinking it's something related to my personal life or business, and ends up a waste of fking time telemarketers.

Point 4, almost all of my friends don't have a Citibank account, reason is because they also heard of bad reputation amongst their own friends, and they told me more bad things about Citibank after i tell them what's happening the past week, and hey, they've just heard an additional bad remark about citibank from myself!

There's a reason why so many people are saying bad things about Citibank, and now i know it firsthand. Cancelling my card after getting their free promo item (maybe that's fake advertising from Citibank?).

It will worth much less effort to cancel all accounts and stop dwelling on this irrelevant bank. What's done is done, and lesson learned.
*
1. Did you make a black and white remark in your application that if they are not able to meet the CL, then the application is void? and for most banks, the cc approval, CL matters are assigned by a different department.

2. File a complain rather than venting it here. I would.

3. Did you untick the box about receiving promotional/marketing stuffs? I think I did and I never receive such call.

I am quite surprise for the non waiver of AF reported here. I cancelled my CC and made no mention about AF whatsoever. The CS who called me back said can waive my AF but I said no thank you as I really want to cancel it.

Most of the time I saw aunty them use citibank credit card when making payment in Jusco...

I assuming bank is targeting old generation probably they only know limited credit card detail in market and as long as they are feel happy with their service, no point to change again.  Imagining if a person who use it since long time ago.

I don't think they wanna to change it. But this is different from working adult
*
I agree. Imagine my surprise when I found out one of my uncle has been paying the annual fee for years...until i told him can try to call asking for waiver.

I have a citibank platinum card in which I call in to terminate it. As simultaneously I am holding too many cc. I roughly spend rm 50k in total on the card. Now the CS say I can't direct terminate it, instead she will refer my case to retention department and they will call me back. That is my worry. If they offer me AF waiver , should I accept that? The only benefit the card has is Free PPL but I seldom travel and my other cards also has free PPL. If reapply after 6 months, they might offer me better gift like luggage bag ( if I intent to use back Citi cc).
*
I don't see what is the problem. If you don't want the card anymore, terminate and don't accept any retention offer. No one can stop you from terminating your credit card.

I Would Vote on:

i) Maybank (Amex)- having the BEST CS of Local Bank although  Maybank have rejected My Ikhwan App, Not even bother to Update my CL Increment in CCRIS, the figures remain Same as the Time when I got their 1st CC in 2013...  whistling.gif

ii) RHB - Their CC's Benefits  So-so only but Wiling to Offset the Annual Fee just to Retain a Customer when We Call in to Request for a waiver furthermore RHB CS also Provided a 1800 Free-toll no.  to Customer thumbup.gif

iii) Citibank- Still Remain the Best Customer Service for Overseas Banks but need to Pay AF just to retain Good Service from Them, as Sometimes they kasi AF Waiver but Sometimes they tak mau kasi, pulak...sweat.gif
*
Mine would be Public Bank, Aeon and CIMB. Citibank and SCB would be among the lowest.

The 1800 for RHB is offered to which card type? It is still a not a toll free call for VS.

have read through this forum found that some user of citibank card unable to get AF waive

here is my experience i call up the person on the line told me wait until AF appear on my statement then just call in to ask whether can waive or not

for the past few years when i request they usually proceed to waive it

i was like huh.. wait the AF charges appear on my monthly statement @@

he said now he cannot do anything have to wait

looks like he want to trick me pay the AF and hope i dont cancel it huh
*
AF is advance payment. so if you did not make any swipes after the date, you can terminate without paying the AF

Anyone cancel citibank cc before? I cancelled mine but the CS say no letter of confirmation will be issued. Is that true?
Other bank will give a letter stating that the card is cancelled.

2-3 years back, I insisted for citibank to issue a letter and i received it. But this time, the online portal is good enough.

But I am sure even it's ticked, I can request to cancel right??
*
an advice. make sure you cancel out the things that you plan to untick. some agents may just tick them on your behalf.
