Nvidia doing it again, not surprised Look at the prices of their current GTX 780 and 780 Ti, although the R9 290 and 290X are trading blows and sometimes faster you can buy AMD cards at much cheaper price (R9 290X can be fetch as low as RM16xx brand new). The only thing good for this Maxwell is higher efficiency. If this is going to be a hard launch with immediate availability its going to be in short supply, hence the massive price hike

When is the last time you use AMD cards? Their driver is pretty much as good as nvidia driver. Just sold my R9 290 btw, reason is my 620W PSU cant handle it. Still, its the best card I ever used and the driver is stable. No games I throw at it that it cant handle

Generally, coil-whine is RMAable. Most companies will accept the change, but I'm not sure about Zotac.

The problem with most reference based cards (assuming the base level Zotac 970 is based on that similarly, if such reference design for 970 ever exists) is that they tend to somehow exhibit some certain level of coil whine when under load (usually when running benchmarks). And what SSJBen says is true, my personal experience with Asus and MSI cards is that they really do not have any such issues. I believe it's because they've used superior quality chokes (SAP for Asus) and (SFC for MSI). However, my reference based 780 AMP! Edition does not have any coil whine, fortunately. But most reference based cards I've tested sadly have this problem plaguing it.

still hesitating between the 970 and 980    i initially wanted the asus strix since it will match the motherboard i'm going to buy (asus crosshair v formaula z). but i dont see the 980 strix my deadline to buy everything is next monday lol

Yes, that was what I encountered. Not necessarily limited to reference cards though, my R9 280X Vapor-X was having coil whine as well.

Only gigabyte have side LED for 970 is it? I know this may sound silly..but the side LED illuminating the logo is a huge attraction to me.

i'll go for extreme as the ref cooler is not titan cooler sadly

most new games release will still work well with high end gpu.
