Unless you are planning to overclock the 970 like a nutcase, get the Strix. That ridiculous cooler on the Zotac Omega is a turn off, IMO.
*
well good thing is i have tons of space to work with, i don't have a windowed side panel so the looks doesn't really matter to me. just that the cooler is really huge and ridiculous like you said, will it sag?

Not exactly sure on the weight of the Zotac, but there's probably going to be a bit of sagging.

thanks for the input, gonna be hard choosing these 2 since zotac carries extra 2 years of warranty smile.gif

My current card have hardware issues now, so need a replacement. Thought of getting MSI 970, I really like that card, the performance and design. But now after I saw that problem with the fan, I'm not sure if I want to risk getting MSI. If I end up have to RMA, then I wont have any card for gaming again.  sweat.gif

BTW is this new card widely available already? I check the garage sales section here, seems like only 1 or 2 seller is listing the 980 and 970 cards. Can't find anyone selling ASUS brand. Anyone knows the price for ASUS 970? Thanks
*
price of asus strix 970 so far rm1399, might rise due to our currency fluctuation. hmm.gif , can take a look at techview's thread.

Make sure you install the latest driver from nvidia site.

already did that and seems like it went back to normal after i minimized everything and did absolutely nothing, now it stays low and no longer spikes. (spiked for a whole hour this noon, probably because i left the browser maximized.)
thanks for your suggestions anyway smile.gif

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Oct 10 2014, 12:01 AM)
2 possibilities.

1) You have hardware acceleration enabled on your browser, even if you aren't on a page with videos, flash ads will still count.
2) Go to your Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Power Management Mode > Set to Prefer Maximum Performance.

Previously in 32x up to 33x drivers, there was a bug in the drivers where browsers that has hardware acceleration enabled will cause the GPU (particularly for Kepler cards) to spike for no reason at all despite not having any content played. I have not encountered the issue in 344.16 yet though.
*
thanks for the advice, though i can't seem to find this power management in the settings, i'm on the latest driver.

Oh man, so tempted to sell my newly purchased 760 for the 970.

Since the 960 has been delayed, I wonder if this is the best time to sell it.

Prices for 2nd hand 680/770 dropped to RM700 range and 290 to RM850 range in SG. 280x can now be purchased for as low as RM500 with 1 year warranty left in SG.
*
rm500 wow.. now that's cheap. sell your 760 here and purchase 770/780 in sg tongue.gif

Cheap..cheaper than thw Zotac GTX970.

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-970-4GD...l#hero-overview
*
Can't convert that way right.. haha. for some reason zotac prices here are closer to US price.
Zotac 970 - $329.99 = rm1199
Zotac 970 amp omega $379.99 = rm1349
Zotac 970 amp extreme $409.99 = rm1499

msi's are heavily marked up though/
MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G 970 - $349.99 = rm1499

my guess is we are probably expecting rm1349 ~ rm1449 for the new MSI GTX-970-4GD5T-OC here which is $339.99.

I ran unigine heaven with my zotac 970 omega and max temp reaches 79c on default factory oc. Isn't that a little high? Kinda regret my purchase :/ . I heard Asus MSI and gigabyte stays well below 70c.

79c sounds a little high for Maxwell. I even mean a reference 980 only reaches 80c after a mild overclock.

Check your fan speed. If it's low you can ramp it up manually so it run cooler
*
i tried ramping up the fan speed to around 2.3k rpm which is 76% of its max speed and only manage to bring it down to 76c. at auto it reaches 79c with 67% fan speed.

edit: tried 83% fan and still 76c. oh well sad.gif

I think modern GPU have auto temperature limit, so don't worry if it gets abit high temp, it will auto control the boost speed. Your room have aircond or not?
*
my rig is in the living room so.. no aircond, but i ran the tests at midnight 12am and 7am in the morning. rooms temp shouldn't be that high.

QUOTE(sai86 @ Oct 12 2014, 08:29 AM)
snap a pic of your rig. how is your cable mgmt? airflow of your casing?
*
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i'm using a corsair carbide 400r. with stock fans 2 intake at the front and 1 exhaust, do you think that cables will be a problem for airflow? gonna organise it. (i can add a side fan if needed.)

QUOTE(Hornet @ Oct 12 2014, 02:01 PM)
Yeah airflow is very important. These custom coolers dumps all the hot air in the casing, so we need sufficient airflow to quickly circulate the hot air out.
*
i see hmm.gif . i did read that the amp omega doesn't direct hot air out of the case through the front vents so maybe i'll have to add a side intake fan, will that help?

QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Oct 12 2014, 04:56 PM)
Actually, your temperature is pretty fine. Nothing to worry of. As Najmods mentioned above, it is the default temperature target where the GPU will boost as high as allowable within that defined temperature target. And Zotac cards somehow tend to hover a little on the 80C range, myself having personally tested the older 760 AMP and 780 AMP. Asus, MSI and Gigabyte tends to excel more in this area as their cooling solution used is usually superior than the one found on Zotac. But then again, this is just a minor setback and I personally find nothing wrong with it at all.
*
okay, thanks for the info. at what temps should i be worrying? because at this point i'm worried that i can't even oc much because of the temps. the factory oc out of the box is slower than msi, asus, giga and palit's offering while being hotter at the same time. sweat.gif

From your photo you definitely need to reroute all the cables. Goldfries did a test between neat cable management vs messy one before, and the temperature drop was 2-3C on his test.

Carbide 400r provides cable manegement by hiding the cables behind the motherboard. Try reroute your PSU cables behind it and see if it's long enough. I helped my friend to route his Carbide 330r, Corsair's casing is easy to do cable managements.

You can also play around with the fans, such as change the rear fan to 140mm, add some fans in the front of the casing in the case you haven't put all of it yet, and you can add some exhaust fans on top of the casing too.
*
QUOTE(raydenex @ Oct 12 2014, 08:59 PM)
your cables look...  sweat.gif
I would suggest you turn your PSU around with the fan face downwards too.
*
QUOTE(sai86 @ Oct 12 2014, 09:01 PM)
+1. psu fan face downwards.
*
QUOTE(Hornet @ Oct 12 2014, 09:08 PM)
Firstly, I think the PSU should be facing down. The casing have opening below for the PSU to take in air from under the casing. This ensure that the graphic card have sufficient air for itself.

Personally, I would prefer to add more outlet fan at the top to ensure air is always flowing up and out. This IMO, will ensure that as the hot air comes out of the side of the graphic card, it will always go up due to the exhaust fans at the top. Air will automatically come into your casing due to pressure difference, but I prefer to focus on exhaust fan to ensure I can control where the hot air will go out.
*
QUOTE(antaras @ Oct 12 2014, 09:15 PM)
Actually the fan facing inside is better for exhausting hot air. The fan is sucking the hot air from the GPU and exhausting it out the rear.

Anyway, it's always better to keep a tidy cabling route. Then you should add some exhaust fan up top. Hot air raise up. So, adding a couple of fans there will help.
*
guys thanks for all the suggestions, i re-route all the cables and turned the psu facing downwards. guess i'll add fans later on.
temps are unchanged so i guess this is due to the surrounding temps, i don't have an aircond. and i will probably replace the thermal paste in the future to see if it helps. smile.gif

guys, wta about zotac and gainward brand for the gtx 970. how is the card performed? any coil whine? is it a good brand? temperature? noise? been googling these 2 brand and cant find the review. thanks
*
Using zotac 970 amp omega, so far no issues but temp is definitely on the higher side compared to other brands but nothing to worry about. (not aircond room)

Noise is quiet during idle and does fairly well under load. (the card under load is quiet compared to sapphire 6870 on idle)

No coil whines in any games i've played so far except for when i'm exiting unigine heaven 4.0.

I'm interested in how zotac will honour its 2 years extended warranty after the 3 years local warranty expires. hmm.gif
