Thanks for the reply. in other words, I just don't touch it, right? Noob here.

its automated by default for GTX600 series and above cards

with tools like MSi Afterburner, EVGA Precision X etc, you can tweak settings. but the default is more than sufficient

i tried recording a gameplay of Shadow Of Mordor, but seems like the logo of Shadowplay have a red strike on it

cant manually record either (i always set it to auto record whenever i game so i can capture any thing should i see fit)

not good combo.

upgrade your CPU soon.

my Core i5 760 on stock bottlenecks even the AMD R9 280X on Full HD. I had to OC it to some 3.2ghz onwards just to barely close the gap (a frame or 2).
*
would this be the same for i7 920? hmm.gif

perhaps i should advice my friend for an upgrade

QUOTE(reconvision @ Oct 21 2014, 08:02 AM)
Anyone hv msi gtx 970 bending in their rig? First time encounter such problem.
*
well, its not the first time heavy cards sag inside rigs

try alleviate the sag by making a makeshift lift to hold the card in place properly?

QUOTE(empire23 @ Oct 21 2014, 02:29 PM)
Ok wat. I've played the game till the final mission and left it as it is because I had to go away for work.

Running it on ultra on a R9 290x with a little bit of OC seems to be enough for me. Tolerable enough for me not to install both my GTX 980s and just continue playing.
*
im on 3GB 780, mostly played on High. with Ultra, i CAN CTD due to lack of VRAM. the times when it didnt CTD, FPS fluctuate like roller coaster

def not recommended unless 4GB or more

Not sure is it because of MSI skipping on the back plate. So far my Strix 970 is holding nicely.
*
my friend with ASUS GTX670 with backplate still has a slight sag

sag cant be fully countered i guess

i read a review where backplate doesnt do anything to sag but it helps the PCB from flexing only

yeah, the clock speed matters.

the new generation like Sandy / Ivy / Haswell series are a lot faster, when it comes to base and TB speed.
*
well i guess he have a good excuse for an upgrade now laugh.gif

i wanted to upgrade as well, but in terms of gaming perf, my i5 2500 is still nowhere near outdated. so cant really justify the splurge

reconvision as for the sag topic, you really cant do much afaik.

good news is, your GPU PCB doesnt flex due to backplate

bad news is, your GPU will forever senget laugh.gif

unless you feel like buying this

yeap. but i wonder what DSR bought to us and the impact on the performance.
nvm, its just Down-sampling with nicer nick doh.gif
read few comment and user with below 780 unable to activate the dsr hmm.gif
*
tried one game with DSR, Tomb Raider 2013, i really dont see much diff as compared to my previous force downsampling method

granted its much easier to just do it on Geforce Experience than manually tweaking the resolution option i previously did

but the choices are.. 1.2x, 1.5x, 2.0x, 3.0x, 4.0x sweat.gif

why not let us manually set?

and oh, when going Shift Tab in Steam, the same problem still applies. tiny chat windows

btw.. im confusing selecting the dsr factors  rclxub.gif need help here  icon_question.gif

edit : some of my games look blurry
*
depends on your native resolution. 1.8x = 2560x1440

4.0x = UHD, 3840x2160

which game look blurry? try remove motion blur first and test again

Using zotac 970 amp omega, so far no issues but temp is definitely on the higher side compared to other brands but nothing to worry about. (not aircond room)

Noise is quiet during idle and does fairly well under load. (the card under load is quiet compared to sapphire 6870 on idle)

No coil whines in any games i've played so far except for when i'm exiting unigine heaven 4.0.

I'm interested in how zotac will honour its 2 years extended warranty after the 3 years local warranty expires.  hmm.gif

by the time 3 years ended, time to buy new card dee laugh.gif

it depends really

if devs released uncompressed textures for fun like Shadow Of Mordor.. then 4GB isnt enough

but that doesnt mean good too, means devs is crap at compressing the textures to acceptable levels sweat.gif

so now you are saying that why games today suddenly surge over 10-20GB plus in sizes from the standard 4GB sizes 10 years ago is because of uncompressing textures? ohmy.gif
*
kinda, since Xbone and PS4 now can read BD drives already (PS3 already can long time ago)

so devs dont bother compressing files anymore

rmb payday 2? first day on launch, download size 26GB

after they compress, 6GB installer file doh.gif

what sorcery

QUOTE(Minecrafter @ Nov 1 2014, 10:13 AM)
Then 4GB isn't enough? sweat.gif I'm fine not playing with AA MsxAa Or whatever it's called. tongue.gif
*
technically with PS4 VRAM buffer or 8GB, (less OS cost) will give you back abt 6GB+ of VRAM

so as long as your cards have 6GB, its sufficient to last

or as long as devs dont spam uncompressed stuff

Got my Gainward 970 reference.
Quick question: I know that the housing is made of plastic, and when I first turned my pc on yesterday, it had the slight hint of "burnt plastic", and I THINK its coming from the gc because I could vaguely smell it coming from the card when I first opened it in its packaging. Its more obvious now when its running.

Is this normal ? Anyone with the Gainward 970 reference can testify here ?
Maybe its "new hardware" so need to wait before the smell goes away by itself ?

No problems in games though, temps hovering around 50-60. Tried dota 2 so far, and redownloading battlefield 4 and Metro Last Light now. smile.gif
*
you sure you didnt mistaken the smell as fresh electronic smell instead? (though burnt plastic smell is very obvious)

check to see if you did remove all the plastic films on the GPU

50-60C not enough to burn plastic afaik

after 2 months of intensive testing,,,i have finally convinced the 770 will choke like crap at 1440p in all HIGH/ULTRA games haha dang it doh.gif rclxub.gif
*
youll need a GTX780/970 for that at least for 1440p

GTX770 still reign surpreme in 1080p though

but as for VRAM issues, im really not sure if devs are actually making an improvement to the amt being used. quite hard to notice the differences between Ultra(6GB VRAM req) and High(3GB VRAM req) for SOM, even with me attempting to crudely zoom in to see

wouldnt recommend though

80+ only? no Bronze etc?

you should be able to power it up, but under max load you might struggle

GTX980 eats very lil power compared to 780 Ti

Hmm... since DSR was introduced into the drivers, I have been trying some of my current games to use 4k resolution; thus far only "F1 2014" (benchmark at 1080p: average 101fps, at 4k: average 40fps) and "Diablo III" the smoothest.

Recently tried 4k on "CoD: AW", it almost does it, but there is a constant 'loading'; possibly due to my 680's 2G memory buffer limitation, it is however smooth sailing at 1080p.

Here's hoping that the upcoming 970/980 with higher VRAM would be (finally) be a worthwhile upgrade to my 680 2G.
*
how does your GTX680 with 2GB VRAM perform for CODAW?

mine was constantly being bombarded with 'Windows have detected you do not have enough memory bla bla"

crashes CODAW afterwards

and how long does it took for you to load a map?

At 1920x1080 FXAA, it runs exceptionally well, can say no major hitches or slowdowns of any kind. "Shader Preload" Turned On and "Shader Preload During Cinematics" Turned Off, the rest turned maximum / Turned on. Load time about average 2 minutes (4k resolution, haven't check time for 1080p). Memory usage close to 5.0Gb RAM during 4k gaming  sweat.gif  My system is i7-870 4Ghz, 8Gb mem, Palit Jetstrm 680 2G.

Crashes? Hmm... not really. I don't get that not enough memory issue as well. Perhaps you need to update graphics driver (344.60).
*
im on 344.60, which is why im partially confused (my copy of CODAW isnt legit as well, that might be the prob too)

same for me at 1080p, except on SMAA 2x and SSAA 2x with me disabling the shader preload etc etc. my load times are nasty as well too. 1-3mins (i notice the loading bar stops halfway when cutscene is still running, is this the curse of Max Payne 3?)

5GB used isnt much for system memory, mine reached 8+GB sweat.gif granted i have 10 Chrome tabs on with other things (without game, im already eating 6.1GB)

my GPU VRAM was screaming on load though, GPU-Z shows its consuming 2.9-3GB VRAM hmm.gif

dear friends, thanks for the feedback.

I won't buy gsync monitor. no money.

so means I have to v sync. is it better to choose adaptive vsync in Nvidia experience or in game?

repeat question: is there a way to force my card to display only at 60fps?

thank you in advance.
*
Adaptive Vsync is better than standard VSync

but imo, theyre the same anyway

force your card to display only 60FPS? either setting FPS limit using GPU monitoring software like EVGA Precision X or in-game settings
