Nokia X is an android phone but it is also not truly an android phone at the same time. It is better to consider Nokia X a hybrid of android, windows and asha OS. Nokia X's OS sets it apart from any other android smartphones. The colourful tiles and fast lane is unique. Furthermore, it has a catchy design and attractive back covers. What do you guys think about this phone? Is the X OS better or do you prefer the usual vanilla android?

Hope that I will get a Nokia X, I intend to give this Nokia X to my brother who is going to university. He is currently using Nokia 101, a feature phone. I know that Nokia X is a great entry level smartphone for everyday task. That's why I want to get it for my brother. Hope storekini can fulfill my wish too.

Does anyone know whether Nokia X in Malaysia support Here Maps and Nokia MixRadio too? It will be awesome if Nokia X supports these cool feature.

What colour would you guys choose for Nokia X? Would you guys choose the colourful, bright, and players colours like red, green or blue to stand out above the rest or would you rather choose a black back cover to match with the front of it which exude a serious and more business-like feel to the phone.

Nokia X is really an affordable smartphone packed with lots of feature. But it is not perfect in every aspect. I would like to list out the pros and cons of this device.
Pros
- cheap at RM399.
- great design inspired from lumia and asha series.
- exchangable back cover to suit every one's preferences.
- preloaded with awesome Nokia services such as Here Maps and Nokia MixRadio.
- battery life that last a full day with moderate use.
- fairly large 4 inch screen (same as iPhone 5/5s. A decent PPI of 233
- Double tap to wake and glance screen ( This is a very COOL feature that only high end lumia phones used to have, though asha series have them too)
- It is an 'android phone'. XD. Meaning there are tons of apps waiting for you to download.
- Fastlane ( a unique home screen which show your activities in the past, present and future)
- Has microSD card slot
- Nokia X operating system (depends on a person's preference, might be considered as con)

Cons
- only 512 MB of ram, means that the OS might be sluggish if running some heavy task.
- only 4gb of internal storage.
- no front facing camera, rear camera is only fixed focused 3.15MP. But at this price point, it is great to have a camera.
- For android fans, there are no play store or google apps, you have to sideload them somehow.
- No gorilla glass or scratch resistant glass for the screen. I mean like even the asha 503 has it, so why not?
- Nokia X operating system (depends on a person's preference, might be considered as pro)

There u go guys. Please give out your thoughts.

Actually 512mb ram is sufficient to play most games found in nokia store. In fact, asphalt 8 runs without noticeable lag on nokia x.

Regarding 4gb, i have many games and apps installed and yet i still have storage for more...

Basically the cons are not the weakness, you just need to explore further or own this gadget in order to get what i mean here. Try it and you will know... thumbup.gif

Wow! Asphalt 8 runs great on Nokia X. I will surely try it out if I have a Nokia X. Regarding the internal memory, I believe only about 2.3 GB is accessible. For someone like me who watch videos and listen to music, a microSD card is a must. Lol.

Hey guys, for those loyal lowyat readers who are always up to date with the website's latest post (referring to myself XD), you guys should know that Asus is going to release the Asus Zenfone series to Malaysian market at the end of April 2014. The Asus Zenfone series comprises of Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5, Zenfone 6 which cost RM299, RM599 and RM899. The Asus Zenfone 4 JUST COST RM299. No kidding here. Just RM299, cheaper than the Nokia X by RM100. I will just roughly cover the specs of Zenfone 4 here. Specs: 4 inch WVGA screen with gorilla glass 3, dual micro-sim, 8 Gigs of internal storage which can be bolstered by micro sd card up to 64 Gigs of storage. It has 1 Gig of RAM and is powered by Intel Z2520 1.2 GHz Dual core. It is currently working on android 4.3 jelly bean with zen ui which will be updated to android 4.4 kit kat in the future. It sports a 5 MP camera without flash on the rear and a 0.3 MP front facing camera. So what do u say guys, will this new phone be a serious competitor to the android powered Nokia X in the budget market segment? Will you buy the Nokia X or the Asus Zenfone 4? (I will posting a comparison of Nokia X and Asus Zenfone 4 in a few days)

I scanned the specs for Asus Zen phone 4 copied it from NDTV Gadgets :

Asus ZenFone 4 sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) resolution display supported by a dual-core 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 processor with Quad-Thread Hyper-Threading Technology and 1GB of RAM. The smartphone also features a 5-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera optics. The internal storage is not mentioned by the firm but it can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.

All is very similar to Nokia X . Except it has 1GB of ram and Nokia X has only 512mb. Intel Hyperthreading on desktop means the system sees a Quad core processor although it is in fact only a Dual Core Processor.

To summerize :

1. Nokia X : 512MB ram ; AZ4 : 1GB ram
2. Nokia X : Dual Sim ; AZ 4 : Single sim
3. Nokia X : Running Android ASOP . Dont support Play Store and Google Services Out of the box.
AZ4      : Running ZenUI skin on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean , upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat. Support
all google services out of the box.

Price both around RM350 .

Being a ex owner of Nokia X myself . Choose wisely sweat.gif

In Malaysia, The Asus Zenfone 4 is dual sim too, and it has 8 GB of internal storage. Asus Zenfone 4 is priced at RM299 while Nokia X is priced at RM399. It is a tough choice to choose between this two. sad.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

The Asus zenfone 4 is totally a serious competitor to the Nokia X. It is undeniable that the specs of zenfone 4 is better than Nokia X. But most importantly zenfone 4 is cheaper than Nokia X by RM100. However as a Nokia device, the Nokia X has two premium apps which are Here Maps and Nokia MixRadio. Nokia X has an integrated GPS receiver and the Here Maps app offers free, life time voice guided-navigation and OFFLINE navigation which is something google maps doesn't provide. MixRadio is also an excellent service provided by nokia. You can even save music playlist for offline listening. Does these two premium apps have the ability to justify the RM100 difference between Nokia X and Asus Zenfone 4? What do you guys think? For those who own Nokia X, please share out your experience with Here Maps and MixRadio.

Guys, this is a nokia x thread and pls stop discussing other model phone here. If you want, you may go to the dedicated model phone thread to discuss it. Thanks for utmost cooperation. Enjoy your nokia x....

I hope that this is a misunderstanding. I am not really discussing other phone model in this thread. I am just comparing these two phones a bit. I am just trying to figure out what are the great features of Nokia X which surpasses the Asus Zenfone 4 particularly the Here Maps and MixRadio apps. Sorry sad.gif

I have been dying to try out Nokia X - the first android smartphone made by Nokia. But sadly I don't have that much money. I am just a student who receive RM4 pocket money per day. T-T

why model of phone are you using now?

I am using samsung galaxy y. My phone has dead pixel which is about 1/4 of the screen which makes it quite unusable, I can still call, but I can't see 1/4 of my screen which is on the top of the screen where most of the dead pixels are located. I really hope that I can get nokia X form store kini. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Here is a very holistic and complete review of Nokia X from the website Unleash The Phone http://unleashthephones.com/2014/03/14/nokia-x-review/
Here is the video review if you prefer it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r_n8Dri1p0
To sum up the review:
While the Nokia X does run Android, it’s UI looks and behaves completely differently, in strong contrast compared to your average Android experience. As such, most users buying the Nokia X “because it runs Android” might be a little put off by the UI. And it’s definitely not meant for powerusers. At the end of the day, the Nokia X is a well constructed smartphone that has an straightforward UI, a nice display and integration with Microsoft’s services, Nokia’s Maps and Music services, as well as a lot more apps than Windows Phones currently have.

By the way, anyone knows how to embed videos on forums?
