After much heavy rumor, Nokia has just announced that it's launching its first Android handsets: the X, X+ and XL.

All the phones are built on the open source Android OS forked especially for Nokia. The X and X+ feature a 4-inch screen, while the XL packs a 5-inch IPS display. The X+ is differentiated from the X by extra memory and expandable storage, though it's not clear quite what that means in terms of specs.

During the Mobile World Congress presentation, Steve Elop explained that users will "benefit from the Android apps and ecosystem, but we have differentiated." Essentially that means that there will plenty of Microsoft and Nokia apps included from the get go. Skype, for instance, will be preinstalled, and offer users 1 month of free calls to landlines and mobiles, and Nokia's navigation apps will feature, too.

More importantly, the phones take people to Microsoft's cloud, not Google's. Indeed, it seems Nokia is distancing itself from Google as much as possible with these Android devices, and Elop went as far as saying that the "Nokia X together with Lumia represents a deliberate strategy to leverage Microsoft services." There will, though, be plenty—"hundreds of thousands at launch," apparently—of conventional Android apps available through a Nokia-specific app store.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the UI of the X range looks like a blend of Windows Phone and Android: there's a glance screen just like the company's Windows Phone models, and colorful tile-like home screen where apps sit in brightly colored bars. But there's the same familiar Android notification bar across the top, and some subtly tweaked folders and widgets that mirror Google's OS, too.

Interestingly, despite the Microsoft focus, you will be able to sideload apps—including those made by Google, in fact, any APK—though some may, apparently, need recompiling to run properly on Nokia's forked version of the OS.

Price, you ask? Well, Steve Elop was keen to point out that the X range is designed to be more affordable than the Lumia range, both now and in the the future. The phone will be "broadly available globally", starting in growth markets, and they'll cost $125 for the X, $135 for the X+, and $150 for the XL.

They're certainly cheap, then. But with no description of the guts lurking within these phones just yet, it's hard to say whether that represents good value or not. Let's wait and see when we get our hands on one.[IMG]

I think I will get one XL as a testing and play around.
For Real business, will get when it decide to have a flagship model
PureView + ARMOLED.

Since I am using Windows Phone, This UI is fine and this is just android with "Microsoft Service" instead of "Google Service" . Well it will be easy for me to just load in my Microsoft Account Contact and no longer need to import and export between Google .
*
After so many years even microsoft cant get their WP right so especially these conflict between microsoft and google service will take forever. I will get a Nokia Android when they have pureview as 2nd phone and not first.

It's officially stated that this series of phones is aim to convert android user to window phone..

as expected, the grand plan from Elop the Trojan Horse. another trojan horse.. cool2.gif

Won't work la nokia famous for launching and killing it later

Look what happen to symbian, meego and if you look at nokia X the UI looks like windows phone but the quality it's bad.

If They don't use Google play they will die because developer will always update and put their apps to the store with popular demand first or traffic. For Low end it's okay

My opinion I suggest u don't wait even their windows phone until to date so much issue do you think they can do a good job on another OS

but some of microsoft/nokia service is better than google like GPS/mail. Apps i think wont be too much different since microsoft said will cover about 70% of google play apps(filtered i guess). Myself is lumia 1520 user, sometimes just feel frustrated with windows store apps because some of them really sux . Other than that, i'm feel good with it.

If u use nokia maps often u will know their maps always outdated. Try waze it needs a little data but give you tons of features and optiona

No doubt the waze is better, but right now i think we are comparing services provided by microsoft/nokia and google, so 3rd party apps is out.
Windows waze still buggy when i use last time, battery still draining alot, recently it got new update but haven try it yet.
*
On android it's excellent I use it everyday. Since then I don't use nokia drive anymore. Even roads close yesterday someone updated it next day.

I mean u compare u compare the best if not don't tell because of microsoft services u die die also use right. Like Google I don't use Google maps but waze been bought over by google

So nokia wont make a flagship android phone, they just wont because when you think about it... If they do, they literally kill their onw baby the WP os....just think about it, if there is android high spec nokia phone, whos gonna buy the wp line...just just forget about flagship android nokia phone...the best you can get was this nokia x, forever gonna be mid low end nokia android phone...just my 2cent..

Not necessary nokia have one thing every user been wishing forever its their camera performance.

Every manufacturer as of today have tons of awesome imaging names but non of them output as good as nokia with Carl zeiss.

They also have the best offline navigation it's also another key feature in mobile phone today.

For Windows phone to become popular it will take a very long time because most developer thinks wp is minority.

The only part they fail is marketing and making wise decision.
If u see nokia time line they very in consistence making wise decision most of their decision make nokia lose money.

If nokia decides to use back play store, with 41mp Carl zeiss I bet many from other brands will get it nokia android.

Nokia have never learn their lesson until today fix the OS properly then focus on other things but while leaving wp in bugs and problems they focus on something else like android nokia.

I have no doubt nokia camera with carl optic is superior than any other cameraphone, but nowdays most highend flagship phone can deliver quite decent photo already...majority of ppl prefer android or ios over carl ziess...most ppl mindset if wanna a get a better photo quality then they should get a proper dslr camera...the problem now is wp...which i dont think microsoft gonna let nokia built an android flagship...that surely gonna kill their wp line, if can get flagship nokia hardware carl ziess with android, why would anybody get the wp ver instead...so its safe to say nokia wont make a flagship android phone...best we can get is this X which was middle end spec...
*
Other manufacturer i agree but for Nokia maybe not they have let 2 OSes to die symbian and meego and remember this two OS was nokia flag ship. It also wont be a surprise if they let WP die as well out of sudden.

Maybe they are just testing out WP and later find out its better just to hook on android just have your finger crossed
