DVD ripper basically is to extract the vob files out of the DVD
From there you can encode it to MPEG4 video files with containers like .avi and etc

if u want to keep the dvd file in your pc, the size is way too big, 4gb for a movie, but if u convert to avi, the file is quite small around 800mb a movie, anyway what the point u ask this?? later don't ask why people want to save movie in their pc

I've read through Wikipedia's explanation on ripping and it's pretty straighforward.

And no Atlantis, it won't make the picture quality nicer smile.gif

Compression bro...

Actually the movies you got in DVDs are compressed files too in the MPEG2 format
Try go lossless and you will get the real thing smile.gif

About DVD quality will be better <----- not necessary, some DVD videos sucks eventhough its original. Bad telecine, add grain just to increase bitrate to the video and etc
