I have been searching around, googling, some says vertical is more cooling, some say horizontal is a better choice since more ventilation.

Would like to know what choice have you choosed.
Let us know which choice you think is better.

Thanks

vertical. more surface area to be cooled down by the surrounding air.

if horizontal, a huge amount of surface area is wasted facing down.

this is my opinion.

i always thought it would be better to put it horizontally, but then i realise my PC has been standing vertically all these while, so why not put it vertically too laugh.gif

I don't know if anyone noticed but placing the console vertical will make the fans spin louder. Not to mention, one side of the vents covered even with a stand.

Vertical, using the Sony vertical stand. Sony's stand has proper ventilation - there are holes along the base for the vertical stand. Didn't notice any unusual fan noise.

PS4 was designed to be placed vertical or horizontal, so I have no worries.

The real answer is simple: put it however you want, vertical or horizontal.

Mind blown right?

It's a console, not a baby.
And if you want the scientific answer, the difference between horizontal and vertical is the temperature on the hottest part of the PS4 (the underside where the power plug goes in) is a mere 1-4c at the highest load.

So in theory, yes the horizontal position is slightly cooler but by only 1-4c. So... difference is there, but it matters not.

I've done the temp tests with a digital lab thermo. It's not accurate, but the temperature scales accordingly. Horizontal is cooler on paper, but it's so insignificant that it doesn't even matter.

Thanks for all the anwser

Now i wanna put it vertical
Been using horizontal this while and the dust at the shiny ps4 is really crazy

I just notice one thing

If ps3 vertical the front is going to be on the left which i prefer
But ps4 the front will be on the right? Or any will do..but it will be not good for the glossy part

Well logically speaking, if placing it either horizontal or vertical will allow better airflow, I'm sure Sony will mention it. If there's better airflow when placing it vertically, Sony will definitely hard sell their vertical stand and if it's the other way round, why bother with a vertical stand (unless for space saving reasons).

The console should be designed to be placed either ways so let's just stop worrying on petty issues like this. Either way you place it, just ensure that the vents are not covered and your console should be fine.

P/S: The poll should have another option like "Does not matter".

Dude, the only way you should place the PS4 when in vertical position is like this:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Placing it upside down, where the glossy part is on the bottom WILL SCRATCH YOUR DISC. I'm not kidding.

Instead of buying a vertical stand, why not buy a desk fan?

I use a desk fan and direct it to my ps3 blush.gif to provide the cooling

No temp display for my ps3, but for my xbox, significance difference can be seen

the ventilation holes are at the back and at the side, none at the bottom.

so technically horizontal position is the best.

but the differences can be considered negligible.

its not like ur ps4 gonna get RROD tongue.gif

When I put my ps4 horizontal I realised the fan sound is more noticeable . Anyway still got warranty, so no extreme worries yet.
