Triton VGT should be one of the most powerful SUT available in Malaysia.

The advantage of Hilux over Triton would be the part availability and more OEM replacement parts. Mitsubishi parts are expensive.

GaryKam, he used to own a VGT and now driving a Hilux VNT, he may be the best person to comment in this post.

Triton still better. Hilux always stolen by thieves. My neigbor already went through 3 Hilux in 5 years. All stolen at work. Then, 2 years ago, he bought a Triton and today, still around. I guess not much of demand like DMAX and Navara.

Personally driving a company hilux 2.5 for daily usage , comfortable wise not lose much to my 2.4 harrier 2004 ( from driver feel only )
but fuel consumption it's huge ! almost 11km/liter for hilux , compare to 7km/liter harrier !

btw , that day test drive fren's vnt hilux 2.5 , memang omp ! compare to non Vnt.

Maintainance wise not heavy too , rm280 every 7000km . I think is quite common for pickup .

Just to chip in my 2 cents here since I just purchased a VGT (red is awesome btw) after going through a lot of surveys/test drives/asking around/googling/friends' who have both cars/mechanics advice

Performance : Triton. By a mile... plus, it has added sports mode for that extra control when you do need it. Kind of a best of both worlds situation. I've test driven the 2.5 Hilux and back tire screeching was quite apparent when climbing steep hills. Not so for the Triton. Is it due to power/torque/whatever, I'm not an expert... just stating my experience of driving. I heard the 3.0 Hilux won't have that situation(according to the TOYOTA sales rep)

Comfortable : Seats=Triton; Smooth driving=both are fair; Confidence when overtaking=Triton slight edge; Less Bumpiness=Triton, Less Body Roll=Hilux; Steering handling=both are fair

Safety : Just check their ANCAP rating. I think both are quite fair in that regard.

Maintainance: I heard Hilux more available OEM and accessories. Both are quite HIGH MAINTENANCE... cause hey, they're pick-ups.

Resale : Stock Hilux FTW. No question about it.

FC : My VGT runs at 9.0L/100kms - 10.5L/100kms (according to the meters). Hilux should be similar. I hope after the 1st service, it'll improve.

Handling : Steering=fair; gearbox=fair(maybe slight edge to Hilux); acceleration=Triton; braking=Triton FTW; top speed=Triton; Cruising long distance=Triton

Class & Price :Triton comes bundled with a lot of accessories at a great price. Hilux is pricey for what it provides and many of the things like sports bar/AVN/AVX are optional... the TRD Sports Bar is RM3900!!! Normal sports bar is RM1500. AVN (RM3990!!!) and AVX is RM1500. The Triton VGT comes with everything you see in it. However, at the end of the day... looks are subjective.

Fiuh

p/s: This is purely comparing the Triton VGT (AT) vs Hilux 2.5 AT. I was picking between the VGT and the New TRD Sportivo Hilux.

pp/s: To be honest, there are so many variants of 4x4s now. They are so competitive and are really good all round. I've also seen and surveyed the D-Max VCross, Artic, Ford Ranger 3.2 (red is also delicious), Navara LE, Chevy Colorado (nice rims on that one) and many others.... at the end of the day, it's going to come down to your very specific taste and preference into which feature you value the most and for what function.

The key is to test drive/harass showrooms kau2/take your time to survey or ask around/GOOGLE is your best friend.
Cheers.

Based on your list of requirements go for Triton. Triton VGT uses modern variable geometry turbocharger that eliminates turbo lag, returning more torque at lower end and saves more FC compared to standard old turbocharger. If the Triton VGT still selling at over way RM100k, that means it is overpriced.

If not mistaken, ever since there's Ford Ranger, Hilux launched the FL that comes standard with VGT at RM98k. I would advise you to check out the new upcoming Triton specs & price first before you buy. The Hilux really poor in ferrying cargo, the company I worked for rejected the Hilux offer due to its weak strength, poor handling and weak gearbox. It went for Triton & Ranger that are still running strong today. The Ranger actually better.

I got the Triton VGT for RM7000 rebate + 2 years free service.

I needed a pickup as my old poor Saga BLM was starting to cause issues driving on horrible Sabah roads. I travel more than 150kms everyday on quite harsh road conditions and I needed one quite immediately. So far, it has served me very well and the TBNC Mitsubishi Service Center has been very cooperative and good in their services.

The Hilux is a good car too but it's way more pricey and a lot of the things i.e. roll-bar, AVN/AVX system is optional and doesn't come with the cars' pricetag. Added up, the car costs quite a bit more than the Triton. Of course, they do say the Hilux is a reliable vehicle, I'm not saying it isn't but the Triton too is quite reliable. The year-end discount rate for the Hilux is also not as much as the Triton. I have to say though, the new TRD Sportivo Kit on a Black Hilux does look kinda sick!

Personally, I don't really like the new 2015 Triton's looks. Probably only a few things in the interior that I really like i.e. the electronic selector of the 2WD/4WD mode but I'm not really off-roading that much so it doesn't matter. Most of the things like paddle shifters, interior looks are a matter of aesthetics only... and as far as aesthetics go... I'm damn satisfied with my red VGT. Even worse, it is rumoured that Malaysia will not get the Triton+MIVEC 2.4 Diesel... I think that is the biggest selling point if I were to hold on to my purchase... but alas.... it is going to be fitted with the same 2.5L VGT engine as the one I have now.

The Tritons they got were VGTs or non-VGTs? I have to admit, performance, handling, torque, po-wahhhhh is truly nice... but engine noise on a diesel somehow irks me... since I'm used to quieter engines... hehehe

Currently they display 114k for the top spec.

Launching next month, understood the price will be slightly lower.. around ~112.5k
