Several.. Minix, Himedia, Xiaomi, Wetek, M8S, Nvidia Shield, RPI, Intel NUCs, Amazon's FireTV, Google Nexus Player.. Each with their strengths, weaknesses and pricing.. I suggest you check them out, find which suits your needs & budget.

Anyone experience the problem where video playback will very often have no sound? I have to pause / play (repeat process) until I get sound, which will drop off after 10 minutes or so.

Another issue is a lot of add-ons are incompatible, kept showing the "Do I want to disable the add-on" error ... On first start, I will usually get about 10 ~ 15 of these popups.

Need more info to help narrow down a solution.. Like:
What device?
KODI version? Custom or stock?
If recently upgraded.. How?
Did you install each addons yourself? Retrace steps..
Tried a fresh install or version rollback?

The sound issues is a bit weird.. Using passthrough options? How about connections? Ruled out file's audio issues or hardware & codec incompatibility? No issues using another player? All files gives the same issue or a particular one? Give more info.. Else.. Simply do a complete uninstall, search system for leftovers & delete manually.. Then reinstall stock versions. Starting with the latest: Jarvis, test and if still has issues, work your way down versions.

TV Box - Himedia H8 (OctaCore) - Bought it from a forumer on LYN.

Recently did a fresh install of Isengard

First time - Had the red mute icon on the top right. Uninstalled and reinstalled, the icon was gone. As for add-ons, I've actually downloaded like a zip folder where I just copy/paste all the add-ons in. Link / file shared by the seller.

Connection is sound bar -> HDMI -> TV. Every other apps such as Popcorn / Newest Movie HD are fine with no issues with the sound at all. Only Kodi/XMBC has such issue. When I first got the box, Kodi worked perfectly until I had to reinstall because video playback would suddenly just stop and bounce me back to the selection menu.

So now, the videos won't suddenly stop and bounce me back to the selection menu but instead - videos will just have no sound, which is really annoying. I can try to do a reinstall again but I figured the result will be the same, it might be the add-ons that I installed through the seller's link, lots of incompatible add-ons. Keep getting pop-up saying add on is not compatible, should I deactivate it etc.

Otherwise, can I just do a clean install and install the add-on 1 by 1 myself through XBMC?

i think yr fresh install of isengard cum copy and paste of "zipped addons" is the cause of the incompatibility related problemd.

copy and paste the whole org.xbmc.kodi folder is fine but copy and paste addons..? i have not tried this method.

i suggest u wipe everything clean, reinstall 16.0 jarvis. then put in the repos and addons one by one manually - they will be fresh, updated and compatible with jarvis.

yes, it is a pain to do all that. so, once u get it right, make sure u use es file explorer keep a copy of the org.xbmc.kodi folder in case u need to reinstall again.

Nice of you to provide more info.. Much clearer picture.. I'd go with what AVFAN wrote.. KODI on its own is rock solid, where issues begin are with addon installations & tweaks.. While most addons are written properly, many others aren't or are obsolete, hence incompatibility issues. Hence, it's always best to manually install each skin or addon, and tweak settings. That way, one knows exactly what went in and when, so should an issue occur, it's easier to detect & rollback changes. Oh yeah, make regular backups.

Edit: you already have access to good android streaming apps.. So that's alright.. As for the sound issue, try going into settings to check that all sounds are at maximum. I prefer using the TV/HT remote to adjust volume level.. In case you aren't already, one less thing for the box & KODI to worry about. I've had issues in the past where system & a custom KODI's volume levels clashed. Though the issue was fixed in a later version..

most of the brands that you put up are way above my requirement. I am only using LCD TV and dont plan to upgrade in the coming 2 years.

You asked about a "good" KODI box, a few brands were presented. You were able to filter out which are above your requirements and or budget. However, you don't mention which ones actually "fit" your requirements or a budget, etc.. Well, at least you mentioned Android... No one reads minds here... Here's the Android TV box thread. You may begin there, as there are lots of info publicly available.

To directly answer your last question... I'd say the Minix Neo X8-H Plus or perhaps the newer Minix Neo U1... But then, you'd probably go; "its way above my requirement"..

P.S. Its much easier to get the necessary assistance if one's as specific as possible. Else, one gets a "general" response.

Perhaps looking up on fb "TV box open source" you shall find a seller selling m8s for a mere $270 which I would think it's darn affordable. If that doesn't meet your requirement, then stick to your PC chap

If I do a fresh install of Jarvis, how do I manually install the add-ons such as Genesis or other add-ons 1 by 1? Honestly I only use this one Add-on to watch all my English series (which I can't think of it's name now)

Can I actually find/install add-ons within Jarvis?

Yes you manually install and use every single compatible add-on for Jarvis... There are official and unofficial KODI add-ons...

How to Install Genesis or unofficial addons. While you are at it, the FUSION repository is a solid addition... Lots of decent unofficial add-ons in there.

To install official Add-ons in KODI... System --- Add-ons --- Install from repository --- Kodi Add-on repository... The rest is self-explanatory.
