guys,

does anyone here runs their internet through a VPN? would it improve the streaming in kodi with other sources?

I find even with 30mbps line, most barely can stream even with LQ sources. I know it's alot of trial and error. But will VPN help even with overhead?

thanks.

Yes, you can try a VPN to see if it'll improve. Depending on the VPN service & current system load on the VPN server, you may experience significantly reduced speeds. In that case, try connecting to the next closest server. A 30Mbps line is more than sufficient to stream 1080p.. So not being able to smoothly stream from LQ sources means either of these things...
1. Hardware issues.. Check & rectify.
2. Home network isn't optimal.. Router issues? Using Ethernet or wireless? Ethernet is preffered. If wireless, check for interference such as what's affecting your download speed.. I.e.. Torrents, etc.
3. The streaming source itself.. Some sources are better than others.. Check.
4. TM Unifi.. Since the recent introduction of the Advance 30Mbps plan, users (myself included) have experienced the occasional really slow speeds, mostly during night time.. Can't be helped, just have to call TM & ride it out.

I think the culprit is the source itself. I also use 30Mbps and got no problem streaming 1080p, but it all depend on source..

I was on a defective TPLINK router which caused intermittent connection. Swap to a DDWRT router and boom...connection is good. But the streaming is still choppy on most sources.

I would think it's the sources issue. Problem is...it's PITA to test out each of the source links....select...pusing pusing pusing...takes a minute or two then movie doesn't load. Rinse and repeat for the next 30mins...get frustrated then just find series to watch on iflix or broken Phoenix

also, gonna start looking to get a new player to host Kodi and other movie apps, netflix, iflix and others. I hate to ask this, anything to recommend with range of RM300 - 500?

One of the reasons to invest in a decent router & not just a cheap one.. I wouldn't joke around with such an important device.. Also you should check out the Minix Neo U1 + Neo A2 airmouse.

i assure you the problem is the source!

becos 30mbps can give you consistently on NETFLIX:

.. uhd 4k video.
.. dolby digital 5.1 audio.
.. wifi, assuming a decent router and within a short distance.
.. no need vpn, free or paid.

that's my experience.

i'm iflix and it's always good...netflix malaysia has lesser content compared to it's USA counterpart. But i guess it should suffice.

sure, I'll post into here 1st and added to front page later on.

How to add Malaysia's live streaming channels. Currently 3 channels are not working namely RTM's TV1, TV2 and Al Hijrah.

First step.
1- Install and enable Livestreams from the video add-ons, let it there first.
[attachmentid=3927979]

2. Save this file into any folder, this is a long .xml script inside the spoiler, just copy and paste it at our convenience. Lastly saved as this file ended with .xml, for this we named it as TV.xml
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3. Now right click / or open to configure Livestreams add-ons
[attachmentid=3927997]
what we have to do is similiar to add the source, but this time the source is where the TV.xml located
There are 3 rows of source menu, 1st row select Choose File at Choose Source Type
2nd row, choose file << link it to where your TV.xml located. In my case I keep it inside my /home (linux)
3rd row, name it to what you want it. This is a must.

4. Back to video add-ons, find Livestreams, run it and our list of channels should be there.

bro there is no tab for add source under live stream addon

I don't use the Music menu within KODI, so i'm terribly unfamiliar with its Music library manipulation. However, it makes sense that KODI will allow you to browse for imported tracks via albums, artists, etc... Because KODI is meant to be a media center first, file explorer second. The Video menu having the folder option is probably because most people would more often play videos off an external hard drive, than have it imported into the library. Same concept should apply for the Music menu, so if you've browsed around and its not there, the dev team has their reasons.
*
Ok I wasn't too clear in asking my question. I actually browse from a client device and not within KODI. In KODI it is fine. The 'Files' folder is there and shows the folders as it was added. From the client device, I couldn't see the 'Files' folder.

I tried using a Windows 7 as a client and I can see a 'Files' folder (labeled as Folder) under Music. But when I browse into it, the folders structure got flattened and sorted by Album.

Is there some settings for this?

I updated to Kodi Jarvis in my Android TV box, customised few settings, later restarted the box, the settings were all gone and it reset back to default. >< Anyone facing similar issue?
