hey guys, new to this xbmc/kodi scene. I'm using the MXQ 850 and i just learning the ropes here. Should i upgrade my Kodi from ver1.4 to 1.5 or just stick to version that comes with it and why does the kodi ui display on my 40" tv is to large but when i watch any kind of movie or stream the view looks fine.

Pls provide a picture or 2 showing the "too large" UI & normal view for reference. As for upgrading KODI, that depends on if the pre-installed version is a customised version, in which case, installing the latest KODI version won't affect it's installation, but rather they'll co-exist as separate apps installs. Else, the newer version will obviously overwrite the older one, that will either improve or screw up performance. Not all boxes can run the latest version without issues. So the only way to find out is to go ahead with the install. Finally, if you are satisfied with the currently installed KODI version, then just keep it. If it ain't broke.....

i'll get back on the picture of the kodi display differences. Should i use the gplay function on android or use the player as it it since i primaryly use it for movie and tv show streaming and is the add-on that is listed inside the add-on only or there are plenty of add-on on the web that i can download?

Yeah, pictures help.. What do u mean by gplay function? KODI is a "shell" with its inbuilt player, which frankly is very good (Best in my books). Yeah, there are lots of addons available for install.. Read thru this thread for tips & tricks (plenty here), Google & YouTube as well.

Maybe you can try adding advancedsettings.xml to your kodi. Paste below code into .txt file first. Upon saving it, save as advancedsettings.xml
CODE

<advancedsettings>
<network>
<buffermode> 1 </buffermode>
<readbufferfactor> 2 </readbufferfactor>
<cachemembuffersize> 157286400 </cachemembuffersize>
</network>
</advancedsettings>

I encountered same issue with you. After I add this advancedsettings.xml file to folder "Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/" last night, the issue has gone for now. Before this, the box can't even play 1080p video at all and keep receiving "cache is full etc etc etc". I only managed to test two 1080p movie last night and it works great.

Make sure you have ES file explorer and enable hidden folder as the ".kodi/userdata/" folder in "Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/" is hidden.

I only use WiFi to though. I hope that's help

I refer to below article to set my advancedsettings.xml

SOS

Oh... Yeah, feel free to use the Google Play Store to download KODI and other apps you fancy. Sorry, but the image link leads to a 404 error page (Image missing)... Recheck...

Hmm, guess that's a downside for ya... Try these others.... AutoStart - No root or Autostart and StaY!. There are a bunch more in the Play Store.. So check them out... Personally, I don't care to have any apps autostart, scared if an issue arises, might be difficult to get in and have to reset the box without a backup... No fun!.. Kodi app's icon is right there on my home screen, one click away upon booting.

Seen the images and they look as they should... Normal.. See KODI's GUI was designed as a 10-foot UI..."10 foot" refers to the fact that the GUI's elements—i.e. menus, buttons, text fonts, and so on—are theoretically large enough to read easily at a distance of ten feet from the display (which in this context is your 40" screen TV). Makes sense, as it's a media center. You'll get used to it. As for the 1st image, the much larger icons appear so because that's the default launcher made by the box's manufacturer. You can change the launcher.. Lots of launchers available in the Play Store. Take your pick.

In this case, perhaps the backup addon works best during restore when you restore data to the same kodi version as with the backup, then after successful restore, manually install the updated KODI app, this should update to the next version while retaining previous data.

Tested on tablet & it works..... Granted some of the "MY" channels links don't work.. But most like TV3, NTV7, 8TV are working..
