QUOTE(michael2wk @ May 9 2008, 09:06 AM) Wow...congratulations! Since you have 5 eggs, can barter trade with me one chick later on? Because all 3 lovebird chicks I have are same colour peachfaced Lutino. I would love to have a different mutation colour one. Please......I got my 3 lovebird chicks yesterday. Very young and lots of patience involved to hand feed those chicks though. The food receipe that seller introduced me not welcomed by the chicks, they don't want to eat even they are very hungry, ended up I have to rush out to consult nearby birdshop owner how to handfeed the chicks. Finally bought the Heinz brand babyfood and nestum, and the chicks are much easy to feed like that. Phew.... This post has been edited by Juztiny: May 9 2008, 08:33 PM |

QUOTE(liette` @ May 11 2008, 12:45 AM) Elder one is 2 weeks, younger 2 are less than 2 weeks. But I remembered most of the internet sites mentioned that lovebirds are quite hardy, so should be not so vulnerable as compared to other type of chicks. They will survive for sure, now they are very lively. Another birdshop owner told me to feed cat-food or dog-food, because higher protein can make them grow very fast. So I'm feeding them all 2 birdshops recommended receipes (Heinz babyfood + nestum + dogfood). |

To share some pictures of the Pekin Robin and Mata Puteh. Till today my Pekin Robin still don't want to sing even I played the sound I record from the birdshop. When I bought him that time he was singing in the birdshop though. Mata Puteh do call some short note everyday. It has a tiny body size but can really eat a lot food/veg.

QUOTE(liette` @ May 11 2008, 02:10 AM) was wondering if its possible to tame birds like java sparrows , merbahs and such? in short, birds not from the parrot family. Not easy to tame I believed. Even my Shama & Magpie are tamed, they will not be as tamed as my Cockatiel. At most they will come forward to me when I feed them mealworm or cricket form my hand. The Pekin Robin and Mateh Puteh are not tamed at all, very difficult to calm them down even I just want to change the water or add food into their cage, they will be panicked and flying here & there banged the cage till bleed near nose area. In order not to let them injured further, I try not to get too close to their cage. Like that even harder to get them familiar with us with short period of time. |

QUOTE(adioz88 @ May 11 2008, 04:02 PM) I bought it in Sg. Petani, Kedah. Not easy to find these days, especially recent outbreak of birdflu in overseas. There were 2 birds there, but I saw this one singing and the other one didn't. It is very colourful and good looking bird. |

QUOTE(liette` @ May 14 2008, 10:34 PM) I went to several pet stores and the price for a decent cage surpasses a hundred. Those around RM50 are terribly small and not big enough lengthwise. =/ Recently a lot of cage increased price already. Last time I bought my 3' x 3' x 2' cage around RM70. Now I saw on other shops around RM120. |

All my lovebird chicks getting stronger each day. The elder one now learning to fly, and learn to eat the seed, but of course we still need to handfeed it, because its beak not strong to break the seed yet. Actually what a valuable experience to gain in owning young chicks and hand feeding them.
My Cockatiel is getting demanding, always want to come out from its cage and be close to me. Every time he/she hear my voice around the house, will scream for attention. Like a naughty kid, quite fun but sometimes busy that time will find it a nuisance. |

QUOTE(prophet007 @ May 15 2008, 01:29 AM) wow! what a attitude problem cockatiel! LOL... Maybe you should try ignore him so that he will behave better. Cause it seems he is controlling you. haha. Wow..you meant Budgies fight among Budgies till severely injured like that? I didn't know Budgies can fight so fierce. Last time my 3 Budgies (2 female and 1 male), 2 females fight over one boyfriend, but luckily not like that lor....so envious you can get so close with your birdie. One of my budgies died few days back. I think it was fighting problem. One eye was gone, the cere was a bit bloody and the neck bone broken, making the whole head swing. Damn sad lor. |

QUOTE(prophet007 @ May 15 2008, 01:41 AM) I dont even know if they were fighting. I wish it was fighting and not some cat problems. Cause last time I got a budgie which was severely injured by a cat until half of its wing was gone! He died later on. That was really horrible. The cats even rest on top of the bird cage. Ya...I hate cats, they are very sly! Last time one neighbour's cat dared to come from the roof top and use its paw to disturb my bird cage. I hanged my bird cage near roof cutter, luckily I heard my birds' wings flapping non stopped, and went out to investigate and found that cat is disturbing my bird cage. And I have dogs in my compound some more, the dogs can't help to chase the cat, as it was on the roof.Ever since I put my bird cages where no cats dared to come in to disturb any more. |

QUOTE(michael2wk @ May 15 2008, 03:09 PM) Just now I went to Macaw and bought 2 budgies and 1 Lutino Cockatiel. Although these birds are not tamed, but quite surprise that they are quite calm in a way, when I clipped their wings. Much easy compared to my previous untamed Budgies. I think I could try to tame them especially the Budgies are still pretty young looking. Right now they allow me to touch their body without panicking. The Lutino Cockatiel also looks quite tamable. My naughty tamed Cockatiel is keep disturbing the new Cockatiel. The new bird was so afraid of him. At least tonight my tamed Cockatiel didn't make any noise screaming for our attention, as he has new friends in his cage.
