hello.... anybody has experiences feeding budgie chicks? Ive got a pair of budgies that just started to lay... Currently there're 9 eggs and still counting. I might have to hand feed some of them (maybe when they're a little bit bigger)

Wow..congrats! Hope your lovebird chicks can survive, will the mother knows how to feed the chicks? If not, you will have a very tough time in hand feeding such a tiny chick. Must use syringe, and the food must be very fine only can be push through.

I only know how to tame a Cockatiel. May be the method is more or less the same.

Not sure how young is your bird, the younger it is, the easier to train. I spent the first few days just sitting next to the cage. I took it out for the first time. I used a towel wrap around it, so it won't struggle and fly away. I pet on its head for about 3-5 minutes. And then put it back into its cage. You need to stick with this towel training until it come to realize you mean no harm to it.

It takes time to tame it down, but in order to tame a bird till it will come back to you, unless the bird was raised from a chick. The trust needs to be built over time.

The next stage is to finger training by teaching your bird to perch on a stick or your finger. Gently nudge your finger to the portion of the legs. Repeat this routine until the bird instinctively steps onto your finger.

As with teaching anything, repetition is the key.

thanks for that info, but i already know that. what i need to know is how to train a bird such that you can perch it on your shoulder and walk around outside (fields and such) without it flying away forever

OMG, they are so adorable!!!!

If the hen is capable of feeding, then let her feed them. You can start hand rearing once all their pin feathers are out. Well, this was my way.... if you wanna tame then and have higher survival rate.

I got a book somewhere in my room.... but it is on breeding cockatiels... but I guess it should be similar with the hand rearing part. If you need some info, I can help you look up.

This is the first time my budgies have chicks, I'd just bought the bird 2 months ago. I have no experience rearing chicks, so any helps and tips are welcome.

Can't wait to see them fly..... I hope they all survive... sweat.gif
