Ohh...you are from birds lover family.

My cockatiel is very funny, he would fall down from the stick bar whenever he fell asleep, and he seems like don't know how to climb back up usiing his beak. And he doesn't know how to eat sun flower seed, only eat small seeds and veg.

Now he is getting used to my dogs' presence, and not afraid of them anymore. He is getting naughtier, wouldn't want to stay on our hands, keep on flying to some place to venture itself.

But I read from another website says young or immature male will also show like female stripe, have to wait till its first molt to determine.  This teil is 5 months old, yet to have its first molt.

How come a rat can kill a cockatiel?  You cockatiel is not inside a cage at night? My cocker spaniels see the birds, will go crazy over the birds.  I have to be very careful with them.  I need to hold the bird on one hand, and another hand hold a cane.  My dogs are scared of the cane.

How to take care of a Cockatiel?  Does it need to bath every morning and need morning sun as well?  How come my Cocktatiel doesn't know how to eat sunflower seed?

Added on April 26, 2008, 5:12 pmToday I went to Macaw Pet Trading in the Tasik Selatan, saw a 3 tamed Cockatiel for sale, (2 Lutino and 1 Pied/Pearl).  Very expensive the Lutino is selling for RM300 each, and the condition of the bird not very healthy looking and not as tame as compared to the one I bought yesterday.  So I didn't buy from there.

In fact many birds species in there. And quite surprise to see so many young ferret for sale there too.  But the condition of the ferret very kesian, crowded in the tank.

I saw 2 San Hu for sale, but no sound one.  So didn't dared to buy, quite costly RM250 each.

Anyone have any idea in keeping Java sparrow?  Can Java sparrow share the same cage with Gouldian finches?  I like both colourful looks, am thinking to keep a few of them in future.

Oh, 5 months old.... bet you can't wait for it to molt. Sorry, I thought it was older coz the crest looks so high already.

All my birds are kept indoors. One day a rat decided to steal food from my cockatiel's cage. Then I think my tiel put up a fight, so what happened was the rat won, chewed up my tiel's feet and wings..... not a pretty sight for a 12 year old. I was 12 back then, woke up in the morning to see such a sight, blood on the walls and all over the cage. Could see it was a rat coz got some rat paw marks on the newspaper....

If you got your tiel from a breeder, then the eating habits are better. Both my greys are picky eaters, only want to eat seeds and kuaci. My white face is different, she would eat green leafy veggies readily as well as her seeds. I'm hoping my 2 greys would pick up the good habit from the white face.

Cockatiels do have dusty feathers... it's their skin lah, it's dusty just like cockatoos. Some morning sun and also light misting is enough. You can do it daily. Since my cage is so big and indoors, I do it weekly....

It's crazy to keep birds indoors...

But I will keep my birds indoor at night, scared of neighbourhood stray cats. Some stray cats are not afraid of my dogs, furthermore my beagle is a deep sleeper, she wouldn't jaga the house at night.

How did your tiel died? Old age or sickness?

I'm thinking for keeping some cheap budgies to accompany my tiels in big cage, not sure will the tiels learn the bad things from untamed budgies or not.

I think for me it was luck last time.... and could be coz of the faulty window.... now house is rat free.... well, wild rat free coz I got plenty of rodents indoors LOL.

Last time I kept budgies outdoors..... then neighbour's cat killed one and injured 2.... so we learnt from that. It didn't happen at night, it was during the day. So now all the birds are kept indoors.... I guess we sudah takut hahahh.

Your lovebirds can wolf whistle? Wahhhhh..... my brother's lovebirds are damn freaking noisy! Chit chit chit.... all Fischer's lovebirds. The parent birds died, but they left us with 7 noisy offspring.... None could mimic other sounds.... even my budgie, which I think could be an English doesn't really pick up tunes. The budgie was found, a lost bird that flew into my dad's office compound. Semi tame only.

The only bird that mimics tunes well are the mynah and african grey at home.

well depend on individual bird for talkin or mimic.
i train my lovebirds from young. keep repeat whistle wit them in the toilet.
1 at each time. small compound easier to bond. didnt expect it to breed thru.
once in awhile will bring the male to office, hes much more tamer then the female.
but the female more smarted but bites hards.

how the 2 offspring seperated from the parent learn to wolf whistle 2.
even teach my eng buggies to whistle.

can tell u when in the living hall, all of them make hell lotsa noise la.
my wife gonna kill me soon if i not gonna built an outdoor aviery.
pening dy la. somemore laying eggs now. double pening la.

My tiels are bonded adults, so they won't wanna layan me. I can whistle with the male.... well, tiel whistle, he wouldn't mimic the wolf whistle so I always whistle with him the normal tiel tune. If you have a young bird, it can be train to mimic. For tiel, my females don't whistle... only the male. That's why I'm looking for another male, a tame one to train.

Budgie was a lost and found one.... it wouldn't mimic us hahahah.... I only have 1 budgie.

Lovebirds, my brother never train....

True.

I'm only interested in tiels, so I bought an adult pair for breeding so I can tame the offspring.... but the adults are bad parents coz everytime got chick, sure die.

The bird lover in my family is my bro.... with his Afican grey lah.... lovebirds.... then my dad has his evil mynah.... why I call it evil? Coz it wants to peck me all the time. But with my dad, the mynah is really tame and can sit on his arm and shoulder. My mom dots over the zebra dove and budgie and her duck.

Now my tiels are 8 years old.... the african grey is 10, the lovebirds are 9, the mynah is 5....

So next time you or your brother better find a the other half that likes pets as well, otherwise will face the fate like Michael and myself, got nagging from the other half, as they are not really into pets. My hubby already nagging me vmad.gif , now adding more birds into my pets collection.

My hubby nagging me too, saying the house is like a zoo now. But he wouldn't dare to control me, because I used my own money to buy my pets, didn't use any single cents from him. Anyway I'm the main bread winner for our home, so keeping pets are the only way I de-stress myself. If he were to do any harms on my pets, I would gone crazy and take revenge and probably will poison him eventually! Hahaha..I think he knows me well...better don't trigger my mental disorder syndrome!

I was in JB last year. I visited a pet shop. It has a few cockatoos, an African Grey and a blue Macaw. All the parrots were very tame. I was very fond of the Macaw. It was very playful and also a very good talker. It could say Gong Xi Fa Cai, Hello, Ni Hau Ma, Omi To Fo and many more. The Macaw always ask for a hand shake by lifting its foot and said 'shake hand'. Before I left the shop I bid farewell to the Macaw by saying bye bye and I was shocked that the Macaw waved one of its feet and replied 'bye bye'.

I nearly bought a Cockatoo which the owner offered me $2,500. But some how the wing was a bit cacat.
