You can go to this forum http://pet-cockatiel.com/Dboard/index.php  to look for a breeder.  Or post a wanted list there, sure got people offer you.

Somebody wanted to offer me a "jadi" Shama  with 7" tail at very reasonable price (below market price), because he (the owner) is not free to take care due to work commitment, he has 5 of them.  I could only take 1 from him. Tomorrow night  I will go and collect from him.  He was shocked to learn that I am a female that like song birds like Shama, Canary and Magpie.

You must teach me how you handfeed your cockatiels.... Do you?

I got a normal grey pair... quite useless in breeding coz they never feed their young properly, 3 times I tried and 3 times ended up with dying chicks. One I handfed but my homemade formula wasn't right.

Well, I was brought up very differently from young, my father used to catch insects like grasshopper, beetle, spider, cricket for me to keep as pet.

So I have no problem in handling insects and worms. I guess most girls didn't keep song bird as pet, not because they don't like, probably it is because they could not overcome the fear in handling insects and worms which is a must for feeding most song birds like Sharma and Magpie.

Here are my new Magpie pictures.

Definitely I want to give him a proper cage, but don't want to rush for it first, as now my house is shortage of storage space to keep unused cage.

Wow, you budgie is not afraid of the cat, and your cat won't attack the bird?

Erm.... I used some egg powder I got from Australia, mixed with water, jar babyfood and crushed pellets from my cockatiel mix. It was a desperate attempt to save a chick, which I raised till 2 weeks old... then I had to go away for a day so my bro help me jaga but it died pulak... really sad.

Now my female keeps popping eggs..... one egg every week! But there is no matings.... and I got no nest box so I have no idea why she keeps laying eggs.

I also got a pied white face female, thinking of breeding but then I scared tak jadi again....

okay, what i use is..i'll go Tesco and get a baby food called hartz baby food..theres afew variety of it..there's (red box labeling - plain rice, there's blue box labeling - rice and banana, and another one is yellow..which i cant remember the flavour..) the cost of each box in tesco is very cheap compared to other places..its only below rm 5 in tesco..the reason im using this "hartz" brand is becos, that is the only brand i find that is WITHOUT ANY MILK MIXTURE in it.. (birds cant digest well to milk and chocolate..so they'll die) ..you get that, and a bottle of "gerber" baby food..i usually get apple flavour..then mix them together..not to cair and not to pekat.. just nice as if u want to feed a baby..and also..the MOST IMPORTANT is NOT TOO HOT..test it on ur hand 1st..if its too hot, then ur chick will get "crop Burn" (where its crop will burn resulting from too hot food) and u might want to get a syringe(WITH OUT NEDDLE) the ones usually parents gives their small children syrup medicine..they are a few sizes..go to any pharmacy..it ranges from afew cents to a few ringgit..that doesnt matter..u get all the stuff above..then u're are ready. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Pied whiteface? wow thumbup.gif drool.gif rclxms.gif she's a beauty..

one question..do you remove the egg she pops? well, if you do this..u'll encourage her to pop more eggs..and ending up getting "egg Binding" egg bingding is a penyakit where the female lay too many eggs after one breeding season after another..and ending up lacks of calcium..where the egg in her tummy is too soft to even pass out..do provide them with alot of cuttlebone (tulang sotong) for calcium..(most bird shop sells them..tell me if u cant find them) when ur female lays eggs without mating is normal..every female will eventually lays eggs when she is mature.. just dont remove the eggs that she lays, eventually she''ll get bored and leave them..then only u remove them..

ps:go to www.birdforum.com.my theres alot things u could learn there.. just wanted to share.. and finally GOODLUCK! rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

I heard if you pair 1 male and 1 female Budgerigar together, if 1 of them die, the second 1 will die also.

Well..I heard of this from a friend of mine too, she has a pair of love bird. One died, eventually the other one refused to eat until died too. But I don't know the Budgies would or not. I also have heard from the Discovery Channel "amazing moment" that one Cockatoo owner died, and her birds also commit suicide. However my friend's father Cockatoo didn't commit suicide when her father passed away. Still living with the family, but not much attention given. Her Cockatoo is 60 years old. May be it depends on the personality of the birds too. Some are more emotional than the other.

yeap..actually, to me it does not matter is this ur 1st time or not..maybe thru experience wise..cos u might not know what to do if the bird is sick and all..my 1st bird is actually a cockatiel intead of a budgie..sammy why dont u get a cockatiel? i can say its the most friendly bird to me..in my experience..ive never fail to tame a cockatiel before..u could start on a young one too..
