QUOTE(gark @ Mar 5 2014, 10:21 AM) Insurance sector we must see the 'float' which is the premium received - future claims. This float is what drives the insurance business. Usually underwriting profits are more or less breakeven or have some small gain. It is the float money if they invest wisely is what generates revenue for the company. Obviously LPI is expert on this as it utilize public mutual to handle most of their investment. Uncle gark,Just think of float as interest free loans.. and you get the idea. Insurance how they make money u also expert.... Insurance usally take premoum, will move diversify the premium fund in different specific class aka risk class. This risk class alwasy associate with what Coverage benefit. Future will alocate to pay for claim. If those money certain year no claim incurred in the pool certain of periodn will turn to realized gain. |

Usually underwriting profits are more or less breakeven or have some small gain. It is the float money if they invest wisely is what generates revenue for the company. Not AIA..But AIG. We cant associate AIG bad reputation wit Local m'sia insurance.Obviously LPI is expert on this as it utilize public mutual to handle most of their investment. And some company is very bad at managing their float like MN*B for maximum gain. Berkshire Hattaways growth is due to their insurance float in which WB has expertly invested. AIA overinvested thier float into toxic products and almost bankrupted. Just think of float as interest free loans.. to be paid back later and you get the idea. But however these free money can help or destroy a company depending on how they invest it... Different country hv differrent governance Insurance sector. Like M'isa is govermance by BNM, so the money stick in Malaysia localy. There no related with AIA finainical the time wit parent AIG. Becoz the AIG business pratice make their financial bleeding as AIA has to be sold off to pay off the AIG Debt. There no shorcut way..AIG can take AIA fund to pay what AIG debt mess in Subprime Crisis. |

QUOTE(gark @ Mar 5 2014, 10:27 AM) Yes those realized gain is what you call underwriting profit. And the money from the pool awaiting for future claim is what you call 'float'. How a company use those money will make or break an insurance company. Insurane take time to gain realized gain. The money receive by insurance not automaticall channel to realized gain. Most will go to 'float' fund. here the simple example. http://money.howstuffworks.com/personal-fi...ce-company2.htm |

QUOTE(gark @ Mar 5 2014, 10:33 AM) AIA under Hong Kong govermance. If you look at AIA finanical report and M'sia Insurance report they use different pratice to calculate their Profit. Both money stuck at thier country govermance. Not easy to pull AIA Hong Kong back to AIG, require approval of Hong Kong Money Authority. M'sia under BNM. all their premium receive by customer report to BNM every year, and audit every time. What happen 2009 subprime crisis..is AIG underwrite the Lehman mini bond product the camelflage their housing loan rating. When borrower cant pay the money, AIG has to cover the losses for the BANK. |

QUOTE(gark @ Mar 5 2014, 11:20 AM) No.. it is just that MN*B is investing 98% of thier float into malaysian government bonds earning a pittance, so they are more conservative. EPF invest only 60% the rest in stocks... Oic.what ur meaning...then do u aware most insurance has sub their premium to MN*B as M'isa Leading reinsurance company...convervative didnt mean making loss..Most important more the MN*B expand the reInsurance company oversea.
