Regards there,

here's a site I would like to invite you to give comment and opinion into :

Currently (been months), i'm working on maintaining this community centre for Malaysia's art & culture event. From what you can see at the moment, it is at it's fetus phase, which there will be a major revamp from the current layout and content, but the important content will remain intact. Mainly looking in converting the site to xhtml and css driven and encourages more user friendliness in submitting content

Of course, on a longer term we're looking in help to promote more local art, design & culture event, instead of competing, we'll act as another base for competition submissions, events happenings, and also, interviews on designers and monthly thoughts/practices reflected to the local design industry.

For LYP, I've guessed it's also time to clear the doubt between art & design, and which so far imo, design been really underappreciated-to-the-max and always been categorized as something inefficient, wasting time and artsy, abstract. But there are sometimes I'm relieved there are still small amount of people appreciating good design does help to generate better and more efficient flow of life, in work and other place.

So basically the sites would not only help existing designer, or young one, but as well educating the upcoming and aspiring to be one in the future. At least, a shelter to look into. But nevertheless, i'm here to look forward into your inputs and constructive criticism, arguments and opinions, it'll help the site to grow. biggrin.gif. And oh yes, if you decide to contribute content to us, we'll have you as contributors biggrin.gif.

Anyway, before i start with the post, let me bow and say thanks in advance.

If you're going to revamp, I wouldn't mind lending a hand in the planning phase of the project. From what I see like Digital Malaya, Doxob and other already existing arts & culture websites in Malaysia, this project has potential but the reason I see the mentioned having failed is because not only is their support non-existent through the whole project but it's because our online prescence is wrong.

For instance, DE now looks like a wannabe international arts & culture scene tryin to imitate the look & feel of other international websites. This just feels almost like DM and Doxob.

I say DE should be the different one. It should concentrate more of local arts & culture from a serious view with little additions of the international scene. The design doesn't have to be artsy fartsy but to the point and hit people in the head regarding the scene in Malaysia.

In other words, we need a website for an awareness drive. We need an online prescence that would exceed even the Malaysia government's arts & culture website. We need a website that can and will speak for the generation of digital and traditional media.

We need design to be born and live in Malaysia!

notworthy.gif notworthy.gif wow...

btw, it does look "funny", the colour doesn't really match.
It just doesn't looks right (i am no design expert or what-so-ever, just a normal Internet user)

The grass with the White background doesn't go with the white table beside it.
I can see green colour below the black table at the left hand side. I can see grass in between of the two column at the bottom.

regards etsuko & ed0gawa, glad to hear from you there!

yeah i agree to an extend on what the site is currently potraying, because it was an old 'almost abandoned' project which my boss wants me to take it up and run it back again, so i've not going to touch on the design since i'm not sure if the 'big boss' will like it if i change it without having much here and there solid and concrete.

We need a website that can and will speak for the generation of digital and traditional media.
I strongly agree with this plus with my heads, toes and legs. This is what I see if lacking and what is why i'm taking up the project from scratch again. And you can even see clearly there are so many times controversial issue are put to case-close after only 1 - 3 replied posted in a thread, which doesn't seem to be really helping us to open up. I guess this is what really needs a re-thinking.

Been collecting more feedbacks to get things going, will post a bit of the development details, and to have things running in the way that is different from what doxob and dm is running, not to be another new-design-wannabe-kid-on-the-block, but focussing on what it can help to deliver really good resource, content and what-yes-what-not for malaysian design scene. Because from what I can observe, I know at the long run, i hope it will be one thing that change the mindset of all that we can see now which is scattered..

But for the moment, we help local art & design individual to rediscover and to create a presence for them, promoting events and encouraging participation in events. What I have in mind are a centralized design agency, designer and developer listing at the very least.

So at the moment I'm really looking for a long-term good-for-everyone revamp and be really direct in throwing ideas and participate through the DE's morphing process. I guess it's best to have action than just the talking, keep the thoughts pouring in biggrin.gif.

You can't call it a revamp if you're afraid the 'big boss' will screw you later. LoL!

I'd rather register myself a new package, new domain and have things done our way. tongue.gif

Anyway, looking forward of hearing more about this thing.

You need a community. With a decent skin, at least. (/sarcasm)
For now, try to get the main page as arranged as possible, and evolve the site from a firm base.

hi there everyone,

its been really a while since then (really a while hahaha half a year) of the last post and update of the site
now we're running on a internal testing to get feedback and participation, but of course, the usual features will still remain intact.

so what's up and in?

1. news - you can get latest info on design/art activity around msia
2. events/deadlines - do let us knoe if u have any info on latest contest
3. direcotry - join in if you're a designer/developer from msia
4. voices - first article/interview coming up

but that's all for now, but i guess there'll be sides that will break when you visit the site, let us knoe if u spot some.

I think the header is a little..huge. tongue.gif

Tags link color could use some darkening. The uber light grey can't be seen.

Span the bottom footer across and not start from the mid column.

What is a person subscribing to?

Overall, it looks alright and I hope the best for DE. smile.gif

cheers.
