Are there any bikes available for rent? With full guarantee of course.

Would like to try out for a week before committing resources to buy a good bike.

Also are foldies allowed onto the LRT and Monorail? Thanks!

Foldies are allowed only during non peak hours 9am-5pm
Full day for off peak / non working day. There's a special lane that is wider easier for your bike to get in.
Also bag ur foldie,my first time bringing my foldie on last sunday Car Free day. sweat.gif

Thanks for the reply. Shucks, I was thinking of bagging it and carrying onto the lrt during peak hour. Since it's not allowed there's probably not much incentive for me to get one.

Hmm, if people can carry large luggage or guitar onto the lrt, what's the maximum dimensions of a folded bike I should be looking at I'm adamant on bringing one onto the lrt?

Checked out the tern, it's about 15 inch thick, and 25 inch wide when folded.

i think as long as u fold ur bike in the LRT station, that shoud be okay ler... bike shud be folded before getting into the entry station there...   hmm.gif

Yep, got the idea. But just worried that the 'supersized' bag will be disallowed coz it's obvious that it's most likely a foldie within.

Okay, more importantly, it looks ugly tongue.gif

I've got the idea of having it in a backpack instead of the common carry-on bag type, please see the end of my message.

u might be able to sneak in with bike if ur bike is small enuff, n concealed nicely...

dont' go fold the bike in front of the gate.. the guard can see ma...

a b or a bike smaller than a B can hide very well.....  biggrin.gif

Don't get what you mean a b or a bike a B rclxub.gif

A lot of ppl bring foldable bike on train but dun carry it around in the LRT station. Just fold and wheel it and push it like a trolley can.

Carry 10 to 12 kg of bike in a bag is too much!
KLCC or Masjid Jamek LRT, we have just wheel it without bag but make sure it is folded.
*
Seems like bagged or not, it's fine during non-peak hours. Those that can't carry onto the train are most likely during peak hours.

The reason for my question is to find out if it is feasible to "sneak" one in during peak hours via bagging.

I think 12 kg is still fine, especially if 'backpack style'. The common 'carry-on' bag style might be too cumbersome.

Guys, which brings me to my next question.....

--------------------

I think a solution would be to backpack the folded bicycle.

A 12 kg bike bagged into a carry-on is slightly troublesome, but manageable (quite similar to your regular travel bags), but on a backpack it's very portable and ergonomic. Anyone knows where to get such a backpack? Been googling with no luck!

Update: I found it!!!! Dimensions customized for a folding bike, with straps too!

Gosh the converted price is more than RM300 excluding shipping. Do you guys know where to get something like this in KL at a reasonable price?

this is how mrs samo carried her foldie.
i carried mine similarly.

alternatively, if you have a long strap bag like this one, strap it across your shoulder and chest for better stability.

I've thought of these, as they're sold on the Tern / Dahon sites I browsed through earlier. But I find them too bulky, would prefer a backpack for more convenience and ergonomics, and also for visual appeal. Wondering if you know where I can search for such foldie-sized backpacks? Just like this? http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_...&product_id=113 I would have this particular one imported but it's just too exorbitantly priced after currency conversion. If I can't find, then yes obviously I'll have to settle for the carry-ons as you posted.

Oh?  What foldie you have that cannot be wheeled in folded position?

I have a few foldies and all I have taken on LRT during Rush hour and I don't carry them, I just roll them on the floor either on one wheel or two.

I made sure that it can roll better without the fold coming apart and also that I can just hold the bike with one hand and roll it.  The other hand is free to carry anything else.
*
Oh that's great news. Which station do you board, and around what time?

He wana take during peak / rush hours...
The rules states tht u kenot.
So it all depends on the jaga..
So the smaller the bike the easier to conceal it..

Yeap that's what I meant. Peace of mind. But as budgee mentioned above it doesn't seem to be a problem.

After work about 6:20 pm, I have wheeled my bike into Masjid Jamek or KLCC LRT.

Mornings, at  about 8:45 am, I have my bike  in at Taman Jaya, Asia Jaya or Paramount LRT to go to Masjid Jamek or KLCC LRT.
*
Hmm, 8.45 am is not really a peak hour, the peak of the crowd at approx. 8.10 a.m. to 8.40 a.m. has receded.

Official non-peak hours for folding bikes, as per news articles are: 9am to 4pm on working days; and after 7.30pm onwards.

I come from the other end of the line you take, and it's often really packed between 8.00 to 8.30 a.m., frequently almost till the brim.

Perhaps that's why you're allowed to bring it on.

A bit late today, got to LRT about 9:10am Asia Jaya LRT, reach KLCC about 9:45 ..

Bike folded and rolling through the ticketing gates.  Its slim enough to get through.

I check in at 9, and gotta take the LRT latest by 8.20 a.m. That's the super peak period, don't think an unbagged bike will be allowed tongue.gif
