hahaha

We usually have the pepper spray handy when riding on new route and/alone.

QUOTE(jackhammer84 @ May 14 2014, 04:33 PM)
Lol, might as well equip my bike wheels with side-slicing blades, batman-style.

I guess the idea is, if someone wants to rob me, then bo pian la. but just don't want to make it too obvious like "hey look at me! i look like i have something valuable becoz of this big bag i have!". or don't want to have something that is an open invitation to grab and pull, like a sling bag over my shoulder.
So i guess i'll probably go with a waist pouch small enough to keep under my shirt, or a small pouch to attach at the folding hinge, like outdoorexplorer mentioned, coz technically it'll be between my legs when I ride.

If cycling have to pay tax, I will have to affix some dynamos and generate power to resell back to TNB.

All new bikes needs to break in period and tuning to be done. No bikes ever rolled out from LBS in perfect shape.

QUOTE(terryble @ May 19 2014, 12:13 PM)
What?? Albert is not even a staff there?
he has been showing me around for more than an hour and diligently explain every details of each bike to me and my friend came across...and let us test all the brommies they have...

By the way...i have successfully completed my first ride at Taman Pertanian, a really great ride with the D8 i must say~~

But i do notices a few problem..not sure if it is common with new bikes~~hope the experts here can help explain a bit..

1) when lightly pulling the front breaks...there are some sharp metallic friction sound coming from the front...(none for the back...tested multiple times), this sounds goes away when i pull the breaks hard....

2) the gear shifting are great and smooth~~even newbie like me has no problem with it.....BUT....i notice upon shifting to gear 5, 6 ,7 (no chance to try 8th gear yet) the chain (or something from below)  produce a squeaky sound at one point...like every cycle it squeaks once...none of the sound appear on lower gears...

3) i am not sure if this is linked to problem no.2...when pushing the bike slowly consistently...there is also a squeaky sound coming from the front...

Hope you guys could feedback...probably sending it back to Van's for a service/tuning tomorrow evening..

Hi guys, I just bought the dahon vigor p9 ...stiff right ..very responsive frame ..however going over bumps can be quite jarring painful....

is there a carbon fork for dahon. I know dahon used to make Mu Ex forks ..can that be fitted.

or any suspension fork out there
*
Not sure whether the Fork from Giant Halfway can be used?

Buy a good one and you'll enjoy the ride, and it will be much easier to sell if you want to later.  Buy a cheap one, you may not enjoy the ride and no demand when you want to sell.  Only buy a cheap one if you don intend to sell and you only want to ride once in a while maybe.....

I once bought an Aleoca foldie for $300 thinking it will be fun, etc etc.  Impossible to cover decent distant, can't go up inclines, I couldn't even sell for $80.  Someone offered me $20!  I decided to give to my friend's kid.

You are on the right track.  Just don't go for the 7 speed ones.  They are cheap even for Dahon and Tern because they have the cheap gears and can't upgrade.

buy brompton can easily resell .... hehehe kidding but serious though.

We have our 6 speeds folding bikes with the following gear inches and range:

Setup 1: 33.1 - 100.1 GPI with 302% range
Setup 2: 35.8 - 108.1 GPI with 302% range

Honestly for folding bikes i don't think there's much use for 3 chainrings at the front. 3 chain rings would be something like 24T smallest? I have 24-34-44T on my 26" foldie and I have never even used the smallest one before, middle chainring 34 with rear cog 32T is already super light and I've used that only a handful of times at extreme hills like Bukit Cahaya.

With a 20" wheel and 24T front chainring you'll pedal like mad but the bike will hardly move, if that's the case you're probably better off getting down the bike n push

Get something with 2 chainring max is enough. If u're ok with 1 chainring even better, less weight and less complications

302% range is quite decent, but having only 6 gears mean there is a big jump between gears, so harder to find the right gear to keep momentum going.

So far we are having great fun with the setups. May consider a 9 speed option but the upgrades gonna burn a big hole in our cycling pant's pocket.

Cool. Thanks. Looks like I am already in most of these groups, except Malaysian Foldies where I just quit this group. Didn't like their style. They (even the admin) just like to insult and ridicule for no reason. Using "that fella" and "need to wear specks" although what I shared was correct and still insult me, even after knowing that I was right.....I just find that to be ridiculous.

They were offended with my insult after that, saying that I have to respect the elderly, but they don't realise that :
1) Respect comes with wisdom, not age.
2) There is no such thing as bigger insult or smaller insult. An insult is an insult. So if you want to insult me, you must be ready to accept the consequences, which will normally be greater than what you've given.

They were childish. So I decided to quit from there.

Well, thanks again. Might join Vans Urban Bicycle ride. That seems to be the nearest to me (and also car free morning which is every first Sunday of the month)
