Sorry, I still vouch for slaine and Lemrina. I think both should be an interesting character. Sad but true, I believe slaine will die in the end.

The orbital knights were never granted aldnoah's power. The emperor was the initial person whom discovered the ancient technology. He activates the technology and the drive powers itself. The knights with their status, uses the advance technology to overwhelm the terrans. question now is, what is the aldnoah drive? why did the ancient civilization went extinct in mars?

Probably the wind refers to gravitational force greated by the asteroid belt. after all, slaines unit moves like a wind.

i believe the emperor discovered the drive but never fully utilizes its potential. probably, he and his bloodline knows how it's activated. Slaine's dad was the engineer which make full use of the aldnoah system and converts its ability into a war machine. Probably that's the reason why slaine is being kept alive and honor him refuge. I don't think each drive is limited to a single knight. It can register to one. I believe it's powered all the time, because on one of the episode, we saw when a knight dies, its fortress and it's mech powers down.
