Motorola Penang is NOT dealing with semicon. Ask your girlfriend about it. tongue.gif

Agilent Penang is mainly doing test and measurement.

I believe Motorola is not taking fresh grad now. They have been hiring fresh grads for the past few months.

Agilent, is taking lot of fresh grads. ME grads are welcomed. And, CGPA of 2nd class upper is indeed above average. Many of the fresh grads there are 2nd lower.

Thread Starter, before you going out to hunt for a job, do you know what semicon industy is ? Try Freescale and Avago. :-)

I think CGPA of 3.4 is good enough to get you a job. Pls try process or product engineers positions. By the way, you are from which University ?

Yeah, you're right. Most of the companies like Agilent and Motorola are looking for experience engineers now.

Juz a word of advice here. I'm from Mech Eng background too. It's not adviseable to get involved in semicon industries. Try applying for automobile, power generation or manufacturing based industry. It's a more stable industry.Besides, ur able to learn more from those areas, meaning, technical aspects related to the 'real' mechanical stuffs. Unlike semicon, it's a foot loose industry, meaning, those companies will juz pack n shift to a cheaper labor power country anytime. Also, chances of getting into semicons, are rather slim relatively. There are not much aspects to learn there, product packaging, air cond maintenance, tooling.

I have several colleagues from Mechanical background. They are working in Automation department, which is considered a supporting group in semicon company.

Mech can work in semicon area lah, as a design engineer, with autocad lah of course...not the ic designer, dun mix up. Besides that, u can also be a researcher if the organization do has this department, aim for micoelectronics and mechanical system (MEMS).

programming requires logical thinking, meaning u can visualize the flow of ur program in ur mind. Sometimes u need maths for ur programming when u need to do a system for cyber cafe or fast food outlets. Programming needs to do a lot of counters, case that need maths also......but not as much as in engineering lah
