These days we hear of so many robbery case where the robbers will gain entrance of the main house in the middle of the night, and proceed to kick down the bedroom door swiftly, the next thing we know.. we already have a parang pointed at us when we wake up.

So, I'm embarking on a project to replace all my bedroom doors with a more robust/security door, with say top/middle/bottom bolts, and maybe 2~3 bolts each location. Surely it will be reinforced with metal sheet or internal metal frame etc.

Does anyone have any ideas/proposal/suggestion on this? Even pointing towards a good supplier would be of great help.

Attached some samples of security doors.

being the main entrance is the purpose of these door. already come with a peep hole.

more suitable for condo ... since other landed would be much easier to go after your window than your door.
*
Bro I disagree... cause given time no matter how secure your maindoor is.. the thief/robbers will find a way in. Hence I rather install it for my bedrooms... any attempt to bypass our bedroom door would alert us and we have the extra 15min to react and take appropriate actions while they attempt to break it down.

If the thieves want to help themselves to whatever I have downstairs/living room/kitchen etc... pls go ahead... the safety of my family is more important then these material things.

You are over-doing it..
Even if you fix bomb-proof door, there will be other ways to enter your house; windows, back door, roof, etc.
Thieves always have easier options.

Robust grille is still the best.

Hahha bro... u didnt read what I posted right?

I dont care about thieves helping themselves to whatever I have in the house... I just want to protect my BEDroom. I dont want to suddenly wake up with a parang at my neck.

Than you need to protect your roofing (assuming you are living in double storied house)

Not sure of the door you posted was it tested / rated in fire safety. If its not fire rated, you risk yourself if the house on fire, and metal expand and may cause the door to jam.
*
I think you misconstrued what fire rating means. Its more to do with how long the door can withstand a fire situation. The problem of metal expanding and jamming the door usually is not an issue, its more to do with the hinges. Usualyl these doors use steel bearing-type hinges since if we use non-ferrous metals its more affected by temperature and risk dislocating the door during a fire.

When a door is fire rated, meaning is being tested. I am not metal expert, I am highlighting the risk of the door may be jammed due to expansion which I had experience due to bad installation, and this maybe a risk.

Back to installing such door, you need to remove the current door and frame and is not a small jobs. Usually security door are installed during renovation not after.

Another method you can use is replace the current hollow door with solid wood door, and inside the room you put a horizontal bar lock inside (Door Reinforcement Bar).

It depends on how the frame or the door was done in the first place, usually you do have to hack the wall, reinstall a metal frame (comes with the door) etc. Its not a small job, but a small price to pay for the safety of my family. However, I currently alrdy have metal frame so its not that bad.. some tinkering and it works.

As for horizontal reinforcement... yes my ID suggested it... but it is also the ugliest thing ever... tongue.gif

Maindoor.. dun need over do it.. cause they can just as easily go in thru window etc... and they have time... to slowly cut/etc to get in

this may work if everyone sleeps in one bedroom otherwise others might be held hostage to force you to open up

surely you already have an alarm as first defence?

I'm doing it for every bedroom...

QUOTE(sayo @ Feb 14 2014, 11:24 PM)
this is a very good idea...

to eliminate advantage of "surprise, speed and violence of action" of criminals when home invasion occur. I m guessing this is a concept of a safe room? togethr with alarms and CCTV could be a good combination..maybe some weapons inside as well...do or die...since our crime these days really bad.

do share if you find a good source for the security door...thinking of dong same thing.
*
Well... I do have weapons in the room.. but I don't intend to use it... all the bedroom's window grill can be unlocked, if I get invaded, its going to be call the police/guard (I live in a gated community with guard house about 100m away and nearest police pondok is about 1.5km away), and climb out the window as a last resort.

Will continue to post here with any good door quotes/cost.

Bro you are on the right track on putting the best to your bedroom. But bedroom and main entrance should have the equal priority. Because thief and robbers also come in during daytime. Imagine break the main door, your family in living room! No time to run to bedroom...

Having alarm and CCTV is good. But that is not first defense. Your neighbour probably think it is a false trigger, and some don't even cares! MYOB! As for CCTV, ya probably a police or your family member might look at it after the thief get satisfied from your home.

Install a good solid door/ security metal door if got budget, most important find a professional locksmith to change the locks, reinforce the door. Last step very very important.

Stay safe and alive,

Main door 2 layer. Metal drill door on the outside which is permanently locked. Wooden reinforced door second layer which is usually open during day time.

Ppl do not kick down a metal grill door within 15 seconds while there are occupants in the living room. More then ample warning to lock the wooden door once again. And also to call for security and police etc. I happen to stay 120M from the Guard house and 1.3km from the Police station.

As for all my bedroom doors... I went with a solid wooden door, reinforced metal frame and a double locking 5 point Iseo lockset.
