May be you should install ME first, then XP?
Or use boot manager software, create 2 partitions |

If your PC is powerful enough, maybe you can try VMWare?

u can edit the boot.ini file and add the ME in XP's MBR.
go to cmd and type bootcfg copy xp's boot info and replace the necessary parts such as path, partition and whatnot. |

QUOTE(AsenDURE @ Jul 15 2006, 12:38 AM) i see no stupidity in asking those questionsMost of the time, you install the older OS 1st, since the newr OS will recognise the older OS and do the necessary to allow yuo to multi-boot if yuo wished so |

QUOTE(knight @ Jul 15 2006, 08:22 PM) ohh..i'm using FAT32...does it make any difference for my case?? Well Win98/ME doesn't recognize NTFS filesystem but since you're on FAT32 so it doesn't matter. I also presume that you're installing both OS on different partitions? WinME on C:\ and WinXP on D:\ (or vice versa - depending on which you install first).WinME should be installed first and WinXP second as lucifah pointed out and there shouldn't be a problem as the WinXP setup will recognize the currently installed ME and place it as a selection in the XP bootloader - boot.ini. if you however install 98/ME second then you need to ensure that you have DEBUG.EXE in your startup disk. on a 98 startup disk, created from add/remove programs, its in the EBD.CAB file on the startup disk and for one created from FAT32EBD.EXE its on the floppy. 1. proceed with a normal install but when prompted for the install location, you'll see C:\Windows.000. choose other directory and change this to the drive you wish to install WinME to and name the folder Windows (or something else if you prefer). complete the WinME install and allow it to boot into WinME. 2. now to repair winXP boot loader. create a notepad file with the following entries. CODE L 100 2 0 1 N C:\BOOTSECT.DOS R BX 0 R CX 200 W Q and save the file to the Win98 startup disk as READ.SCR. boot with the Win98 startup disk and at the A: prompt type DEBUG <READ.SCR. what this does is create the BOOTSECT.DOS file needed to boot WinME. you may need to use ATTRIB C:\BOOTSECT.DOS -S -H -R command if BOOTSECT.DOS already exists and you get an error when trying to recreate it. 3. now you need to boot from WinXP CD and get into the recovery console. when presented with a choice of installing or repairing an existing installation, choose repair. you'll be asked which XP installation you want to log into. enter 1. unless you installed more than 1 XP ) and enter the administrator password. at the C:\Windows prompt, type FIXBOOT. confirm and reboot. |

aiyah, how many times you format your pc oredi? lol. you'll blow your hard drive liddat.
here's a suggestion. use a thir party software. acronis disk director's got the OS selector thing going on. It replaces window's MBR. I used it and it works. check the thing out. |
