Wanna ask if a degree in education is needed if i have interest in being a lecturer (possibly pre-uni or bachelor's).

A degree and masters in sciences is enough or I must have a PhD or any education degree?

Go for a Science - related degree/masters which doesn't only allow you to teach biology. If it's too narrow, you may have problem getting a job in the future. Science related courses are limited here in Malaysia.

Degree in Education - you'll most likely be teaching in School of Education

ps: An ex lecturer with a MSc in Health Sciences (infectious diseases)

What's the difference between both? I'm planning to go into B.Sc. Medical Biotech, then Masters of Biosciences Enterprise. is this ok? or a second Masters is needed to get above the rest? PhD takes longer...is it worth the extra 2 years?

To be honest, if you wanna teach beyond Biology, having a Masters itself will not take you far as majority of the university in Malaysia only takes in those with PhD to teach Degree students. If it's only Foundation/A-level programs, then yeah, it will be suffice. But then again, bear in mind that you won't be paid much for it (teaching lower level of education).

The question now is, how far do you want to go? Are you willing to sacrifice your time? For our field (science), the ideal would be to obtain a PhD.

Approximate time:

-Bachelor : 3 years
-Masters : 1.5 - 2 years
- PhD : min 3 years

For degree in Education (majoring in Science), I dont think so you can teach Foundation in Science leading to Medical/Pharmacy/Biomedical pathway. Form 6? Yeah most likely.

If so, can I take a PhD in a field completely different from what I'm studying? I got interest to do a research plan to seems not 100% bio-related. sweat.gif I don't feel like taking Education degree, tbh. I love biology too much to go into Education. Besides, I cannot tahan the generation after my Generation Z punya shakehead.gif
But said Bachelor's as mentioned by me ealier will suffice, right? Really only that can help? sweat.gif

Yes you can take a completely different PhD. But by doing so, it may or may not affect your future employment as universities still prefer to take in those in the same pathway due to MQA requirement. When the day arrived, you just need to work something somewhere out to tackle this. I myself is facing this dilemma now.

What do you mean by you cannot tahan the generation after Z?

If you are sure this is your path- to teach biology related subjects, I guess taking those two mentioned by you is a good start.

very sure. at least i can score in that field of bio. Was thinking at least a slightly related PhD can broaden my chances.
After my generation punya, average kids are alredi very rowdy, hamsap and very daring without considering the actions. i have heard how rowdy these new batch are in schools. damn, if they reach college and mess it up..... mad.gif

Then it's up to you how to tackle these type of students. That's why teaching is not easy if you do it for the sake of money/merely treating it as a job rather than your career + passionate about it. You will give up fast.

Good luck!

Shouldn't you factor in the time for pending viva in Master and Doctorate? sweat.gif
*
Oh yeah. The one I mentioned is the approximate duration of the program itself because you still able to look for a job while pending for viva.

actually i want the job for benefits only. they used to have free camps at MCKL, all lecturers pegi for syok and fun. and friendly oso. students oso very nice biggrin.gif NOT LIKE new batch. -,-
until you know i wanna replace him ohmy.gif

Hmm... no offence but kinda lame excuse for wanting to be a lecturer. You sounded like one of them imho. Still with childish kinda mentality. If the type of students influence your decision rather than you wanting to educate these kids and make them a better person, sorry to say, you are not fit to be an educator.
