Bayern hit with partial stadium ban

UEFA has hit Bayern Munich with a partial closure of the Allianz Arena for the upcoming Champions League clash against Manchester United after a homophobic banner was shown by supporters during the game against Arsenal.

• Schaaf: Bayern leave it late

During the 1-1 last-16 second-leg draw at home to the Gunners on March 11, Bayern supporters were seen to be holding a sign reading “Gay Gunners,” with a picture poking fun at Mesut Ozil alongside it.

UEFA said at the time that it had opened disciplinary proceedings against the European champions for the banner, as well as for another sign referencing the campaign to have Kosovo recognised as an official country.

And European football’s governing body has now confirmed that as a punishment, Bayern will have part of their stadium closed for the quarterfinal second leg against United on April 9, as well as being fined 10,000 euros.

A statement on UEFA’s official website read: “Discriminatory behaviour of Bayern supporters (Article 14 UEFA Disciplinary Regulations) and the displaying of an illicit banner (Article 16(2e) DR).

"The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has decided: To order the partial closure of the Fussball Arena Muenchen [Allianz Arena]. In particular, the closure of sector 124 for Bayern's next UEFA competition home match, namely their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Manchester United FC on April 9; To fine the German club 10,000 euros for the displaying of an illicit banner."

Moyes: City at the level we aspire to

Manchester United manager David Moyes said rivals City are "at the sort of level we are aspiring to" after Manuel Pellegrini's men ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford.

• Brewin: Blue day at Old Trafford

• Okwonga: Derby disappointment

• Palmer: Three Things

City head back across Manchester with all three points after seeing off their fiercest foes with remarkable ease -- United's second successive 3-0 home defeat in the Premier League after their loss to Liverpool.

And the performance left Moyes struggling to contain his admiration.

He is quoted by the Mirror as saying: "We have played a very good side, playing at the sort of level we are aspiring to. We need to come up a couple of levels ourselves because at the moment we are not there."

He added: "We didn't start the game well. They were very good but we grew into the game and up into the second goal we had a fighting chance. But we weren't good enough in the end."

The night could have been even worse after Marouane Fellaini was perhaps fortunate not to see red after appearing to throw an elbow at Pablo Zabaleta.

Moyes said: "My first feeling was that Fellaini's yellow card of a foul on Pablo Zabaleta wasn't even a free-kick, but I genuinely haven't seen it again and people have said to me that it was worse than that."

Hoping that he will stay with us. Unless we bought a new striker this summer, for sure he will be the one let go considering that Welbeck is love by the manager.

How come Kagawa that responsible for the two goals is the one subbed out? I cannot brain unless for UCL game this coming week.

How Young play the whole game but could not have a single contribution compared to Kagawa and Januzaj. I also cannot brain why he kept playing.
